Miles Apart
Dr. Steve Oswal, clinical psychiatrist, stared at the gloomy woman sitting before him. Her face had traces of tears and eyes were puffy. It was evident that she had been crying since a long time. She was beautiful indeed. Very beautiful.
Her eyes were perfectly sculpted to suit her face which now looked like a wilted flower.
"May I know your name? "he asked calmly.
"Naira.. Naira David! "she answered, clearing her throat uncomfortably.
"What's troubling you? Let me see if I can help you."he said, placing his hands on the table.
"Dr...Me and my husband... Was separated an year ago. "she stated, breaking into a light sob.
Dr.Steve did not reply but eyed her to go on.
"But a day after the separation, he came back to me. He told me that he was not in peace without spending time with me. He told me that he loved me. I was the happiest person hearing that. I welcomed him back to me. He touched me like he always did.He soothed me like he always did.He talked to me like he always did.He slept beside me everyday like he always did. But.... "she paused. Her breaths became heavier.
"What happened?"he asked with a concerned voice.
"But.. Whenever I was near him, I had a weird feeling. We were so close but miles apart. "she stopped again. Her breaths became faster and she clenched her wrists.
"Two....two days before... He told me that he can't stay with me forever. He told me that he needed to go.He told me that he will love me forever but he cannot stay any longer. He asked me not to hate him. He bid goodbye to me who was crying miserably. He kissed me goodbye. I shouted out his name, but he didn't turn back. I begged him to stay, but he didn't turn back. I threatened him with my life, but he didn't turn back. He is gone."She remarked sorrowfully and broke down on the chair. She was weeping uncontrollably.
Steve handed her a glass of water and she put an end to her cries.
"My neighbor told me that you can help me. Bring him back to me doctor! I want him back! "she said awfully. Her hands were shivering and lips were quivering.
"Why were you separated? "asked Steve.
"No specific reason. "
"What? You divorced just like that? "
"Divorce, my foot! Who told you we are divorced?"she seethed in fury.
"How were you separated? "asked a bewildered Steve.
"It was a rainy night. Me and David were returning from a restaurant after having a lovely candlelight dinner. It was raining cats and dogs. Such a heavy rain that David did not see the truck coming from an alleyway on our left. It hit us and we went flying in the air. He did not have his seatbelt on. Then all I can remember is me opening my eyes in a hospital to receive the news that he was dead. That's how we were separated."she said.
"And a day after his cremation,he came back to me. He told me that he was not in peace without spending time with me. He told me that he loved me.He told me that only his body had died and his soul still belonged to me. I was the happiest person hearing that. I welcomed him back to me. He touched me like he always did.He soothed me like he always did.He talked to me like he always did.He slept beside me everyday like he always did.
But... Two....two days before... He is gone.Only you can bring him back to me doctor. Give him back to me! "she went on chanting it like a hymn and Dr. Steve Oswal could only sigh.
