interview #18 @AmazingGraceless

1 what inspired you to write?

I was in love with fairytales as a child but had my own ideas about what wouldhappen next. I liked to play out those ideas with my dolls. I then would writeand plan out these adventures my dolls would act out. The only thing that'sdifferent now, I suppose, is I don't play it out with my dolls (that often).

2 what is one Wattpad goal?

One Wattpad goal I have is to eventually become a member of the Wattpad Paidprogram, or the Wattpad Stars. Either way, I'd love to reach monetization so Ican do this full-time.

3 who is your favorite author?

My favorite author overall I think would have to be Brandon Mull. I love hisunique storytelling and how intriguing his characters are. I also really likeCassandra Clare's work, particularly "The Dark Artifices" trilogy.

4 Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?

I am absolutely still surprised and delighted to get a read, even, much less avote, follow, or comment! I appreciate you guys so much at the beginning of mywriting journey!

5 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?

i think for favorite celebrity. . . Ooh, that's tough. At the end of the day, I think goingto a cat cafe with Emilia Clarke would be so much fun! She's got such aninvigorating personality, and I get the idea she would be very interesting totalk to.

6 what's your favorite snack?

Popcorn. Aka, the best substance known to man.

7 what's your schedule regarding your writing?

It depends on my muse. Right now, given I have other, more pressing real lifeobligations, I write when I can. But I do try to write every single day.

8 what's a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?

While there are a great many songs I enjoy, I think my favorite would have to be"Hotel California" by the Eagles. It's a classic, but there's a reason why it'sone of the best songs of all time.

9 what's a good piece of advice for a newcomer?

My advice to newcomers is to write fanfiction first. I did that (on a differentwebsite, FFNet, and still do update it) and it's really helpful for learningthings like internet etiquette, how to promote yourself, and how to write andworld build in a safe and encouraging environment.

10 how would you celebrate a publishing deal?

I would first pinch myself, because I'd want to make sure that it wasn't a dream. Then I think I'd take my family out to my favorite pizza parlor, since they'dwant to celebrate with me. I'd probably buy myself something small as a reward, like a plushie or a new dress from Hot Topic. Then I'd put any earnings intosavings, because I'm boringly practical like that.

11 what's the best way to handle a bully?

It's funny you asked about that, because I've been through a few. Here's the thing—tell an adult. Yes, they can't stop it, but they can help you avoid the otherperson. Some adults will be jerks, sotell one that you trust. If you are an adult and the other person is botheringyou? Work on avoiding them. It won't make them stop but it puts them out ofyour life and that's really the goal here.

Request time

A book I'm currently working on is The Moonrise Institute. The Moonrise Institute is the story of Leila Halcyon, a half-vampire girl who is taken to a school for vampires in Transylvania County, North Carolina. In her attempts to escape the titular school, she discovers notes foretelling a cure for vampirism and the remainders of a ghost story telling the tragedy behind the school's wicked headmistress.

It's a dark, haunting story, with a return to gothic vampires. But there's also an interesting twist on ghosts and vampire lore, as well as the rooting of the setting in the American South. If you want a story of human determination, the power of kindness, and the spell our history holds on us, then this book is for you.
