chapter 10: go fish
Eloise sat curled up on the porch swing when she heard screaming.
"You three need new gigs! Not ready for runs yet."
"Yeah, pretty sure you've got that backwards."
She recognized the second voice, it was Glenn but she didn't know the first one. She quickly shot out of her spot on the swings and ran for the gate where she could hear the yelling.
She skidded to a stop beside Eugene and watched as Deanna's son, Aiden, got up in Glenn's face.
"You tie up walkers." Glenn shot at him.
"It killed our friend!" Aiden screamed, causing more attention.
The two men started whispering threats to each other and Eloise walked up closer when she watched Tara and Noah try to stop Aiden. She went now to stand by Daryl as Deanna walked up.
"Aiden! What is going on?"
"This guy's got a problem with the way we do things. Why did you let these people in?" Aiden snarled.
"Because we actually know what we're doing out there." Glenn snarled and in one quick movement, Aiden swung to punch Glenn but Glenn quickly blocked it, knocking Aiden to the ground.
Eloise, feeling a shock of adrenaline go threw her, ran up to Glenn, grabbing his elbow to pull him back, not noticing Nicholas running up to attack Glenn.
Nicholas pushed Eloise out of the way to get to Glenn but pushed her a little too hard as her head bashed against the the wooden walls and she fell to the ground, trying to catch her breath at the wind being knocked out of her and her now massive headache.
Daryl quickly tackled the man in anger, ignoring Deanna's screams to stop. Everyone was so engrossed with the fight, they didn't notice Lou's state.
Rick and Carl, who just walked into Alexandria, quickly noticed the fight that had broken out and ran to it. Rick grabbed onto Daryl to push him off Nicholas while Michonne stepped in front of Aiden, who was trying to pounce at Glenn. "You wanna end up on your ass again?"
Rick was still trying to hold back Daryl when the man screamed at Deanna. "You not gonna punish them? Cause it's your kid and his buddy? I mean look what this son of a bitch did to her!" Daryl screamed at Deanna before pointing to Eloise who was on her hands and knees, trying to catch her breath and focus her eyes from her dizziness.
Everyone finally noticed Lou on the ground and quickly ran to her as she reached for the back of her head where she hit the wall. She felt warm liquid hit her head, she drew her hand to her face and she saw it. Blood.
Tara and Carl quickly ran over to Eloise and slowly helped her up. Carl was the first to notice the blood and turned to Rick. "Dad, she's bleeding."
Rick walked over to Eloise and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, Lou. Are you okay?"
"Blury." Eloise mumbled as she stumbled a bit, Carl quickly grabbing her waist tighter to keep her up. Rick nodded and turned to Carl. "Let's get her to the doctor." Once Carl nodded he turned to Daryl. "Go get Carol. Let her know what happened to Lou." Daryl nodded his head as Rick helped Carl walk Lou to the doctor.
...
The doctor, Pete, told Eloise and Carol that Eloise had a mild concussion. He quickly wrapped Eloise's head and gave her an ice pack, telling her she'd need to ice her head for the rest of the night.
After he sent them home, Carol and Eloise headed to the other house where the group was staying. When they walked in, everyone was sitting in the living room.
"Lou! Come join us!" Noah hollered from the coffee table with Carl.
Eloise slowly walked over and Noah handed her a stack of cards. "We're playing uno." Carl said as Lou nodded her head, putting her elbows on the table, leaving her ice pack on her head and hoping it stays there by itself.
She heard someone walking down the stairs and saw Rick walk down in his new police uniform. Eloise let out a little snort. "Nice outfit, officer." Eloise giggled out as she put down a +2, making Noah groan.
Rick rolled his eyes as he walked over to the three kids. "Glad to see your better." Rick muttered, rubbing her shoulder, pointing at a card Carl's deck that he should use next.
...
Eloise was ecstatic when she found out Alexandria had record players and just her luck, Aaron had a huge collection of records. When Aaron saw how happy Eloise was when she saw all of his records, he told her she could keep two. Eloise was quick to pick out her records, grabbing two Beatles records, thanking Aaron and running back to her house.
As soon as Eloise got home, she realized no one was there. She quickly ran up the stairs, running to her room and playing the music as soon as she got in.
Eloise danced around her room, singing the songs as loud as she could before she noticed someone walking behind her house in her window. Eloise turned down the volume of the music and walked closer to her window.
Enid walked up to the gate, before she started climbing it. Eloise gawked at the girl now halfway up the wall. "Awesome." Eloise breathed out once Enid hopped off the last peg of the gate, swinging her legs over and landing on the other side of the gate.
She stared at the spot where the girl once was till she heard something hit her window. She looked straight ahead and locked eyes with Carl who was sitting in his window right across from her, throwing rocks to get her attention.
Eloise smiled brightly at him before opening her window, leaning out to talk to Carl. "Well, hello." Carl sang as he popped his head out of his window further. Eloise childishly smiled at the boy, a flutter feeling growing in her chest. "Hiya, neighbor."
"Did you hear about the block party we have to go to?" Carl asked, making Eloise roll her eyes. "We have to?" She whined. Carl shook his head, laughing before answering. "Yeah, we do."
Eloise groaned before placing her hands on the top of the window, ready to close it before sending one last thing to Carl. "Come over when ever you're ready than."
Just as she was about to close her window, she heard Carl call out her name. "Louie, what are you talking about?"
"What do you mean what am I talking about? We are going at the same time. Or else I'll get stuck with Abraham and Rosita making out in a corner!" Eloise screamed back at Carl. "So pick me up when you're ready!" Eloise said and she went over to her record player, ready to turn up the music but stopped at his voice again.
"It's a date!"
Eloise froze, walking back towards the window to see Carl, a worried smile on his face. Eloise bit her bottom lip in our nerves, looking down at the grass under her window before nodding.
"Uh.. yeah sure. It's a date." Eloise felt her stomach flutter again as her cheeks grew hot and this time, she slammed her window shut before Carl could say anything else. She turned up her music, Yesterday playing loudly as she flopped on her bed in a starfish position, in shock of what had just happened.
...
Carl headed over to Lou's house once it was time to go to the party. Carl walked into the house to find an empty living room and kitchen. Carl hopped over the back of the couch, lying down and screaming for Eloise to come downstairs.
"Louie! I'm here!" Carl screamed as he grabbed a handful of pretzels Tara had set up on the coffee table earlier in the day. Loud steps tumbling down the stairs rang through the house.
Eloise came barreling down the stairs and as soon and as she saw Carl she scoffed, a smile taking over her face. "You cannot wear that, cowboy." Eloise teased, as she walked over to the back of the couch, leaning over and talking Carl's hat off his head and putting it onto hers.
"Well, if I can't, you can't either." Carl snarled back, reaching for his hat but Eloise ducked away before he could grab it. She ran to the kitchen and stood in between the stove and the island. Carl went running after her, standing across from her in the other side of the island, deciding which way to go to catch her.
The two went back and forth around the island as Eloise let out nonstop giggles. Eloise circled the island and ran for the couch but Carl grabbed onto her waist and span her around. Eloise let out a squeal as she spun in Carl's arms. Carl placed her down and quickly took his hat off her head and onto his own.
Eloise pouted, crossing her arms over her chest like a toddler and began to stomp to the front door. She could hear Carl chuckle from behind her before he ran after her, putting an arm around her shoulders and walking out of the house where Carol and Rick were waiting for them.
...
The four walked into Deanna's house and she immediately came up to greet them. "Welcome! It's so good to see you." Deanna said to Carol and Carl before turning to Eloise. "It's good to see you feeling better." Eloise nodded her head at the woman and she turned to Rick and Judith.
"Thank you for coming. You know, I didn't get a chance to interview this one. I envy her." "Why?" Rick asked the woman.
"She'll get to see what this place will become."
Carl nudged Lou's shoulder and she turned to him with furrowed brows before he pointed at Ron and Mikey who were waving them down.
"Do you want to go over to them?" Carl quietly asked and Eloise slowly nodded her head.
...
"Full house." Mikey said proudly as he put his cards down on the coffee table the four kids were sitting at. Carl was sitting beside Eloise while Mikey sat in front of Carl, Ron in front of Lou.
Carl groaned at Mikey's cards, throwing his cards on the table.
Ron had a proud smirk on his face as he showed the three his cards. "Royal Flush."
The boys turned to Eloise who was staring at her cards, biting her lips. She felt someone looking at her and looked up, growing red at the three boys staring at her. "What?"
"What about your cards?" Carl asked and Eloise looked back and forth between him and her cards. "Uh... Go fish?"
The boys looked at her for a moment before laughing. Eloise laughed, placing her cards on the table. "Yeah. I don't know how to play... I don't even know what we're playing." Eloise giggles out, leaning over from laughing so hard. She felt herself lean back into Carl as he leaned forwards into her, both laughing messes as she realized something.
She liked the feeling of being in Carl's arms.
—So... uh... I don't know how to play what ever card game they were playing so hopefully it was right 😳.
I will probably publish a lot more because I'm on winter break and got three weeks off so.... BE PREPARED FOR A LOT OF NEW CHAPTERS.
