Chapter Twelve
The Gryffindors and Slytherins filed in to the potions room. "This is a very exciting day!" The professor announced, "We'll be making our first potion." Maddie's eyes widened. Did you need magic for that?
She had wanted to sit next to Lena, but by the time she got there, a Slytherin girl she didn't know was trading chocolate frog cards with her sister. So, she took an open desk near the front, later she was joined by Hugo.
"Please open your books to page fifty-eight to see what we'll be brewing today."
With Maddie's good arm, she threw the book on her desk and found the page.
FORGETFULNESS POTION,
Maddie read at the top.
The Forgetfulness Potion is a beginner level potion that causes memory loss. Depending on how much is given, memories will be lost from certain point of time on. Can used on animals and people, alike.
Maddie's brown eyes instantly met Lena's. Just what they needed.

"Uh, Hugo," Maddie asked, "what exactly are you doing with your wand?" Hugo pointed to the bottom of the page, "Last step. Wave wand counterclockwise to complete potion." "Oh yeah!" Maddie forced a laugh, "I forgot." Hugo seemed to be watching her expectantly. Maddie pulled her wand from it's pocket in her robe. A simple wooden one. She glanced back at Lena, trying to make it look as natural as possible.
Somehow, Lena managed to look up at the perfect moment.
"Help!" Maddie mouthed. Lena graciously hopped off her stool and over to Hugo and Maddie's desk. "Hey, Maddie, how's it going?" She asked as casually as possible. "Good," Maddie shrugged. "I just have to finish it off with moment of my wand, right, Hugo?" He nodded. "'Sup!" Lena rolled her eyes.
Maddie looked down at Lena's wand. Spinning in a circle. Maddie then swooshed her own wand. "That should do it."
Hugo stood up, "I'll be right back, I've got to use the lou."
Maddie exhaled a nervous breath. "Tomorrow we sit together, okay?" Lena nodded. "Do you think we get to keep this?" Maddie gestured toward her cauldron. "No," Lena shook her head, then leaned in close to her sister to whisper, "we can brew more or something... we'll figure it out." Maddie nodded. "I think Hugo's catching on to something here." Lena bit her lip, "I really hope your wrong." And walked away.
Me, too.
