Produce X 101 airs every Friday night at 23:00 (KST) starting May 3, 2019. The final episode is broadcast live at 20:00 (KST) on July 19, 2019. The final group that came out of the program was X1. But after 5 months of operation, X1 disbanded due to disagreement between management companies.

On December 14, Mnet released the show's first teaser after the end of the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Hong Kong.

On February 28, the winning group was confirmed to be promoting for 5 years: of which the first 2.5 years will be exclusively active; 2.5 years later will operate in parallel, with the management company.

On March 4, Produce X 101 revealed that Lee Dong-wook will take on the role of the representative for this season, replacing Lee Seung-gi. He will "act as a messenger and represent the audience". It is known that the recording process also started on the same day, with the introduction of the advisors.

On March 21, the season's theme song, "X1-MA" (_ 지마) was revealed on M Countdown. The launch date was also officially announced as May 3, 2019.

The new feature of this season is class X, the lowest class, for the trainees with the lowest capacity and highest possibility of disqualification.
