{NIGHT TERRORS - 1}

" Is that a torch?"

"Screwdriver. A sonic one, that does other stuff,"

"Please may I see the other stuff?"

"Of course you can. Then, you can tell us more about the monsters, yeah?"

"...Yeah,"

----------&----------

Everyone's standing around the console, Amy, Rory and Willow holding mugs of tea. Willow was lost in her own thoughts. She hadn't properly spoken to The Doctor since before Berlin. She was disappointed and angry that he didn't go and save Amy and Rory, that he'd have preferred to watch her die.  She thought that maybe it was a ploy to get Melody to rescue them and start her journey of becoming River Song, but he could have told her, given her a signal or told her after.

It was radio silence between them. Amy and Rory could tell something was wrong, but didn't want to mention it. Maybe Poppy would have forgiven him, but she's different now. Not just because she's got all her memories back, but because she's got a brand-new personality and new name. Technically old name, but Poppy was still Willow, just with no memories and in a different regeneration. The Doctor seemed to have trouble excepting that. How cruel it was that when he regenerated, it was like nothing had changed. But now...Everything had.

"Haven't done this in a while," The Doctor suddenly speaks after pocketing his psychic paper.

"Haven't done what? What are you doing?" Amy questions, watching The Doctor fiddle with the TARDIS

"Making a house call!" he pulls a lever and The TARDIS sets off into time and space.

----------&-----------

The TARDIS materialises by a big puddle and everyone steps out, Willow grimacing as her boots get wet.

"No offence, Doctor -" Rory starts

"Meaning the opposite,"

"But we could get a bus somewhere like this,"

"The exact opposite," The Doctor mutters as he leads them away from the TARDIS

"Well, I suppose it can't all be planets and history and stuff, Rory,"

"Yes, it can. Course it can. Planets and history and stuff. That's what we do. But not today. No," The Doctor rambles "Today, we're answering a cry for help from the scariest place in the universe. A child's bedroom..."

The four walks through the building and into a lift "Please save me from the monsters? Who sent that?" Rory clearly didn't want to be here

"That's what we're here to find out,"

"Sounds like something a kid would say,"

"Exactly. A scared kid. A very scared kid. So scared that somehow its cry for help got through to us in the TARDIS,"

"Yeah, but you've traced it here,"

"Exactly," they all face outwards ion the lift "Ah. Going up,"

----------&----------

Everyone's knocking on different doors. Willow's greeted by several miserable people and many awkward situations until she gives up, she looks up and sees The Doctor looking at something below her, she hears Amy and Rory and goes to find them.

"Hey. Any luck?" Amy asks when they meet up again by the lift.

"Three old ladies, a traffic warden from Croatia and a man with ten cats," The Doctor explains

"What are we actually looking for?"

"Ten cats..." he continues in shock "Scared kid, remember?"

"I found scary kids. Does that count?" Amy shrugs

"Er, try the next floor down. Catch you later," The Doctor rushes off and Willow follows, knowing he'd found something.

"So, where're we going?" she asks and The Doctor stops in his place.

"Looking for the kid, as you should be,"

"Ah yes, but I know you've already found him, so lead the way," The Doctor mods before walking again.

"I thought you're not talking to me,"

"I can put that aside for a moment, that child's fear came all the way from here - something out of EastEnders - and to the TARDIS which was 50 years in the future and in space. They must be pretty terrified, so they need help,"

"Exactly," the Doctor nods as he knocks on a door, as soon as it's opened, he flashes his psychic paper.

"Oh. Right. That was quick," A young man says and Willow looks at him confused.

"Was it?" The Doctor checks the paper

"Claire said she'd phone someone. Social Services,"

"Yes. Yes!" The Doctor agrees.

"It's not easy, you know, admitting your kids got a problem,"

"You've got a problem. I've got a problem. I bet they're connected, I'm the Doctor. Call me Doctor. That's Willow. What can I call you?"

"Alex,"

"Hello, Alex," The Doctor steps inside and Willow shakes Alex's hand "So, tell us about George," she mutters after looking at the door where his name is on a label.

----------&----------

The Doctor is looking through the family albums, Willow's sat on the arm of the sofa "Ever since he was born, he's been a funny kid," Alex explains

"Funny's good. We like funny, don't we?"

"He never cries. Bottles it all up, I suppose. Tell him off, he just looks at you,"

"How old is he?" Willow asks

"He was eight in January. I mean, he should be growing out of stuff like this, shouldn't he?" Alex stands and Willow sits where he was next to The Doctor

"Maybe. It's got worse, though lately?"

"Yeah. We talked about getting help. You know, maybe sending him somewhere. He started getting these nervous tics. You know, funny little cough, blinking all the time. But now it's got completely out of hand. I mean, he's scared to death of everything,"

"Pantaphobia,"

"What?"

"That's what it's called. Pantaphobia. Not a fear of pants though, if that's what you're thinking. It's a fear of everything...Including pants, I suppose, in that case," Willow taps him gently and The Doctor realises he's been rambling "Sorry. Go on,"

"He hates clowns -"

"Understandable," Willow mutters

"Old toys. He thinks the old lady across the way is a witch," The Doctor smiles slightly at that "He hates having a bath in case there's something under the water. The lift sounds like someone breathing..." Alex trails off, clearly it was really affecting him as well "Look, I don't know. I'm not an expert. Maybe you two can get through to him,"

"We'll do our best," Willow nods before a crash echoes through the flat. Alex rushes into George's bedroom and The Doctor and Willow slowly follow, leaning by the doorway.

"Were you having a nightmare, son?"

"Wasn't a nightmare. I wasn't asleep," George says matter-of-factly before looking at the doorway "Who are you?"

"I'm Willow," she smiles "And that's The Doctor,"

"A doctor? Have you come to take me away?"

"No, George. We just want to talk to you,"

"What about?"

"About the monsters,".

----------&----------

The Doctor's sat on the floor, trying to solve a Rubik's cube whilst Willow sits on George's bed.

"Maybe it was things on the telly, you know?" Alex is pacing across the floor.

"Right," The Doctor isn't exactly listening

"Scary stuff, getting under his skin, frightening him,"

"Mm-hmm,"

"We stopped letting him watch,"

"No, don't do that," Willow tells him, giving George a wink

"Then Claire thought it might have been something he was reading,"

"Great. Reading's great. You like stories, George?" The Doctor turns to him and George nods "Yeah? Me, too. When I was your age, about, oooo..." The Doctor thinks "a thousand years ago, I loved a good bedtime story.' The Three Little Sontarans'. 'The Emperor Dalek's New Clothes'. 'Snow White and The Seven Keys to Doomsday', eh? All the classics," The Doctor becomes aggravated and throws the Rubik's cube onto George's bed "Rubbish! Must be broken. I hate those things..." Alex gives The Doctor a disapproving look "Better tidy it away, though, eh? How about in here?" he points to the cupboard and George shakes his head violently, Willow gently puts her hand out for him to take and he does "No. Not in the cupboard..."

"Why not in there, George?" Willow asks calmly

"It's a thing. A thing we got him doing ages back. Anything that frightens him, we put it in the cupboard. Creepy toys, scary pictures, that sort of thing," Alex explains.

"And is that where the monsters go? Yeah. There's nothing to be scared of, George. It's just a cupboard," The Doctor goes to open it slowly and the entire room is tense, George squeezes Willow's hand and she moves closer to him. Seconds before The Doctor is about to unlock to, a banging fills the room and everyone jumps whilst George hides in Willow's blazer.
