Chapter 98

It was right after breakfast and the four Gryffindor girls were on their way to the Transfiguration classroom.

"Oh, no... not now." Lily groaned, coming to a stop at the beginning of the corridor.

"What?" Alice asked, and Lily gestured her head over.

Following her gaze, Jenna spotted her brother and his friends further down the corridor. Oddly, James was wearing his Quidditch uniform instead of his Hogwarts robes and was holding onto his brand new and expensive broom, leaning into it like a cane.

As for Sirius, as usual he was wearing neither his Gryffindor sweater nor his robes, and was only wearing his black trousers and white button-down shirt, with its sleeves rolled up and his tie worn loosely around his neck. His back was leant against the wall and his hands were in his pockets, his lips bearing that same old stupid grin as he was telling something to his friends.

The only normal people standing there seemed to be Peter and Remus. Peter was listening to every word Sirius was saying with anticipation, meanwhile Remus kept checking his watch, seemingly worried that they might be late for McGonagall's first class of their fourth year.

Usually, Jenna would be glad to see her brother and loved to go ahead and say hello. But with Sirius Black standing right next to him, Jenna dreaded passing by them almost as much as Lily did.

"Ugh, just ignore them and let's get to class. I'm not in the mood for drama this morning," Marlene yawned loudly, rubbing her eyes sleepily.

"When are you ever not in the mood for drama?" said Jenna.

"This is old drama. It's different from fresh juicy drama," Marlene said wisely. "If I hear you two complain about Potter or Black one more time I'll just whoosh myself off the Astronomy Tower."

"She's right. Let's just get to class. I don't want to arrive late at McGonagall's class." Lily sighed, walking forward with great determination to ignore the boys, denying them even a single glass as they passed them by.

But of course, it was useless.

     "Evans! Oi, Evans!"

"Oh, for heaven's sake." Lily closed her eyes in misery, sighing after he heard the voice calling after her, with no intention to stop until he had her attention.

"What do you now, Potter? We have a class to get to." Lily said sternly.

"Just wanted to ask how your morning has been going." James shrugged innocently, but his grin was saying otherwise.

"My morning was fine, Potter. Is that all?"

James chuckled, running a hand through his jet-black. "What's with the rush, Evans? Don't you enjoy my company?"

"As a matter of fact, I don't," she snapped.

"Ouch!" James winced mockingly, placing a hand over his chest, saying dramatically, "Have you no compassion for my poor heart?"

"Have a good day, Potter," Lily said coldly before turning to walk away.

But James was quick to run after her and stand in front of her, blocking Lily's way and stopping her.

Alice was watching them with worry, meanwhile Marlene's attention seemed to have been finally caught, her sneaky smile growing with amusement. Jenna, however, decided to remain quiet, afraid to draw attention to herself during this fight and causing Sirius Black to talk to her.

"Move out of my way, Potter," Lily snarled, her teeth now gritting together.

"Go out with me, Evans," James said, and the look on Lily's face only got more horrifying by those words.

      "I hate your guts."

"Oh, come on. Are you still mad at me and Snivellus?"

      "What do you think!?"

James sighed and threw back his head in exhaustion. "Ugh, how many times do you want me to apologize, Evans?"

"Oh, Geez! I don't know! How about you start with once?" Lily shouted angrily. She waited for a few moments longer, but when it seemed obvious that James had no intention of actually apologizing, she turned around and stormed away.

There was a moment of silence until there came the sound of slow claps.

Jenna turned around and looked behind her, seeing Sirius and Remus, clapping at him sarcastically.

James's smile grew back on his face and then he bowed at them dramatically. "Thank you, gentlemen. Thank you."

Jenna did her best to hide her laugh as she turned to face Marlene and Alice. "C'mon, let's go. Who's in charge of putting out Red-Head's fire down today in class?"

***

As predicted, Lily was in the worst mood possible in class. So much that she didn't even take out her books out of her bag before the professor's arrival.

It was five minutes later that the chatter inside the room fell quiet as soon as Professor McGonagall entered the class.

"Good morning, good morning," she said, walking to the front of the class with her wand already in her hand and her green velvet cloak trailing on the ground after her. "As you know, only a year is left to your O.W.L exams, which is —"

She suddenly fell silent, her eyes fixed somewhere at the back of the classroom.

"Potter, is there a reason as to why you're wearing your Quidditch uniform in my class?" said McGonagall, glaring daggers at him.

"The reason is efficiency, Professor," James said confidently. "I have Quidditch practice in a few hours so I thought I would buy myself some time, and instead of having to go all the way to my dorm to change, I'd just wear them now."

"Or it was because you're an attention-seeking toe-rag," Jenna muttered playfully into Lily's ears, causing a smile to appear on her lips.

"Rules are rules, Potter," McGonagall said strictly. "I don't care if you have to travel to the other side of the world to change your clothes, Potter. But in my class — as in all school classes — you ought to be present in your school uniform. Now get out of my class and immediately change into proper clothes and be back. Five points will be taken from Gryffindor. If you're not back in ten minuets, it would be twenty points."

"But the Gryffindor tower is on the other si—"

     "Tick tock, Potter."

"Sir, yes, sir!" He saluted, and then purposely jumped out of his seat in such a rushed way that made everyone in the room laugh and ran out of the class.

Sirius was still sniggering as he was sitting right beside him, swinging his chair onto its two back legs and leaning back into his seat with his arms crossed.

"That means you too, Black. Proper clothes," said McGonagall, and with a swish of her wand Sirius tie tightened and his shirt was magically tucked into his trousers neatly.

And then, with another swish, she brought his chair to all four legs and stuck them to the floor, so that he could no longer move it.

Just like the rest of the class, Jenna had turned her head to look at him from over her shoulder, but suddenly caught his eyes.

Jenna gave her a witty grin that said 'you deserved it'. But in returned, Sirius winked at her.

Taken a back, Jenna abruptly turned her head back and faced-forward, feeling her cheeks heating.

     She truly hated that boy.

***

Only two days left to the full moon, and Remus was feeling worse than the past few days. That morning, the four boys were sitting at the Gryffindor table for breakfast. It was a Saturday, so they had all day to attend to their potion which they were keeping in the abandoned girls' bathroom.

James and Sirius were going on and on about what they're supposed to do next for the potion, and then about a secret passageway to Hogsmeade they had discovered. But Remus was too tired to listen to a word they were saying, and Peter was too busy trying to open a jar of cookies his mother had sent him.

"Hey, Remus. Could you give this a try?" said Peter, offering the jar to Remus. "It's really hard, though. My mum uses magic to completely seal it shut. Ya know? So it won't open while the owl's carrying it here."

"Er... yeah sure." Remus nodded exhaustedly, taking the glass jar from Peter.

He gave it all his strength to open the jar; but not only did he manage to open the lid, but his grip was so firm that the glass shattered in his hand.

"Damn it!" Remus huffed out angrily, staring at the broken pieces of glass and the cookies that had fallen down. "Oh, no... I'm so sorry, Peter. Really, I'm sorry — I forgot — the days before, I get — sorry."

"Damn, Lupin. You just crushed that thing," James said with fascination. "I didn't know you got super strength before your furry problem."

"I mean — if you want to call it super strength then, I guess yeah —"

"Brilliant!" James shoved Sirius a little to the right so he was now sitting right in front of Remus. James then placed his elbow on the table, looking at him challengingly. "Let's give it a go then, shall we?"

Remus gave him a look. "What exactly are you doing, James?"

"Arm wrestling, of course." James grinned. "Go on."

Remus sighed, but finally gave in and took James's hand on the table. On the count of three, they began the match, but James's face fell when not only three second later Remus smacked his hand down to the table.

James laughed. "Blimey! That was awesome!"

Sirius went second, and he was pushing so hard that his face turned red, but in five seconds Remus had defeated him in the wrestle as well.

People around them were also watching with amusement, and soon, a few others asked to try arm-wrestling Remus, and neither of them won.

It was right then that Sirius stood on top of the Gryffindor table, yelling, "Remus Lupin is calling for the worthy opponent! Come forth, if you dare!

Remus couldn't help but to laugh as his friends made a scene out of the whole scene, even inviting huge seventh year boys over and challenging everyone.

Even in his worst times, his friends always managed to find a way to make him smile.
