Forever Friends

From the very beginning, it was obvious that we would become good friends

Our minds and souls seemed to coalesce as one

Revelling in the comfort of our common views

Every word, and every bodily gesture, were in tune

Voices resonated with the joyous sound, that is pleasant company

Early days, but even then, who'd have known, we were not already good friends

Remember well, those moments when we bonded in love, living life with an unparalleled passion, forged in heaven, which was meant to last a lifetime

Fortune shone on us that day, was it an accident, or was it fated, that we should meet?

River of life has flowed remorselessly forth, but our friendship has withstood the ebb and flow of time

Things must inevitably change, it's an indisputable fact of life

Eventually, we all must face our destiny and move on to someplace else, which is neither near or far

Now it's your turn to take a well-earned rest, and part from this wonderful world of ours

Don't forget the friendly smiles, and laughter we shared, because no matter what, forever friends we shall remain

So, please remember my special friend, that in both good times and bad, we will always be, just one loving thought away

This is a very personal poem, originally written to address a loss of love as if it were life itself because that's how it felt.

It was subsequently rewritten to be read at the funeral of a very dear friend, at probably the most difficult time in that person's life.

That moment when two soul mates, who've journeyed through life together, have to part company on earth for one last time.
