interview #39 @MAndALaptop
1 what's the best way to handle a bully?
Personally, I've always turned to a good friend / group of friends that keep me grounded. No matter what, there will always be people that dislike you or try to discourage you. It's important to remember that you and your life goals are far above them. And if it's potentially dangerous comments or threats, turn to a trusted adult.
2 what's a good piece of advice for a newcomer?
My advice would be keep writing, keep writing, keep writing, keep writing. No one's first short story is very good. No one's fiftieth short story is very good. Authors spend a lifetime perfecting their craft and trying out new styles, voices, characters, etc. Just keep writing and enjoy the process of creating your art!
3 who is your favorite author?
This question is always so tough. One of my favorites is definitely Benjamin Alire Saenz, who made me look at writing and poetry in an entirely different light when I was a bit younger. A few other amazing and influential authors are Hanya Yanagihara, Andre Aciman, and Tim O'Brien.
4 Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?
So often, a kind comment will take me completely off-guard and absolutely make me melt. It's still surreal to me that people are genuinely affected by the writing I put out, and it truly means so much when someone expresses that
5 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
I'd probably choose Frank Ocean, and we'd listen to music and talk about life all day!
6 how would you celebrate a publishing deal?
I'd like to have a nice dinner with my friends and family who are always so supportive of my writing.
7 what's your schedule regarding your writing?
Oh god, my writing schedule is pretty much nonexistent. But now that it's summer, the goal is to write at least a little bit daily.
8 what's your favorite holiday and why?
My favorite holiday is probably Christmas, since there are so many fun activities that accompany it. I love making cookies, decorating the house, giving gifts to people, etc.
9 what's your favorite thing about Wattpad?
Definitely the interactions between writers and readers. It's so fast and personal, and it truly makes a difference in the experience for both parties. I also love getting to chat with other writers!
10 what's a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?
I already mentioned Frank Ocean, so another song I really like is "1950" by King Princess. Definitely check her out if you haven't already.
11 what's one Wattpad goal?
My Wattpad goal is to publish a new story soon. I've been struggling with writer's block lately, as well as some personal issues in my life (though the two are pretty intertwined.) However, I'd love to start publishing on here again in the near future.
Request time!
For new readers, I'd recommend checking out "The Sound of Ice". Unlike the sequel, it is free to read, and it's also the first completed story of mine that I've been genuinely, truly proud of. While I think my writing has improved a lot since then, the book is still something that means a lot to me and I'm pleased with how it turned out. It deals with sexuality, coming-of-age, athletics, and relationships between family and friends if you're into that.
