Potc short story: The Monkey did it.
"I swear to the gods if ye die on our way back I'll kill ye." Teague mumbled under his breath as he wrapped an arm around his son. Supporting him as they walked slowly but steadily back.
Jack smiled weakly, trying to keep up. "Think mum'll kill us both 'stead." He joked, trying to keep his mind off the pain as he held his side.
Edward just shook his head in aspiration and concern. Smiling slightly back. "Why'd ye have to mess with that wench again?" He questioned.
Sparrow rose a brow. "It wasn't the wench, it was the monkey." He insisted tiredly, waving a hand dramatically. As if swatting the accusation away.
"Sure, the monkey." Teague said in unbelief with a sigh as they reached the door. Fumbling to unlock and open it.
The door opened for them instead, revealing a woman on the other side. Eyes wide with worry and concern as she quickly helped them in. Wondering what happened.
"Don't bother askin'," The old Captain told her as she cleared off the couch. "He'll say it was the monkey."
"Monkey?" Cora ask in confusion, helping him lay Jack down.
"Aye." Teague stated simply, checking his son's wound as he sat down. Taking off his hat. "Have someone send for Soracha." He told her a moment later.
She gave a nod, calling for Nara.
"Yes mum?" Her daughter questioned, glancing briefly at Jack in worry as she came down the stairs.
"Dad's hurt, go an' get Soracha please." Cora told her quickly . Brushing back a piece of her hair from off her face.
Nara went out then without even bothering to give a response in reply. Or putting on boots for that matter either. Going swiftly to the cottage a few feet next door.
She then came back moments later, a woman behind her with bright auburn hair. Juggling supplies in her arms.
"Move Eddie, ye can fawn over him later." She grunted as she waved him away. Though there was a slight twinkle in her eyes as she teased him. Turning her attention to Jack.
Soracha shook her head, glancing down at the man who lay on the couch. Wincing with pain. "Let me guess, was it the wench again?" She ask in disapproval, beginning to clean the knife gash on his side.
He rolled his eyes slightly in response. "No, it was the-" He paused being interrupted by his doctor who gave a scoff.
"Yeah, we know. The damm monkey." She muttered , still cleaning. "An' don't ye dare start complaining that I've used rum instead of whiskey. I ran out."
Sparrow gave a groan at that. "Wonder why." He complained.
She handed him the bottle as she finished cleaning. Wrapping it as well. "There, now rest up an' ye'll be fine. Dunno why you called me in the first place, ''tis only a scratch."
"Isn't." Jack insisted, taking a drink.
"Then poor you." Soracha stated, shaking her head once more as she gathered her things.
"How's the wounded?" Roxanne asked as she came into the room, a mug of tea in her hands which she passed to Teague.
"Just fine." Soracha replied, standing up. "He's barely even hurt."
Roxanne nodded as she rose a brow. "Should I even bother asking how it happened?" She asked.
Teague shook his head quickly. "No, he'll say it was the-"
"Yes I know," His wife finished. "The dammed monkey."
A/N:
😁 I know it's short and probably silly but here it is LucyBoal . :) Thanks for letting me use Roxanne and Soracha too. They made the story better. ❤️ Hope you enjoyed it. ~Isilwen.
