The Curse Of The Black Spot {ONE}

Poppy was sat in the kitchen, having been told to stay in the ship for the last few adventures. The TARDIS had picked up a distress signal and The Doctor, Amy and Rory had gone to investigate. A strong cup of tea was sat in front of her and she tentatively sipped it, bored out of her mind. The setting reminded her of the conversation her and The Doctor had had the other night.
Poppy leant against the cupboards by the sink as the kettle boiled, she was dressed in her pyjamas - some blue bottoms and a loose white t-shirt - and The Doctor gently knocked on the door. "It's your kitchen, you don't have to knock," Poppy reminds him.
"You're wearing your glasses," The Doctor notes awkwardly and Poppy raises an eyebrow
"Well yes, I can't wear contacts forever,"
"While, you were kidnapped..." The Doctor starts and Poppy's eyes widen
"Look, I don't remember a lot..."
"You said you thought you were pregnant, and that you're no longer..."
"Oh," Poppy sighs, trying to avoid eye contact as The Doctor got closer "Yeah, I guess I wasn't pregnant to start with," The Doctor grabs her hand gently.
"Did you want to be? I mean, would you have a wanted a kid with me?"
"I thought it would be the other way around!" Poppy exclaims "I thought you wouldn't have wanted it with human. Y'know what would that even be? I mean 50/50 DNA can only do so much. Would it have a heart and a half? Would it even survive?" Poppy starts rambling and The Doctor quickly kisses her.
"Well, we don't have to worry" Poppy finally breathes out.
"Yeah... "The Doctor looks down at her stomach and Poppy looks up.
"You okay?"
"Yeah!" his happy façade is back "I just think maybe you should stay here for a bit, let me, Amy and Rory deal with the universe - just whilst you're still feeling ill,"
"Yeah, "Poppy agrees.
The TARDIS starts shaking and Poppy looks up "What's up with you?" it doesn't respond and Poppy sighs, working her way to the console room where she hoped The Doctor would be.
And he is, with a pirate
"Okay, she's had her little sulk. Now she's heading for the full-on screaming tantrum!"
"Can you fix it?" The pirate asks
"What's going on?!" Poppy shouts from by the stairs, trying to hold on
"Ah Poppy! Meet Captain Avery!" he gestures "Now, the parametric engines are jammed. Orthogonal vector's gone. I'm almost out of ideas!"
"Almost?"
"Well, we could try stroking her and singing her a song!" The Doctor suggests as he keeps trying to calm the TARDIS and Poppy manages to join them in the corner
"Will that help?"
"Hard to say. Never has before. I've lost control of her. She's about to dematerialise. We could end up anywhere!"
"That sounds bad!"
"It definitely is!" Poppy shouts at the pirate she just met
"Yes, it is! Out! Out now! Abandon ship! Abandon ship!" The Doctor pulls Poppy out as things start exploding.
The three watch the TARDIS dematerialising, instead this time a green light appears to be taking it away.
"Okay, okay, okay. TARDIS runs off on its own. That's a bit of a new one," The Doctor looks down at Poppy "Bang goes our only hope of getting them out of here,"
"Who out of where? Where're we?"
"I'll expla -'' He's interrupted by a pirate pulling two pistols out on his captain, a jewelled crown hanging off his wrist.
"Mulligan, what are you doing? This is mutiny!"
"She doesn't want me. She only wants Toby and the scrawny looking fellow!" the pirate runs off
"He's got the last of the supplies. We should go after him," The Doctor starts
"Never mind the damned supplies. What about my treasure?" They run after him and Mulligan starts shooting at them - The Doctor pulls Poppy out of the way
"Don't get injured! Don't get injured!"
"What's happening?!" Poppy shouts again, confused as The Doctor pulls her to where Milligan is
"Come out of there, you mutinous dog!" Avery bangs on the doors as a song starts, Poppy looks confused as The Doctor grabs her hands, searching for a black spot, then his own. The same light that was by the TARDIS comes out of the door.
Siren song. The Doctor and Avery check themselves for injury. Then a light glow under the door to the hold.)
"She's inside..."
"She's come for Mulligan," they hear a scream and open the door, searching for something as Poppy stands by the door.
"No water in here. How did she take him? You said she uses water like a door, that's how she enters a room...." Avery picks up the crown and The Doctor stares at it.
"I was wrong. Please ignore all my theories up to this point..." The Doctor stares at himself in the reflection.
"What, again?"
"It happens a lot more than he'd like to admit," Poppy tells Avery.
"We're all in danger. The water's not how she's getting in. When we were down in the hold, think what happened. You, me, Amy, Rory, leeches..."
"Amy, Rory and leeches?" Poppy asks confused, yet she was still being ignored.
"She sprang from the water," Avery mutters
"Yes, only when it grew still. Still water. Nature's mirror...."
"So, you mean...?"
"Yes. Not water, reflection. That siren legend. The curse..."
"You said curses weren't real!"
"Folklore springs from truth," Poppy explains
"She attacks ships filled with treasure. Where else do you get a perfect reflection?"
"Polished metal!" Avery says urgently
"Hmm," The Doctor inspects the crown he'd taken earlier before the two realise something "Hide it!" he chucks the crown to Poppy and she puts it under some clothing before running after The Doctor and Avery.
The Doctor and Avery slam on the door shouting, and Amy opens it quickly as The Doctor rushes in, taking a medal from a small boy and breathing on it, Poppy leans on the wall next to Amy.
The Doctor and Avery rush out "Anyone wanna explain what's happening?" Poppy asks the group
"Siren, Mermaid, thing is marking hurt people with a black spot, then she lures them in. They touch her hand a poof!" Amy gestures "they disintegrate and disappear,"
"Oh, it's going well then,"
"And Rory's got a black spot, along with Toby. Toby, meet Poppy,"
"Hi," Poppy waves to the boy before turning to Rory "So, you might die?"
"Yup,"
----------&----------
Later, Rory and Amy are asleep, using sacks as pillows. Poppy is also asleep by them, her head on Amy's thighs.
"It's fine. You're doing fine. Just stay calm," Amy opens her eyes just in time to see an apparent hatch in the side of the ship slide shut on the face of the same mysterious woman Poppy and he saw at Greystar orphanage. As she leans back down to go back to sleep, Poppy twitches slightly in a dream, she sees the same woman, but she doesn't know it's the one from the orphanage. She recognises it as the one with the girls in her vision back at the Byzantium.
'Tick tock, goes the clock,'
