{A TOWN CALLED MERCY - 2}

"When this is all done, do you want us to take you home?" Amy asks Jex, they were alone in the office. Oliver was with Isaac and Rory, tricking the Gunslinger, and Willow was escorting Emily to the Saloon, helping her collect her's and Oliver's stuff.

"Thank you, but I've already given everything I have to the Kahler. My skills, energy, all that was good in me. Here, I could start afresh... I could remember myself and help people. That's all I ever wanted to do," Jex trails off "...end suffering,"

Amy smiles gently, picking up Isaac's jacket over Jex's shoulders "Here,

"You're a mother, aren't you?"

"How did you know?"

"There's kindness in your eyes. And sadness..." he stares at her "but a ferocity too,"

"Yeah well.... It wasn't exactly straight forward," Amy looks outside the window, where Willow was walking down the street and into the Post Office.

"It seldom is..."

"And what about you? Are you a father?"

Jex thinks for a moment "Yes. In a way, I suppose I am,".

----------&----------

An alarm starts blaring around town and Amy and Jex step out into the wooden porch

"That's the alarm on my ship..."

"Maybe the Doctor wants to get it working again?" Amy guesses

"But that wasn't the plan. He's not following the plan!" Jex storms inside

"Welcome to my world," Amy mutters, staying outside. Willow comes out of the Saloon and steps up to Amy.

"What the hell is that?"

"Jex's ship alarm, The Doctor must be looking around,"

"Hm," Willow sighs, looking out at the town

"Come on," Amy nudges her slightly and they both enter the marshal's office, where Jex is now pointing a revolver at both their heads,

"I'm sorry, Amy. He really should have followed the plan," both women sigh, watching as Jex starts packing, "Isaac says he doesn't care about my past, but things may have been uncovered that even he might struggle to forgive, so it's best we beat a hasty retreat,"

"We?" Willow asks, studying how Jex holds his gun

"We're coming with you?!"

"It's unlikely the Gunslinger will shoot if I'm with either of you. As far as I can tell, he's programmed to take innocent lives only if absolutely necessary,"

"Oh, well, colour me reassured!"

Jex opens the door, but a gun is shoved into the back of his head.

"Doc? What are you doing?" Issacs, Rory, Oliver and Emily are outside and they watch as Willow grabs Jex's arm, twisting it around so she can grab the gun, before stepping back and pointing it at him.

"Cool..." Emily mutters quietly and Willow raises an eyebrow at her.

----------&----------

"It was stupid of me; I realise that now. I just thought I'd put you all in enough danger. Perhaps if I left -" Jex is currently back tracking, glancing over to Willow who had the gun placed next to her Isaac's desk.

The Doctor and Alex enter, the same look of determination and fury on their faces "He's lying!"

"Every word, everything he says, it's all lies," The Doctor gets close to Jex's face "This man is a murderer,"

"I am a scientist!"

"Sit down..." There's no movement "Sit down!"

"Tell them what you are," Alex demands, and Willow stands up, inserting herself between Oliver and Emily.

"What am I? A war hero!"

"Okay, somebody want to tell me what is going on?" Issacs asks calmly and The Doctor walks away slightly.

"The Gunslinger is a Cyborg,"

"A what?"

"Half man, half machine," Oliver explains

"A weapon... Jex built it. He and his team took volunteers, told them they'd been selected for special training, then experimented on them, fused their bodies with weaponry, and programmed them to kill!"

"Okay. Why? Why would you do that, Doc?"

"We'd been at war for nine years. A war that had already decimated half of our planet. Our task was to bring peace, and we did. We built an army that routed the enemy and ended the war in less than a week. Do you want me to repent, to beg forgiveness for saving millions of lives?"

"And how many died screaming on the operating table before you had found your advantage?" The Doctor was right up in Jex's face, and Willow took his hand, gently leading him way.

"War is another world. You cannot apply the politics of peace to what I did. To what any of us did,"

"What happened then? How come you're here?" Rory asks, glancing over to where Willow was drawing circles on The Doctor's hand with her thumb.

"When the war ended, we had the Cyborgs decommissioned, but one of them must have got its circuitry damaged in battle. It went offline and began hunting down the team that created it until just two of us were left. We fled, and our ships crashed here,"

Rory looks over to The Doctor for some help on what to do next, but he's staring down at the ground and Willow is a bit preoccupied keeping him calm.

"So, what do we do with Jex?" Rory asks, getting the remaining people in a small huddle.

"What do we do with him?"

"Yeah. I mean, he's a war criminal," Rory states

"No, he's the guy that saved the town from cholera, the guy that gave us heat and light,"

"I mean, he's a war criminal as well," Oliver gives Issac a strange look, how could he basically ignore everything just said?

"Look, Jex may be a criminal and yeah, kind of creepy -" Amy starts

"And still in the room,"

"Shut it!" Alex barks at him, turning back to the group

"But I think we should put aside what he did and find another solution,"

"Another solution? It's him or us,"

"That's one way to put it," Emily whispers

"He shouldn't get to put all these people's lives in danger, no more lives should be lost because of him," Willow speaks up

"When did we start letting people get executed? Did I miss a memo? Doctor, tell them!" she looks over to her best friend and daughter

"Hmm? Yes. I don't know," The Doctor looks up "Whatever Amy said,"

"Looking at you, Doctor, is like looking into a mirror, almost. There's rage there, like me. Guilt, like me. Solitude. Everything but the nerve to do what needs to be done," Jex says smugly and Willow glares at him "Thank the gods my people weren't relying on you to save them,"

"No. No, but these people are," The Doctor rushes forward, pulling Jex up "Out! Out! Out!" everyone's eyes widen and they rush after The Doctor and Jex, as Amy goes stop leave, Rory turns to stop her

"Oh, you're really letting him do this?"

"Save us all? Yeah, I really am!"

Out on the street, Jex is shouting out as The Doctor pushes him along "Go on,".

The townsfolk have come out now and are following Isaac, watching The Doctor push Jex over the boundary.

"Get over, and don't come back!" The Doctor takes a gun from a man's holster and points it at Jex as he tries to return.

"Put the gun down, Doctor!" Willow shouts out, stepping forward

"I thought you agreed with me!"

"Gun, down," Willow starts slowly "Then we can talk about this, we're not letting him be murdered in front of a whole town! Let him keep some of his dignity!" she goes ignored and sighs, looking around for something to grab his attention.

"You wouldn't," Jex looks The Doctor in his eyes

"I genuinely don't know..."

"Doctor," Isaac tries to get his attention "Doctor," he turns around, gun still in hand and everyone ducks as two shots are fired, Willow and Amy are standing amongst the crouched people.

"Let him come back, Doctor!"

"Or what? You won't shoot me, Amy,"

"I definitely will though!" Willow warns, aiming the gun at The Doctor's arm

"How do you know I wouldn't? Maybe I've changed. I mean, you've clearly been taking stupid lessons since I saw you last!" Amy waves the gun about and it fires again "I didn't mean to do that!" her gun goes off again

"Everyone who isn't an American, drop your gun!" Isaac orders and Amy does as she's told, Willow following suit.

"We can end this right now. We could save everyone right now," The Doctor marches towards Amy

"This is not how we roll, and you know it. What happened to you, Doctor? When did killing someone become an option?"

"Jex has to answer for his crimes,"

"And what then? Are you going to hunt down everyone who's made a gun or a bullet or a bomb?"

"But they keep coming back, don't you see? Every time I negotiate, I try to understand. Well, not today. No. Today, I honour the victims first. His, the Master's, the Dalek's, all the people who died because of my mercy!" The Doctor shouts and Willow looks over to Oliver and Emily, who seem to be watching in shock. Willow supposed they hadn't been told by Alex about this side of him.

"You see, this is what happens when you travel alone for too long. Well, listen to me, Doctor. We can't be like him. We have to be better than him,"

"Amelia Pond..." The Doctor looks around "Fine, fine. We think of something else. But frankly, I'm betting on the Gunslinger!" he walks back up to the line, passing the gun back to the owner and holding out his same hand.

"Jex, move over the line. Now," Jex doesn't move, and the Gunslinger is soon right behind him, he slowly turns.

"Make peace with your gods," The Gunslinger says sharply

"Kahler-Tek, isn't it? I remember all your names, even now. I'll never hurt anyone again. I'm even helping people here,"

"Last chance. Make peace with your gods," his gun goes off, and Issacs screams out, pushing Jex out of the way. Unfortunately, getting hit himself.

"Isaac!" The Doctor rushes forward "Isaac... Isaac. It's okay, it's okay," Willow crouches down as well

"We can get you to Jex's surgery. He can save you,"

"Listen to me. You two've got to stay. You've got to look after everyone,"

"It won't come to that, Isaac," The Doctor reassures

"Protect Jex. Protect my town. You're all good people. You just forget it sometimes," Issacs lets out his last breath, handing over his badge to The Doctor. He stands, pinning it to his badge

"Take Jex to his cell. If anything happens to him, you'll have me to answer to!" The Doctor tells two men, and they nod, grabbing Jex and Willow looks up at the Gunslinger from across the line.

"This has gone on far too long,"

"You are right. You've got until noon tomorrow. Give him to me or I'll kill you all," he vanishes and Willow sighs

"Oh, my god. You're the Marshal," Amy says, looking at The Doctor's badge

"Yeah. And you're the Deputy," he walks off and is followed by his in-laws, wife, daughter and her friends.

A/N: I'm not dead! Yay! Um...so I just lost a lot of motivation for this, but I'm hoping to try and get some chapters out.

However, I was thinking of maybe making an AU book based of this series, maybe a Royal AU or Modern AU, idk, I want to do something else with this, so some feedback would be great!
