Chapter 8: A boyfriend
"It's not gonna happen Tae," you rolled your eyes, comfortably calling Taehyung by his nickname but he only frowned more.
"Why again?" As if he just couldn't get it in his head he asked.
"I don't think you understand the complexity or the reality when it comes to dating or a relationship between a boy and a girl. You're not even from earth, Tae," you elaborated but your strong words made his frown change into a confused look.
Heaving a long sigh you put down your spoon with a clank. "Okay what I'm saying is, it's not as easy as it sounds. You don't know much about it that's why you could take the boyfriend term so easily. And honestly, I can't even look at you like that."
"Hah, that's why you were ogling at me the day before," he rolled his eyes looking away dramatically as soon as you were finished.
"And for your information I read plenty amount of books back at heaven so I know a few. You can't be a fairy without some knowledge and I can learn?" He added still having that sassy expression on.
This guy just can't take a no, can he?
"I'm sorry but we need to end that topic here Tae." You got up from your seat as you were done with your breakfast. "I have classes so I'm leaving."
"You really don't get it, do you?" The blonde latter stood up in a hasty manner too. "I think, no, I know that I was sent for this matter! Else why would I grow into a human body all of a sudden? Why'd God give me a new name, those identification papers like a human? Wouldn't it be more convenient if I just stayed as a palm sized fairy?"
He said it all in one breath then calmed down by himself. "I'm surprised why I haven't thought about this sooner," he mumbled.
His logic was pretty good, believable too. But you also had your own logic. "It's not easy I'm just-"
"You wanted a boyfriend and that's why I'm here so."
"So what Taehyung?" This time you felt a little angry. "Eitherway you get your job done and go back to heaven. Be it being my boyfriend or helping me find one. So shouldn't I help myself in that matter? In the end wouldn't it be again same as before?"
Your words made him stop and stare at you with his meaningful eyes. But you didn't wait for the discussion to go on. Holding on the strap of your bag tightly, you left the apartment. But you only heard him say from behind,
"Or maybe I could let you feel loved for the first time even if it's for a short while."
He didn't know. Your parents loved; still loves you too. But their love for you wasn't enough to find their own happiness. So all those events fall back in one result anyway, you feeling lonely.
Though you didn't let it get to your head and practically ran your way to the bus stop. You were earlier than other days and that made you feel accomplished. Since the quick calculation in your mind resolved into you finally being able to return the books to the library, take classes and get to your job at the cafe without being a second late.
Huffing and puffing after your marathon back at here you looked at your watch, five minutes until the bus reaches. And then you looked to your side which made your eyes fly up to your forehead.
Taehyung was standing there with a smile plastered on his face. With the purple tee and white trousers you had him left back at home.
Do you think about him that much that you were hallucinating about him too? Quickly you blinked your eyes a few times but the realistic hologram of him was still there.
"You looked pretty angry so I followed you here to see if you could reach your college alright." He grinned making his mouth boxlike again.
Oh no. This was real.
"What?" You were louder than you thought you'd be. And he moved his head back with the loudness.
"You seem angrier now. Did I make a mistake?"
"You should've stayed at home Tae! How are you going to back now?" You spoke angrily but he wasn't bothered.
"Well you didn't tell me to stay at home." For the first time you saw him scrunching up his eyebrows a little. "And I can go back the way I came."
"Oh really?" You crossed your arms over your chest. You'd bet on your three dollars that he had already forgotten his way to here.
"Ooh what is that? A giant green bus!" His annoyed expression was gone now that the bus had stopped before you. Flocks of people started to come down and his opened mouth only got wider and wider. "You go to college in that? Wow now I want to too!"
Without minding his sheer excitement you went ahead and lightly pushed him a little forward. "Let's get you back home."
"You aren't going?" He looked at the bus and then back at you. "I can go back myself though."
"Yeah, sure. Let's find out about that." You started walking and a few seconds later he ran up next to you. But then he took a few steps forward and started leading the way.
Confident aren't we? You could only sneer by yourself.
But opposed to your expectation, he was actually going the right way. You kept telling yourself that soon he'd be lost or take a wrong turn because that's what you did when you first moved here too. There's no way he'd learn the way in one go. Especially when all the narrow streets looked alike.
Adding water to your thoughts you were right back in front of your apartment in twelve minutes, with Taehyung standing there with his legs apart, hands on his hips.
You just lost that three dollars to yourself.
And you were also late.
So much for thinking that for the first time you'd be in time for everything. "Good job. I am sorry for not trusting your ability," you said hurriedly. "But I'm also late so you can confront me about that later."
With that you ran but a few steps ahead you stopped and looked back again. "Stay at home or I take back your outfits," shouting that to a bewildered Taehyung you continued running for your life.
***
You weren't saved of course.
Being late as usual to your work made the manager scold you like every other day. Only this time you were late to your class too. And thinking about it all getting down from the bus as you were showered with exhaustion might have made God want to make things spicier, again.
Because as soon as you got down with the other passengers it started raining without a single sign beforehand. Your whole body perking up with water pouring over you, it took you a second to realize it was rain not some person pouring ice bucket on you. And with that realization you only cursed at the weather forecast for not saying anything about the rain and ran to the bus stop before you could get fully drenched.
All the other passengers were gone too. God damn, was it only you going outside unprepared for the sudden rain.
Looking at the rain pour in cats and dogs you sighed defeated. Still sulky but that wasn't gonna help. After having a long day at college and work you didn't want to get home drenched. You couldn't be sick, you had classes and work again tomorrow.
Life just sucks, doesn't it? You might've cried the other day but was getting a boyfriend really going to solve problems like this?
Staring at the rain you could only think about pointless stuff as you chewed on your inner cheek.
"S-sarang," you heard a familiar deep voice and immediately you snapped back from your thoughts.
As if it was a dream you saw Taehyung drenched from head to toe in the rain, holding a umbrella and walking towards the stop with a smile. The moment he walked up close to you, you realized how much he was shaking in the cold rain.
"Oh my god!" You couldn't help but gasp a little. Holding his arms and the boy was freezing. "Tae, why- why did you come here!"
"You didn't have an umbrella when you left. And you weren't coming home so I figured you'd be stuck." His deep voice was trembling a little too. But what was surprising that even with that all a gentle smile was still plastered on his face.
"But I couldn't unfold this umbrella so-" he handed you the pink umbrella.
Of course he couldn't. It was jammed but you got the heck of it so you didn't decide to buy a new one for months.
"Let me do that for you." You unfolded the umbrella and held it over your heads after getting close to him. And you looked at his eyes with your worried ones. You could still see water dripping from his blonde locks that were stuck to his forehead.
"Let's get you home. You're gonna need a warm bath, change your cloths soon so you don't get a cold." Sighing you held his arm under the umbrella and started walking.
"I already feel warm now that you're close to me," the latter only said with a soft giggle.
Maybe, just maybe a boyfriend could solve some problem. Maybe not solve it but at least, feeling loved would make it easier to go through the pain in your day to day life.
With the sudden thought of Taehyung being your boyfriend made you feel weird. But also his last remark was causing your heart to beat the loudest it had ever.
