~~~~~
Seokjin truly tries his best.
When it came to being the best son he could be, he kept his grades up as well as possible and he decided to take up acting to make his family proud. He tried his best with that, but then ended up trying ten times as hard after the day he was accepted to be a trainee at Bighit Entertainment.
He tried his damndest when they told him to take vocal and dancing lessons. He worked his ass off and forced himself to endure the hardship and pain along with around thirty other people— but he tried so hard that he ended up debuting in BTS, which led to him trying harder than he's ever done in his entire life.
He'd tried his best for well over half of his life and he wouldn't stop now.
It's years later now and Seokjin just wants to settle down.
Something like a reward.
"I'm meeting up with an old friend today," he randomly announces to the two sitting in the living room with him— Jimin and Jungkook.
Jimin didn't really seem to care much, hardly raising his head to acknowledge him, but Jungkook raised his head and kept his eyes on him. He was probably wondering either why Seokjin was suddenly telling them this or he was stunned by the fact that Seokjin was going out to meet someone.
"An old friend?" he soon questions, cocking his eyebrow. It doesn't take long at all before he's prying himself off the other end of the couch and then sits between Seokjin and Jimin, his knee brushing against Seokjin's. "Thought we were hanging out today, hyung. That's the only reason I'm here right now. You promised we'd cook tonight." His lips form a frown and it makes Seokjin frown as well.
He had promised Jungkook that they'd cook together because they were both tired of ordering takeout and wanted homemade food. However, Seokjin had either forgotten or just didn't care— and it wasn't the latter, though Jungkook's frown made it seem like so.
"I forgot," Seokjin lets out apologetically, then also gives a sorried smile as Jungkook looks up at him. "I'm sorry. I didn't know we were actually going to cook. I didn't know we were doing it today either..?"
Were they supposed to? He hardly remembers saying so.
They had talked about it nearly a week ago, so he sort of pushed it to the back of his mind somewhere and it got lost between schedules and practices. He didn't mean to forget, but did they ever set a date to do so? He can't remember discussing a certain date or time.
"We'll do it next time, Jungkook-ah."
"Who are you going to meet?" Jungkook asks curiously, nibbling at his lower lip as he waits for an answer. "What old friend are you talking about?"
An old friend.
Park Hyeji. Seokjin knows her from years back, when he had first joined Bighit for auditions. They'd met each other and were friends just before Seokjin had to start focusing more as a trainee and they fell off, never having the chance to contact each other again.
Seokjin's plan was to find the perfect person. The most perfect: probably at least funny enough to make him laugh every once in a while, really pretty, and preferably someone who isn't extremely extroverted because he is not up for adventures and going places— he's more up for cuddling at home and sharing kisses than going out and doing things in crowded places.
His plan was to find someone to settle down with.
He'd been fine with his members' love for this long, but he's ready for real love to bloom and hands to hold. He's ready for nice, sweet kisses and winter cuddling by the fireplace with soft wintery music in their ears and even softer kisses on each other's foreheads.
He's ready for romance.
It's no secret to the boys that their shared dorm contract is ending soon and that they'll all be living on their own. Seokjin wants to at least think about finding a lover to spend time with and love. So, he answers:
"Hyeji."
"Hyeji?" Jimin suddenly speaks up now. He's looking over at them, his head tilted slightly. "Who the heck is Hyeji? You've never talked about anyone with that name before." He- as blunt as ever- raises a questioning eyebrow at Seokjin. Seokjin merely shrugs.
"I know. I never said that you guys know her. We're just going out for lunch as old friends and nothing more... for now."
Both Jimin and Jungkook's eyes widen, but only Jimin lets out a surprised chuckle. "Hyung, do you have a crush on her or something? I don't think I've ever even seen you go on a date before, come to think of it."
Jungkook is quiet.
Again, Seokjin shrugs just before leaving Jungkook's side, standing up to look down at them.
"We're getting too personal now—"
"Since when do we care about getting personal?" Jungkook then mutters, furrowing his eyebrows up at the oldest. "So? Are you seriously going on a date, hyung? With an old friend?"
"I mean... It's not a date, though."
Jungkook's chuckle was breathier and more like a scoff than Jimin's was— maybe it was a scoff. "If it's not a date then what if I just tag along, hm? Since you plan on leaving me to starve tonight."
Firstly, Seokjin didn't plan on letting him starve ever.
Secondly, Seokjin had no idea why Jungkook was saying these things. Sure, he can be a brat sometimes or even most times, but that's usually with a smile on his face and twinkling eyes. He has neither of those visible on his face as of right now.
He's so used to seeing Jungkook's big grin and having him teasingly laugh. Now, he's not so sure what to think as Jungkook stares up at him with his brows furrowed, sharper than he remembers, and his lips pressed into a thin line. He looks unamused.
"Um. Is it even appropriate for you to tag along with me, Jungkook?"
"Why not?" Jungkook asks him. "You said she's just a friend to you. Besides, I'm hungry and bored."
Jungkook didn't seem to understand Seokjin's intentions like Jimin had. He didn't seem to catch on to the fact that Seokjin was going to ease her into the thought of dating him, hoping that today would let her see him in a different light if he flirted with her or hinted at being single.
Jungkook didn't care to catch the hint.
"I'll be nice," he promises and then finally gives Seokjin a little closed-mouth smile. "Can I come with?"
Seokjin has never been able to say no to Jungkook.
Since the moment they formed as a group, Seokjin had babied Jungkook the most out of all of them— and as the oldest, as the hyung, he naturally took it upon himself to stay by the maknae's side and make sure their friendship would be one hard to top. He wanted the youngest to like him no matter what it took to do so.
And now everyone tells them how cute it is. They tell them that it's surprising how they get along so well, or how incredible their relationship is. They talk about how cool it is that Seokjin doesn't treat the members as anything other than equals, or how fun he seems.
Seokjin tries to be fun and he loves being playful with Jungkook. He loves the maknae being by his side.
But the thought of having Jungkook coming with him to have a meal with a potential lover— a meal that was supposed to be just the two of them— really didn't seem appropriate to Seokjin. He'd have to call Hyeji and ask her if it's okay that he tags along and he'd probably end up paying for Jungkook's meal as well as hers— yes, he planned on paying for her.
It's not that he doesn't want to hang out with Jungkook, but this is different.
"Jungkook-ah..."
Seokjin has never been able to say no to Jungkook.
Today, he'd have to.
"I'm sorry. I'll bring you some food back," he mumbles almost too quietly. Judging by Jungkook's face dropping and Jimin's eyes averting from the situation, they heard him well enough. "If you're bored then just get Jimin to do something with you. He looks bored too."
"Yeah." Jimin nudges the youngest, who sits back and turns his head to him. The youngest looked uninterested, but Jimin was still saving Seokjin with this. "Come on, we can go cook something with just the two of us. We don't need this guy." He gestured to Seokjin, who was suddenly wondering if he should feel relieved or offended.
Still, he ended up going on the lunch 'date' without Jungkook, even if he felt bad and thought about it more than half the time he was sitting across from the short-haired girl.
Their meetup was nice and chill, just like how they were years ago; just friends. They didn't click well as anything more than that, but now Seokjin knows. That's all he needed to know. He learned that this quest to find a partner wouldn't be easy, but he's still going to go for it.
He'll find the perfect match sooner or later.
———
The next time Seokjin found someone to meet with, it was a date.
He'd met a staff woman at one of the award shows— he can't remember which one— and she was really nice and pretty, also in her lower twenties, which meant she was pretty young as well.
He saw her a few days ago. It was pure coincidence that he ran into her at the convenience store near the Hybe building, but he took the chance and ended up getting her number, smiling to himself as he saw her blush, flustered at the whole conversation.
It was a few days later that he texted her and she was the one who asked him out eventually, after their small talk and his occasional winky face emoji.
Sure, he was surprised that she had been so blunt to ask him out, but he was even more surprised as he was sitting at the table they'd reserved and, from out of the corner of his eye, he saw a familiar face walk into the restaurant.
"Hyung?"
Seokjin couldn't hear it, but he sees the shock on Jungkook's face within his wide, confused eyes, and his gawk after he mouths the word to himself.
"Oh my gosh," Seokjin lets out. The girl- Eunji- turns her head to the entrance and her mouth opens as well once she realizes that Jeon Jungkook is walking towards their table. With stunned eyes as well, Seokjin watches.
"I didn't know you were here," says Jungkook as he steps up to their table.
Jungkook's friends who had come in with him were now abandoned and left to be taken to their table by themselves, but Jungkook apparently finds interest in talking to Seokjin instead— which isn't so bad. It's kind of funny to see him here unexpectedly.
"I'm on a date," Seokjin tells him with a short laugh. Jungkook's eyes scan over Eunji. Her lips are sealed shut quickly because of the way Jungkook looks her up and down, then hums.
"Is this the girl you went out with the other day?"
Seokjin's mouth drops. "I— That was just a friend, I told you! Jungkook-ah, stop trying to make me look bad." The older pouts as he looks back and forth between the two. Eunji is frowning, confused, and Jungkook is devilish as he smiles down at him.
"It's just a question. So, this isn't her?" He looks closely at her. "Who are you then? Why are you on a date?"
It was such an awful question that Seokjin nearly wanted to smack the back of the maknae's head for saying anything. "Jungkook-ah. This is Eunji." Seokjin tries to ignore the fact that Jungkook wanders off behind him and drapes his arms over his shoulders. He can't see Jungkook from this angle and all he can feel is hands on his body.
Unsurprisingly, Seokjin's ears start turning red and hot as Jungkook curls his finger under the fabric of the top button of his shirt— which he had purposely left undone to show off a bit of his chest, but now Jungkook is playing with the skin there and all Seokjin can see is the way Eunji looks up with her eyes only, probably not even noticing how she lowers her head.
"Has hyung treated you well on this date, noona?" Jungkook asks, his voice laced with that same devilish tone. "You know, I've eaten like this with hyung a lot. We come to this restaurant all the time."
They do.
Seokjin always finds himself feeding Jungkook lots of rolls and he eats enough meat for the both of them. They're always like that. But today was not one of those days. Today was his and Eunji's day.
So what is Jungkook doing right now?
"Jungkook-ah," he tries to warn him, but the youngest's tattooed hand presses firmly into his chest and he hums in confusion.
"What? It was just a question." Jungkook's hand slowly moves to Seokjin's neck and he rubs there, almost like he's trying to reassure that he's only talking to Eunji with pure intentions, but the things he says, like "Is hyung treating you well?" seems not-so-pure and it definitely isn't helping Seokjin in any way possible.
"He is," Eunji eventually tells Jungkook, but her voice is a bit too quiet. Her shoulder-length hair is straight and it falls even in the air as she tilts her head down, hiding her face with the strands. "The food here is really nice. Oppa told me it would be. I guess you two must have a lot of fun here, huh?"
Seokjin pouts in defeat as Jungkook pats his shoulders and then moves over to her, humming a small mhm before he leans down closer to her ear. Suddenly he's whispering something into her ear and she's got her eyes wide open and set on Seokjin as he does. Also suddenly, Seokjin feels like he should knock Jungkook in his head again.
What is he saying to her?
Seokjin never got the answer to that because Jungkook simply pulls away from her and winks at Seokjin, smiling away. "I'll see you at home, hyung. Have fun on your cute little date. I'm going back to the boys now."
Jungkook was gone before he knew it and all he was left with was Eunji staring silently at her plate and a strong sinking feeling in his gut.
"What did he say to you?" he eventually asks her.
"Ah... Nothing important, really. Just told me to have fun."
It sounds like a lie. It is a lie.
But for now, Seokjin just ignores it and hopes that Jungkook didn't say anything too crazy. He wasn't sure why Jungkook even said anything at all; was he just trying to sabotage him or something? After years and years of being friends, bandmates, and housemates— he decides now is the time to be a brat?
What was the reason?
———
Seokjin waited and waited.
Around the dorm, Jungkook had started to act a bit quieter than usual and also odd around him. And on Seokjin's phone, he had received a few dry texts from Eunji, which would soon turn into no replies at all.
Something tells him that there is a specific reason for it, but he doesn't want to accuse a certain person for their fallout just yet because that certain person has had a bounce in his step all day and he'd had so much energy on stage, so he didn't want to bring it up on today of all days.
Instead, he lets this certain person fool around with him by play fighting and they laugh throughout the night after eating dinner— they'd just finished a concert and they went back to Seokjin's hotel room, eating the meals their company had sent to them earlier.
As night settles in and Seokjin yawns for a fourth time, Jungkook nearly drags the older to the bed and teases him by tucking him into the blanket like a kid, a big smile on his face.
"This is how it should be," Jungkook mutters after tucking his fingers under Seokjin's leg one last time. "Gotta take care of my hyung."
Seokjin has no clue what Jungkook is talking about, but he merely closes his eyes and yawns one more time before he starts drifting off to sleep.
It's no surprise when he wakes up the next morning with his arms wrapped lazily around the maknae's slim waist and his face snuggled under his chin— they sleep together all the time.
What is slightly new is that Jungkook is already awake and he's brushing a single finger back and forth against Seokjin's back. It feels calming, so Seokjin snuggles in closer and hopes he can sleep for a bit longer like this.
And he does.
———
It's a cold winter day during the group's break time. Seokjin knows that this break before their concert in a few months will be the perfect time to go all out on his current plan.
Except this time he wanted to try something a little different.
Instead of searching for a possible girlfriend, he decided to let his curious brain and Yoongi's overly encouraging words guide him to a bar where men of all sorts were looking for the same thing— someone.
Seokjin didn't tell Yoongi that he was going to a bar to look for men, but Yoongi also never told him where he should look to experiment like this.
Here's the thing— Seokjin has always liked men and he knew that.
But unlike Yoongi who got to experiment and know exactly what it is he wanted before their debut, Seokjin never got to think about much other than work, work, work. Now, though, after a few years into BTS, he got to think about himself and what he likes and wants. In reality, Seokjin likes what he likes and there's no real label to it, but also in reality, he knows he likes men in the mix of those unlabeled feelings.
So yeah, he finds himself at a bar on a late Saturday evening. And yeah, he finds his heart racing as he scans over the attractive men on the floor or even at the bar Seokjin's sat at.
He has alcohol in his system and he hopes nobody recognizes him as Jin of BTS right now. He just wants to be seen as Kim Seokjin who happens to be in a bar looking for some destiny.
Seokjin frowns, however, when destiny decides that his phone should start ringing right now of all times. He picks his phone out of his jacket pocket and huffs as he sees Jungkook's name on the screen.
"Jungkook-ah?" He takes another gulp or two of his drink, feeling the burn down his throat. "Why are you calling?"
"Where are you? What's that awful music?" Jungkook asks before he answers Seokjin's question, "I called because I wanted to see if you were at your apartment. Um. Yoongi hyung said you had some sort of hard drive of his?"
The hard drive Yoongi gave Seokjin the other day to look through a few of the songs. He'd taken it home with him to listen.
"Yoongi wants it back right now?"
"I can go get it," Jungkook mutters through the phone. "I have a key, remember?"
It was a weakness of Bangtan to always allow Jungkook in their personal space whether it be their bed, their studio, their apartment, or even their arms for cuddles. And at any given chance, Jungkook will show up and he'll use this advantage.
"Okay, yeah. I'm not there. You can just go get it and take it to him, right?" Seokjin asks, then turns his head as someone takes a seat next to him. It's a man that looks maybe a bit older than Seokjin and he's got a nice side profile, a handsome face, and a sharp look in his eyes. "Good? I gotta go now," Seokjin says before he hangs up on the younger.
"You're staring," the guy next to him says just before turning to him, smirking. Seokjin's heart races more. "What's such a cute thing like you doing here all alone? What's your name?"
Seokjin takes another swig at his drink. "Kim Seokjin," he proudly says. The alcohol feels good as well as being called cute.
"Ah. I thought you looked familiar." The guy leans a bit closer to him. "You're a lot prettier in person. How 'bout I buy you a few drinks, Kim Seokjin?"
"Drinks, hm? You haven't even told me your name yet." And Seokjin already has a few in his system. Would it be okay to drink so much? Maybe just one or two more, but that's his limit tonight.
"My name is Dongcheol, love. But you can just call me yours tonight."
Dongcheol winks at Seokjin, and he should probably think twice before he lets this man buy him drinks and let this guy flirt harder than anyone's ever flirted with him before, but he doesn't. Seokjin just has a good little time with the stranger. And after so many drinks are let into his body, the man gradually leads Seokjin to the bar's restroom.
Seokjin should've known better than to let a stranger at a bar kiss him, too. But Dongcheol's lips were fast on his and the alcohol made Seokjin relax into the wall he had pressed him against.
Kissing is fine, but it's not until Dongcheol tries to slip his fingers into Seokjin's pants to grab his ass that Seokjin pulls away from the kiss.
"Too much," he lets out, but Dongcheol kisses his neck instead.
"Why too much?" he whispers between sloppy pecks on Seokjin's reddening skin. Dongcheol smells like alcohol and suddenly Seokjin doesn't feel the alcohol in him like he did before. He feels sober again.
"Because you're still a stranger."
Annoyed, Seokjin tugs Dongcheol's hands up by his wrists, forcing his hands to stay on his waist instead, but those hands fall right back down— at least this time not trying to touch his bare ass, but it's still his ass nonetheless!
"Do you not understand? Stop trying to get in my pants. It's not gonna happen." Seokjin finally nudges the man off of his neck. Dongcheol furrows his brows down at him, frustrated with his sigh.
"Thought that's what you wanted."
Seokjin also sighs. "I don't do one-night stands. I've got to know you before we do anything like that—"
"Well that's not what I want, though."
As if he wasn't already annoyed, Seokjin feels much more irritated as Dongcheol keeps talking. "I don't care what you want. Go find someone else if you want a one-time thing. Not me."
"Fine."
When he walks out the door, Dongcheol is fast and fierce with his steps.
When Seokjin calls for a ride to go home, he feels icky.
He'd never felt so wanted yet so unwanted in his life. All he wanted was someone to fall in love with him and someone he could cherish for the rest of his life— while also being sexually involved, yes, but not only that; he didn't want a one-time fuck in a bar. That guy was fucking nuts.
But Seokjin should've known by the seductive looks he was giving him and the way he spoke to him that it was pure lust and nothing more.
Seokjin just wants to be loved.
As he walks into his apartment all alone, he lets out a sigh into the cold air for what feels like the hundredth time tonight. He doesn't want to be alone in this apartment anymore. He wants the white walls and white decor to be combined with someone else's taste as well. He wants to share this home with the person of his life.
Maybe it is hopeless after all.
But when he starts walking to his bedroom, he notices something on his kitchen counter out of the corner of his eye.
For a moment, he just stands there and stares.
There, on the polished white counter, is a little pink basket. It's such a soft pastel pink color and it has a few things arranged in it. The first thing he notices is the brown teddy bear right in the middle, and then there's two bags of gummy bears on each side of the stuffed animal, a little pink card set beside the bear, and a small glass vase with tiny white flowers next to the basket.
Who in the world..?
Curiosity gets the best of him even if he's exhausted by tonight's events. He walks up to the basket and immediately goes for the card.
The card also has flowers on it and it says something about love, but Seokjin opens it quickly just to see who brought this basket here. But the only thing written in ink on the inside is 'When will it be my turn?'
No name.
And Seokjin didn't have enough energy to really think about who could've possibly put this here. Instead he takes the teddy bear out and heads sluggishly to his bedroom, planning to cuddle the stuffed animal since he had nobody else to.
———
He decided to try again with Hyeji.
Jungkook, however, decided that he would not.
"You don't have to go on all these dates," Jungkook calmly tells him— maybe it was what he wanted to tell Seokjin the first time. "You're worrying over the wrong things right now, hyung. You can't force love." And maybe he was right, or maybe he wasn't. Seokjin would never know. All he knew was that dating isn't working but he still wants to try. "You can just fall in love with someone you already know or let it happen naturally, hyung. What's the rush?"
Seokjin rested his head against the couch and groaned.
He and Jungkook were the only two in the dorms and he should've known that asking the first person he saw for advice wouldn't go well— especially not Jungkook, who hadn't been on many dates at all or maybe never.
"I just want to settle down and be loved. I'm just gonna ask her out. That's what I'll do. I'll man up and do it."
But as he went to take his phone out of his pocket, Jungkook set his hand on his arm and kept him from doing so. "You don't have to man up." Slowly, Jungkook pulled the older's hand away from his phone. "You even said it didn't go well with her the first time, right? You don't like her, hyung."
"I could like her, though."
Jungkook rolls his eyes like it's nothing. "Don't be so pushy towards yourself. Just... look for someone who likes you instead of trying to force it. You don't have to go on a million dates."
"But I do, Jungkook-ah." Seokjin frowns at him. "I do want someone who likes me for me. That's the whole point of this."
"There's most likely someone out there who likes you for you already," says Jungkook in a quiet voice. "Besides, how many people have you tried already? And none of them went well?"
Seokjin counted on his fingers. "Hyeji was more of a friend and we didn't click like that. Eunji was my best bet, but then she suddenly started being dry with me and then ghosted me not even a week after that. I tried to flirt with some girl at a cafe but failed miserably. Dongcheol was a hot jerk who just wanted sex—"
"Who?"
Jungkook looks at him in confusion.
Right.
"I met some guy at a bar and he flirted a lot, even kissed me, but all he wanted was sex— I didn't give it to him, don't look at me like that." Jungkook had a stern look in his eyes, his jaw clenched, and his eyes not blinking once as he listened. "That was just the other day."
"You kissed a guy at the bar?" Jungkook questions him. "I didn't know you liked guys. You've never mentioned this before."
"Didn't think it was relevant to bring up."
Jungkook shrugs to himself. "I think it could've been relevant in some way. Maybe I would've asked you out on a date before you started this whole dating thing if I had known."
Seokjin's brain feels like plastic.
Their conversation was smoothly flowing, but Jungkook's last words took a moment to register in Seokjin's head. He almost thinks he was hearing things, but Jungkook's averting his eyes and he's still sat there speechless, knowing damn well he heard right.
"Why..." Seokjin swallows the words before they can come out. "You would've asked me out on a date..? Why?"
An exhausted sigh leaves Jungkook's parted lips. "You've been trying to get others to love you while I'm sitting right here, hyung." He turns to Seokjin and gives him a weak smile. "But it's okay. I'm sorry. I'll try not to be jealous anymore—"
"What are you saying, Jungkook-ah?" You..? Jealous? Is that why you've been clinging to me these past few weeks?"
Seokjin hardly realized until now that it was jealousy that had Jungkook acting so weird lately.
When he'd go to the company building, Jungkook suddenly started riding with him. Sometimes when they'd go to practice, Jungkook kept holding Seokjin and not letting him go anywhere else to rest unless he was there right beside him. Every time he'd try to go on a date, Jungkook had something (probably involuntarily) negative to say about the people he'd never met before.
Just like now, with Jungkook telling Seokjin to stop trying to force love, or that he shouldn't push himself, or there's probably someone out there who already likes him.
Suddenly Seokjin feels numb.
If he says someone is out there that may already like him, if he's jealous, if Jungkook would ask him on a date—
"Do you like me?!"
Jungkook frowns upon hearing the confusion and shock in Seokjin's voice. "I'm sorry. I tried to hint to you when I brought you that basket and the flowers, but you didn't mention it so I just figured you knew I liked you by now and you were just.... not into men. Or me."
The basket and flowers.
And the teddy bear that Seokjin had started sleeping with this entire week now.
"You were the one who left that there?" Seokjin asks in a small voice. "I just thought it was another gift from a fan or something. You didn't put your name on it.."
"I—" Jungkook's body melts into the couch. "I left it when I got Yoongi hyung's hard drive. I thought you'd know it was me who put it there." His frown becomes deeper. "I just want you to feel loved, hyung, but not with anybody else. You keep trying to find someone to love you, but I do. I already do."
Seokjin is shocked, but his heart swells as he looks at Jungkook's furrowed brows and now closed, tight eyes.
He could never say no.
"Do you really wanna take hyung on a date?" he cautiously asks. Jungkook's eyes reopen and his expression softens as their eyes meet. He's silent. "Well? Do you?"
Jungkook quickly nods. "But would you even like me like that? What would be the point in going on a date if you don't like me?"
"Well." Seokjin lets out a soft laugh. "Just because you say dating is a waste of time doesn't mean I was going to quit trying, you jealous brat." Jungkook huffs at the name, but Seokjin laughs again. "Besides, I could see myself liking dating you more than anyone else, so yeah. Show me just how much you want me to feel loved and... I bet it wouldn't take long before you'd have my heart. You already do, anyway."
Because Jungkook is good at everything and Seokjin was positive that he could love him back— he wouldn't mention the amount of times recently that he'd dreamt about Jungkook's muscles or his tattoos in a very non-platonic way; that was totally irrelevant as of now.
So, he accepts Jungkook's date.
———
Their first date is kept as a secret from the other members. Just for now- in case it's a disaster or something- they decide that keeping it to themselves would be okay for a while.
But disasters don't go like this.
Seokjin's heart wasn't racing fast unlike with all the other dates or with the people he had flirted with. He was calm and they were both patient with their soft smiles every once in a while— across the table from each other at the fanciest restaurant ever (Jungkook's doing) and especially as Jungkook brushed his foot against his under the table.
Disasters don't come with loving smiles or the soft, snug beating of someone's heart.
Disasters don't end with coming home together and deciding to end the day with cuddles— which Seokjin so desperately wanted but didn't ever want to ask for, even if the members would totally let him. They wouldn't cuddle Seokjin in the way he wanted to be.
But Jungkook...
They'd cuddled many times before, but tonight was different.
Tonight Jungkook wrapped his arms around Seokjin and pulled him into his chest. Tonight Seokjin's heart fluttered with every time Jungkook teasingly pressed his nose to his or every time Jungkook's lips would brush against his hair— his head or forehead. Tonight his heart and soul felt incredible when Jungkook finally did kiss his forehead.
"I wanna cuddle you forever."
Seokjin can't hold back his smile anymore. It feels so right. "You can."
———
Their next few dates seemed like a miracle to Seokjin. Out of the people he'd gone on dates with or met before, they hadn't made it past any certain stages of dating; they only went on a date or two and then drifted apart.
Jeon Jungkook would never let them drift apart and neither would Seokjin. He felt too lost in the moment to let it go.
Dinner dates, casual lunch dates, hanging out at either of their apartments or at the dorms, and even so shyly holding hands or caressing each other until they fall asleep. It felt like his and Jungkook's relationship had amplified— because these were almost all normal things they usually do, except now Jungkook likes to kiss his head and play with his fingers a lot. He likes to praise Seokjin and smile sweetly at him.
Seokjin doesn't know how he never saw it before.
Jeon Jungkook is so in love with him.
He looks at Seokjin like he's the only person in the room and he treats Seokjin so carefully, probably afraid that at any moment this would all fade away and Seokjin would leave him hanging— the same kind of fear that Seokjin had with those other people he dated.
"Just so you know," Seokjin eventually told him as he was thinking about it, "I'm not treating you like some kind of trial run, Jungkook. I'm here to stay."
That night was the night that Jungkook took Seokjin's hands in his and pulled the older's hands around his neck, then placed his own hands on Seokjin's waist. That night was the first time Jungkook didn't seem so unsure— the first time Jungkook felt confident enough to pull Seokjin in and press their lips together, the both of them melting into the kiss.
That night was the first time Seokjin and Jungkook kissed.
———
"You what?!"
All the members are gathered here.
Jungkook wraps his arms around Seokjin's waist and rests his chin on his shoulder from behind. "We've been dating for a few weeks," he repeats to the others. And if Seokjin had to guess the look on his face, he was most likely smiling cheekily at either Hoseok or Taehyung— the two who had the most shocked expressions— or Namjoon, who probably had a million thoughts running in that lovely head of his.
"A few weeks?!" Jimin speaks up. He's got wide eyes as well, but he soon furrows his eyebrows and pouts up at the couple, pointing his finger at Jungkook. "You lied to me! I asked you if you liked hyung months ago!"
A soft laugh leaves Jungkook and it echoes into Seokjin's ear so amazingly. Jungkook's laughter just means so much to him.
"You would've teased me if I told you. Aren't you guys happy for us~?"
The boys all nod and Hoseok places a hand each on Seokjin and Jungkook's cheeks. "You two are so cute! I can't believe this is real. I'm so happy for you guys."
Seokjin's eyes flutter closed as Jungkook's arms tighten around his waist. He's happy for himself as well. Jungkook feels like home and it's no exaggeration because he's always thought that with all the members— but Jungkook is a different type of home, he's learned.
He likes this new home.
———
They were on a date at the restaurant they'd always gone to.
It wasn't overly fancy, but it served nice and delicious food— including seafood and regular meat. He and Jungkook always share a dessert by the end unless they physically can't, and today was one of those days where they could. They shared a strawberry cake and soon after, they'd make their way out of the restaurant and to a little shop Seokjin had asked if they could go to.
The shop has lots of cutesy things in it and it also has anime and gaming merch, which is basically a store made for Kim Seokjin.
Shopping together was going so well with the two joking around and brushing gentle arms, but it was shortly interrupted by a young woman who was shopping as well.
"Excuse me." She looks right into Seokjin's eyes, though she's short. "Y-You're really handsome."
A bit surprised, Seokjin looks over at Jungkook, but then he slightly bows his head to her. "Thank you so much."
A protective hand is suddenly wrapping around Seokjin's waist. "Yeah, he's really handsome. Are you an army?" Jungkook points to her bag and sure enough, there's a little RJ keychain hanging there. The girl blushes and hides the keychain.
"Y-Yes. I'm sorry, I'll leave you alone. Have a nice day!"
She hurries off before either of them can say anything and Jungkook keeps his hand on Seokjin's waist. Seokjin doesn't even get to say anything to Jungkook before the youngest leans into his ear.
"You're mine. Hope she knows that," he whispers.
Seokjin shudders.
He likes it. He likes the feeling of Jungkook so close to his ear and he likes how possessive he talks, loving the fact that he is indeed Jeon Jungkook's and nobody else's. Maybe he shouldn't, but he loves it.
He loves it so much that he brings it back up at his apartment, where Jungkook took them to and where they were lying on his bed in their pajamas, probably a little too risky of a place to tempt Jungkook.
"Jungkookie," he calls out. Jungkook turns his head to him, humming a little yes? "Do you really think that army from earlier wants me? She thinks I'm handsome. What would you have done if she asked me out right then? Hm?"
For a moment, Jungkook's eyes are blank. He blinks a few times in thought.
"What would you..." Jungkook turns onto his side and looks Seokjin in the eye. It's different from his usual look. It's almost daring. "What would you want me to do, hyung?"
He's asking for consent, so Seokjin gives it, "I'd want you to wrap your arms around me—" He takes Jungkook's arm and places it on his waist again, then moves closer to him until they're brushing lips— "and show her who I belong to, Jungkook-ah."
Jungkook's fingers dig into his side.
"Hyung."
"What?" Seokjin gives him an innocent look. "Don't wanna?"
Before he can hardly finish, Jungkook sits up and wraps his fingers around Seokjin's wrists, then turns him onto his back, pinning his hands above his head and looking down into his now eager eyes.
"You are mine," Jungkook says before stooping in and connecting their lips, stealing a muffled and unexpected moan from Seokjin's mouth.
His kisses are firm and slow, Seokjin has learned already, but it never fails to amaze him when Jungkook slides his tongue in and makes him shudder from his toes to his neck. It never fails to make Seokjin feel so needy, but this is the first time they're going through with it.
Jungkook pushes the shirt on Seokjin's tummy up and to his neck, then slides down between Seokjin's legs to attach his lips to his nipples instead, a low moan in his throat as Seokjin bucks up into him.
"God, Jungkook," Seokjin mutters breathlessly as Jungkook teases with his tongue, flicking it around his nipple. He can almost feel the smirk on Jungkook's lips, especially as the younger presses his palm to Seokjin's dick and massages him below.
Seokjin wants to both sink into the mattress and pull himself off of it to jump on top of Jungkook and take what he wants, but Jungkook has him pinned with his body and there's no way he'd stop what they're doing right now.
"Here."
Jungkook pulls away from palming him and away from his chest so that he can lift two fingers up to Seokjin's mouth, the pads of his fingers pressing against his lips until Seokjin is taking a hint and opening up, soon coating those two fingers with saliva as he pushes his pants off of himself.
He's free of his pants and underwear now and when Jungkook pulls his wet fingers out of his mouth, he tugs the bottom of Seokjin's shirt up to his lips instead and tells him to keep it between his teeth, to which he obeyed.
The lift of his shirt exposed his tummy and chest, his hard nipples on display now. Jungkook also lowers his hand to his ass and gets ready to give him what he wants. He feels exposed in every way possible and it feels so good.
It felt too good, wrapping his legs around Jungkook's waist and breathing out shakily as those wet fingers finally press up against his hole.
"All mine," Jungkook whispers as he slips in one finger and continues to slide it in and out slowly. "Gonna make you mine tonight, hyung."
Seokjin's hole clenches at Jungkook's words and he rocks his hips needily onto his finger. "Yes, please. Make me yours, Jungkookie."
He's never seen Jungkook's eyes so dilated or focused. He's never felt so in love with the way someone so tenderly treats him— the way Jungkook is slowly giving in and hushing him softly when he pushes another finger in.
And he toys with Seokjin too, holding the older's hips down and curling his fingers up to a spot that makes Seokjin's head push into the pillow below him.
And he teases Seokjin with the way he scissors his fingers open to stretch him, the way his lips ghost along his chest, and the way he deliberately slows down to ease his own shirt off, revealing his toned abs and hard muscles. Seokjin can only swallow back the drool daring to slip out his mouth as Jungkook unties his sweatpants and slides them down with one hand, more and more skin revealing before he finally pulls the pants down over his dick.
It's hard already and it's slim and long in comparison to Seokjin's thick, shorter one. He really feels the difference when Jungkook takes his pants off all the way and then rolls his hips down to meet Seokjin's, their dicks sliding together in the way Jungkook angles his body.
When he leans in to kiss Seokjin again, Seokjin whines needily, bucking up into the touch more.
He bucks up again and this time, Jungkook takes ahold of his thighs and holds him up, then pulls away from the kiss with a single strand of saliva following before it breaks off— Jungkook doesn't care about that right now, but rather busying himself by lining up his dick to Seokjin's hole.
"Are you sure hyung?" he asks for reassurance, but Seokjin pouts and whines in return. "What, hyung? Tell me who's you are and I'll do it."
Another whine tears from Seokjin's throat. "Yours," he huffs out. "I-I'm yours only, Jungkookie. Please."
That's all Jungkook needs before he lowers his hips and body into Seokjin. His dick is smeared with precum and spit and Seokjin can hardly breathe steadily once he starts pushing into him and leaving soft pecks all over his chest again.
He has to hold onto Jungkook's arms and arch his back to really take in the feeling because the more he arches, the more he takes in and the more he grips tight onto Jungkook's flesh.
Loose moans fill the air and Seokjin is practically mewling and squirming below Jungkook as he uses him, fucking into him with every harsh breath and heavy thrust he's got.
"O-Only yours," Seokjin stutters with no hesitation, earning another moan from where Jungkook's dropped his head on his chest in pure ecstasy.
"Mine," Jungkook rasps out before he's kissing Seokjin again and his hips are stuttering as well. They both moan into the messy kiss, but Seokjin lets out a quiet gasp as Jungkook wraps his fingers around his dick and jerks him off quickly, the older's thighs shaking as he feels the rush of heat and he starts coming between them.
Jungkook moans out as Seokjin clenches over his dick, his hole fluttering over the pulse of Jungkook's hard-on.
"Holy shit." Jungkook thrusts a few more good times before he's pulling out of Seokjin, who pouts, and he jerks himself off until his head is falling back and he's coming as well— right over Seokjin's still throbbing dick. "Hyung, you're so damn good." Jungkook leaves more needy pecks on Seokjin's lips and then softer ones on top of his head. "So gorgeous under me. Did so well."
Seokjin's always loved praises and he's positive that Jungkook knows that. His entire body was most likely rosy red, but he still felt like he was blushing hard over Jungkook's words.
After lots of kisses and praises, Jungkook walks naked to get a wet cloth and it's warm on Seokjin's skin, gentle as Jungkook carefully wipes him down.
Then after that's over, Jungkook fluffs Seokjin's pillow out for him and he pulls the blanket over both of them. He makes sure to pull Seokjin's teddy bear off the top of the pillows just like he'd been doing for weeks now and he lays it between them before tightly hugging Seokjin and telling him how cute and pretty he is, and how much he loves him.
"I love you too, Jungkook."
And though it was the first time Seokjin said it in a romantic way, Jungkook simply smiles and kisses his forehead. "Trust me, I know you do."
Maybe he didn't have to say it. Maybe it was obvious just like Jungkook's love is too now. And Seokjin doesn't ever have to try and look for someone to love him or someone to love because they're in each other's arms right now and love stole the night tonight.
Seokjin was ready for love, but love was right in front of him all along.
