The sun is setting for her final day on earth.

The birds are singing their final songs, fireflies blinking with their last light, crickets making their usually annoying yet now sad music from deep inside the tall deep grass. At the top of the hill there is an old oak tree that's been there forever; most likely the tree is older than the town below. Colorful leaves are falling around a young woman for the last day of fall, but winter is never to come...

She pulls a piece of paper out of her pocket. It reads,

Lilliana,

Thank you for your assistance with Asteroid 821039 also known as Geb. I'm sending you one million dollars for your time. Thanks to your failure, Doomsday will be here in a week to destroy us all. Congratulations Lilliana.

Lilliana let one tear drop to the paper. She had contacted everyone and it was too late for anything to be done. She said it wasn't a problem, but she had been wrong. When morning came, the Earth would be struck by an asteroid the size of the moon and reduced to space rubble. There was nothing she, or anyone else could do. This was the end. The last night on earth forever.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sight of a five year old playing in the valley below, laughter spilled from her smile. The little girl had no idea that this was the end. The world started to fall into slow motion.

Lilliana's heart started beating in her chest louder and louder, thumping as though it were fighting to escape. Louder and faster. She could feel her heartbeat in her head. Thump. Thump. Thump. Slower and harder.

"Just end it all now," a voice inside her hissed. In that moment she decided. She was going to do it and nothing would stop her.The world grew fuzzy. She started to walk towards her gun. She always carried it with her, just in case. As she leaned over to pick it up, Someone else walked into view. Her eyes focused on them. Lilliana's best friend; the only person she ever truly loved.

"What are you doing?" She asks with a look of horror.

"I'm dying," Lilliana says with a smile and gun in hand. "This is my end. I can't watch you all die."

"No, please don't do this." Tears are streaming down her beautiful face as she pleads. All of the sudden, Lilliana's vision blurs worse than ever before.

"I have to go..."

"I.....I .... But I love you." Adrenaline rushes to Lilliana's head at her words. Lilliana raises her gun.

"I loved you too," I whisper.

She races towards Lilliana. She stops about an inch away. The sun completely sets behind her enveloping them in a cloak of darkness. Lilliana feel her tears on her cheeks. She put her gun to her head. Lilliana feels the other girls lips against hers.
