Impediment

In the blink of an eye, I caught a glimpse of her beautiful face.
My heart was lost, as she stopped, and her sky-blue eyes gazed into mine.
Placing her hand into mine, with unquestionable trust was an unlikely impediment.
Each wasted second was another life lost.
Delivering the residents from the tower to safety we must.
In the race against time, I did not think to ask her name.
Moved along by the tide of terror, her fingers slipped from mine and she has swept away.
Entering the lift shaft, was a risk we had to take.
Nothing could be done, as an influx of white-hot air, turned the shaft into a furnace.
There was a moment of clarity, shortly before I became smoke, in which I caught a fleeting glimpse of her beautiful face as she touched my hand.
