interview #14 @SmokeAndOranges
1. What do you enjoy most about Wattpad?
Being able to interact directly with my readers, and with other writers as I'm reading. Nowhere in the publishing or even self-publishing world can you find that kind of interactivity, and even a lot of other online platforms don't have it to the same degree as Wattpad. It's what keeps me here.
2. If you could hangout with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
Oof, that's a hard question! This may not fit the definition of "celeb," but I'd love to go for lunch with the author N. K. Jemisin and just listen to anything she has to say. To other authors, or just in general.
3. What is your favorite story?
Outside of my own? Cornelia Funke's Inkheart trilogy. Among my own? Probably my Sci-Fi Thriller, White Crystal Butterflies.
4. Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?
Less so now than I used to be, though still a little—especially on my smaller books, haha. But that said, I've been on Wattpad long enough to have found readers who I know love to read what I love to write, so you could say I now believe that such people exist, at least!
5. What's one Wattpad goal?
One of these days, I want to win the Open Novella Contest, a Watty, or both. Mostly, though, I just want to enjoy writing, posting my work, and engaging with my readers.
6. What is your favorite movie?
Moana
7. How would you enjoy a rainy day?
Curled up on my couch with a mug of tea, a cat (or two) in my lap, and my laptop in front of me. Writing, of course.
8. How would you celebrate a publishing deal?
When I was done freaking out, I'd let all my author-friends and readers know (because they've all helped me get to where I am now), probably write and publish some bonus content because that's how I handle overexcitement, then go out for dinner with family or author-friends. Then go back to hugging cats and convincing myself it's not a dream.
9. What is a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?
Neptune, by Sleeping at Last
10. If you could gain advice from your favorite author, who would you choose and what would you ask?
I don't know if I'd call him my favorite anymore (he certainly used to be), but I'd love to talk to Brian Jacques and ask him whether he ever got tired of the series he was known for, what about it kept him going, whether he was aware of the values he imbued it with, and more.
11. What inspired you to write?
Having a world of my own inside my head, and wanting to record and explore it. It was as simple as that. That's still my main inspiration, really.
Request Time
I mentioned White Crystal Butterflies earlier, so I'll go with that. Reading is, of course, always up to the reader, but if you're a fan of smart MCs, sentient planets, fast-paced action, and kickass disaster queers being disasters but also kickass, this one's for you!
