Summer prompt contest winner @Sasha_Samuel, author of Watermelon pink lips

placement: 5th place

1 What is the title of your story? and what inspired the title?

Summer brings various memories and feelings. Some hate the heat. Some love the heat. I for one, I have a love hate relationship with summer but I love watermelon. I wrote a sweet romance and I thought Watermelon Pink Lips would be an apt title to it.

2 What is your story about?

The story begins as a skinny love stuff. Everyone around them knows they both love each other buy they are just not admitting it and what made them admit it finally. It is almost like a spin off of my novel Margo Fawn and the Contagious Missing Delirium - 1

3 Is the summer prompt contest, the first contest you entered?

Yes, this is the first summer prompt contest I have entered and I have never even heard of such a contest before. It was super fun.

4 What was your reaction to discovering you were one of the winners?

This is my first time entering in a contest for writing. I did not expect much out of it. I just took part because it was fun and never though I'd win. So, I'd say it was pretty shocking.

5 What is your favorite summer activity?

Reading books, eating peanut butter banana home made ice cream, longer evening walk with songs looking at the golden sky.

6 do you have any future plans with the story you entered? (stand alone novel/series)

It's like a spin off of my novel Margo Fawn and the Contagious Missing Delirium 1. The novel is a series. The first part is ongoing. It would be complete by around the end of July.

7 What's a good piece of advice to give someone, who desires to enter a contest?

Write for fun. Don't take it as a competition and stress yourself out. When you write for fun you write better. When you are stressed, you don't.

8 What is your favorite summer memory?

Riding bicycles in the evenings when I was a kid.

What is the most important piece of a story?

The cover |quality of the story| type of story

Quality of the story is important than cover and type I'd say. No one is going to look at the cover for more than five minutes. People don't read the book for the cover. The only thing covers are going to do is invite people inside the book but they stay for the quality if the story and not for the cover.

10 How does being a part of the wattpad community help you as writer?

People give me suggestions all the time and leave comments. Those comments encourage me. There are lots of contests going on. They are all fun to take part.

11 What genre of story attracts you as a reader?

I'd love a chick lit book on any day and anything with romance is my jam.

12 What's a good piece of writing advice, that you've learned?

To edit religiously. No matter how good the plot and characters are it would still be off putting if there mistakes in the book.

13 Do you believe contest and interview platforms help you as a writer?

Of course, they help. It's why we have readers to our books as new writers.

14 Since joining Wattpad, do you believe you've become a better writer?

Definitely. I have become a better writer. No denying that. I'm glad I joined Wattpad.

15 What is a must have item for you to enjoy the summer?

Books. Watermelon (*Wink Wink*)

story review

awesome cover and showcases the story perfectly.

editing- character statements should be separated from the actual story piece, to not detract readers. Excellent job at staying in the correct tense through the story.

overall- a real enjoyable story to read.

Congrats to being one of the first annual summer prompt contest winners!
