interview #39 @K-L-Lord
1. How would you celebrate a publishing deal?
After the initial shock had kicked in, I would celebrate with my kids. We'd do something together as a family.
2. What inspired you to write?
Ever since I was little girl, I loved to read. The books I grew up reading were: The Chronicles of Narnia, Alice through the looking glass and The Lord of the rings. I have always been imaginative and tended to daydream a lot. Though sometimes I got into trouble at school because it looked as though I wasn't listening. But it was through reading books like these that inspired me to invent my own world and turn my ideas into stories.
3. What's your piece of advice for a newcomer?
Don't be discouraged from negative feedback. You'll improve all the time and even the most famous writers still feel they can improve. Don't give up on a story through lack of reads. See the story through to the end, whether you're happy with it or not, you can always edit it later.
A good piece of writing advice is to decide the beginning and end first. For everything you want to see happen throughout the story, compile a list: set goals/obstacles for your character, how he/she develops throughout the story. That way you're less likely to suffer from writers block or run out of ideas.
4. What's your favorite book?
My favorite book of all time is Great Expectations by Charles Dickins. It's a book that has you rooting for the main character, Pip, from the very beginning. I love the plot twists, the roller coaster of emotions you get when reading. It's a classic book that I still love to this day.
5. What's your favorite holiday and why?
My favorite holiday would have to be Halloween. My youngest son was born on Halloween, so I tend to go all out and make it extra special. I decorate my house with spooky decorations and turn my garden into a graveyard. We carve pumpkins at Chirk Castle and bring them home to add to the decor. My house is the main stop for all nearby children to call in for trick or treat and the parents usually take pictures outside. When I do something, I go all out. It's all or nothing with me.
6. If you could gain advice from your favorite author, who would you choose and what would you ask?
I would choose J.R.R Tolkien. I would really want to pick that magnificent brain of his and bombard him with questions, but the one thing I'm most intrigued about is...how did he invent the different languages he used in his works? There was Elvish, the black speech of Mordor, Orkish, Entish, Dwarvish.... The man was a genius who went beyond the boundaries of imagination. I would love to know his secrets.
7. If you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
I would choose international model, Lucas Garcez. Yes, he's one of my muses for a story, but... We have so much in in common, it's weird. Like he's the male version of me! We would go hiking somewhere remote, South of the equator. Discover hidden wonders of the world and photograph them for memories. Cook on an open fire and camp under the stars, talking about dreams, aspirations and life. He's loves nature, animals and simplicity like I do. A genuinely good, decent person and very polite when we spoke through direct messaging on Instagram.
8. What's your dream vacation?
My dream vacation would be to travel the world, live like a local, eat like a local and fully appreciate all the wonders each place has to offer. Everything is beautiful in simplicity.
9. What's a song you enjoy?
With or without you by U2. It's a beautiful song.
10. What's your favorite thing about Wattpad?
It's a welcoming platform where anyone can have a go at writing. Experienced or inexperienced, it doesn't matter. It's not as intimidating as some of the other writing platforms out there. Amateur writers can grow and learn on wattpad. Writers do reach out to other writers offering encouragement and support. You don't see much of that elsewhere.
11. Are you still surprised when you gain a new vote, follow or comment?
All the time. I get overwhelmed by some of the messages readers send me, telling me how much they love my stories. I really appreciate that they've taken the time from their busy lives just to message me. It's the little things that count too. Being told I've inspired someone to write. I wish I could bottle that feeling, I honestly do. Every message I get, I reply to. I wouldn't not. I've gotten to know some of my readers and fellow authors as friends.
Request time!
Little Ruby Red.
It's in the werewolf genre and suitable for all ages. It's much more than a love story. My characters are relatable and realistic. There's drama, action, twists, tender moments and of course, it wouldn't be one of my stories without the right amount of humor thrown into the mix. Just like my favorite book that I mentioned earlier, I wanted to give my readers an epic romance with a roller coaster of emotions and have them rooting for the characters, fully engrossed until the very last sentence.
