Kim Namjoon
Jungkook pretended he wasn't shaking, his leg bouncing up and down while he sat on the bench in the park. Namjoon was about to arrive, Jungkook attempting to not fall into his past. Every memory was echoing through the depths of his skull, screeching at his mind as if that would solve anything. It was safe to assume it didn't, and Jungkook was left with the shattered glass that was his heart.
He could imagine Namjoon's dragon eyes glaring at him, his face a pale shade Jungkook had never seen before. His fingers fiddled over each other, and soon enough, the executioner came. Namjoon stalked into the vicinity, Jungkook refusing to meet his eyes. He could tell just based on the sound of his footsteps that it was Namjoon. That and the large build that admittedly had Jungkook trembling more.
The man wordlessly sat next to Jungkook, and the two stared out at the river. Silence followed, Jungkook licking his lips before rubbing his fingers together. Who was to talk first? Maybe Jungkook? Explain himself since Tae didn't give him the chance to? Or Namjoon could curse him out and get it over with.
"You're a fucking idiot," Namjoon said. Welp, that answered that.
"I know."
"You got someone killed."
"Now that's an exaggeration, I made a mistake. I witnessed it-"
"You witnessed it and didn't tell anyone," Namjoon said, cutting off all of Jungkook's thoughts. "Why didn't you tell anyone? You could've stopped it. Or even if you couldn't stop it, you could've called the police."
"I did call the police. I just did it anonymously."
"Why?" Jungkook thought back to the reason why he didn't want to give witness testimony. He honestly couldn't come up with anything. "That's what I thought. Tell me everything. Now."
And Jungkook did. He went through each and every detail down to the minuscular ones. The memories punched his gut, his body resisting the urge to lurch as Namjoon observed him. Jungkook managed to keep his voice low and smooth, but he couldn't stop the cracks that happened here and there.
The diner, his volunteer work, the loan shark, the gunshots, Namjoon's grandfather warning Jungkook not to tell Namjoon in fear he might hate his friend - he went over everything as fluidly as he could without causing more pain than he already had. Jungkook pondered how his life got like this, exactly. He was only a college kid, but here he was in a mess he never wanted to be apart of. He was barely an adult, and now he was a prime witness to a murder. Would his testimony even matter? It wasn't like he saw anything Namjoon's grandfather didn't. What the hell was even the point anymore? Jungkook shook his thoughts away, deciding to continue his 'story'.
By the time he was finished, Namjoon was staring at him with no emotion readable on his face. Jungkook couldn't imagine the dilemma he was going through. Jungkook was his friend, and he didn't tell Namjoon about something important such as this. Of course, Jungkook regretted it immensely, but there wasn't much he could do anymore other than wait for the behemoth to react. And that was exactly what he did. He sat there, his hands folded together, his eyes on the bench. Jungkook kept his eyes on the ground until he heard the soft smack of Namjoon's lips as he parted them, signaling he was about to speak.
"He told you not to tell anyone, but you still told Jimin and Tae?" Namjoon asked, a bit too calm considering the situation. And that was the scariest part. The calmness that tricked Jungkook into thinking he was secure in this conversation. That Namjoon would forgive him and everything would be okay. Their friendship could go back to normal, perhaps even stronger than before. All Jungkook had to do was not fuck it up even more. But apparently, Namjoon already made up his mind, and what Jungkook said next wouldn't matter at all.
"How was I supposed to keep quiet? I was scared, Namjoon. I can't just watch something like that and not be scarred. I wasn't too close to your grandparents, but I still cared."
"My grandfather was right. I would hate you," Namjoon said, standing and straightening his shirt. "So I'll tell the police what you told me, and you're going to be a witness-"
"You can't prove that. Your grandfather will defend me in court, and you'll have nothing more than fake proof. Please don't even try it, I could get charged for... I don't even know, something! It was an accident! You have no proof of anything," Jungkook replied, resisting his overwhelming urge to take Namjoon's hand and beg.
Namjoon slid his phone out, waving it around to show he was recording their conversation. "Oops. I was recording the river, guess I forgot to turn it off."
"Joon! Come on, don't do this!" But Namjoon already made up his mind. Jungkook gave him desperate eyes, his face doing the pleading his mouth failed to do. He tried and tried to get Namjoon to see his side, but it was like Jungkook was talking to a wall. Not that Jungkook could blame the man. He was going through a lot, so this must have felt like a betrayal. Jungkook wasn't sure if he should break down crying right in front of him, or if he should remain numb to it all. He opted to lean back, allowing Namjoon to do what he had to do.
"See you in court, Mr. Jeon." Jungkook stared helplessly as Namjoon sauntered away, his shoulders slumping and his face forming a frown. Namjoon was his friend. Was. Now they were on complete opposite sides because Jungkook messed up in the one moment in his life he couldn't mess up in. Y/n would see him suffering. Maybe she'd break up with him for it. No, no she wouldn't do that. She couldn't. At this rate, she would quickly become the only good thing he had left. But he didn't have much confidence in himself right now. One thing was for sure though...
His life was about to change forever.
