Chapter 1: Prologue

Bell gasped, waking up in a brightly lit room. Her first instinct was to look around and find out her location. She glanced around the room and groaned, looking down she realized she was in a gown. A hospital gown. By the looks of the room it had to of been a hospital somewhere in the USA. Bell carefully lifted the gown to see stitches on her stomach area. Ah, that was right, She'd been shot. On the cliff where he, Adler, told her it; quote, "Wasn't personal." She groaned and stood up, ripping the IVs from her arm and walking out the door. "I'll have to sneak out.." She said to herself quietly, silently crouching down the wall, being sure to stay quiet. Long story short, she made it out of the hospital without being noticed.

Bell had escaped, taking the next few months to recover and find out what happened to her, how did she get to that hospital? She knew she didn't crawl all the way to the US by herself, someone had to of taken her there, maybe it was a random civilian, but why would a civilian take her to the US? With that, she crossed out a civilian taking her there out of her mind, figuring it HAD to be someone on the team, likely someone who didn't want her to die or just felt bad. Park did say she felt like she owed Bell so.. Chances of it being Park were higher than the rest.

Bell had hidden herself for awhile until the police had stopped looking for her after her escape. When they gave up, she got herself a job to last until she was ready to head to the safehouse where the rest of the team hopefully still remained. So if she wanted to find them, she'd have to get there within the next week or so, and with that came intense training with both weapons and close combat. Oh she felt like such a fool, to trust Adler, to believe the things he put in her head, the memories, he made her, and that fact could never escape her mind, she obeyed him like a dog for over a year. She shook her head, trying to clear her mind.

Days went by slowly, but surely the time came where Bell was ready to face the team and head the the safehouse. She grabbed her things and made the drive to the Berlin safehouse, unarmed. Damn, the memories that simple building brought back made her heart ache with rage. Slowly she walked to the main door, gently knocking on it with her fist. Fuck she regretted it almost instantly, hiding beside one of the garbage cans she waited for the door to be opened, not knowing what to do or say. A moment passed before it was opened and she heard footsteps. A low, raspy voice filled the nights silence along with the sound of a lighter flicking. "Hello? Tss... Must've been a ding dong ditch." Spoke none other than Russell Adler himself. He took a drag of his cigarette and breathed out the smoke, sighing. Bell cleared her throat which Adler raised an eyebrow to. "...Or not." He put the cigarette between his lips and grabbed the pistol that rested safely on his side. He only rested his hand on the grip, figuring maybe it was just a stupid kid. Before he could even go around the trash cans, Bell jumped out and held her hands up. "Dont shoot." She said sternly, staring at him with a harsh glare. With that, Russell let go of the gun. "How on Earth are you alive?" He growled out, his glare not visible through his shades. Bell frowned. "You.. Didn't know I was alive? Then who took me there? Park? Mason?" The questions swarmed her mind as she balled her hands into fists. She gritted her teeth and swung at Russell, Who grabbed her arm and held it with a tight grip. "No. The hell are you talking about?" Bell tried to swing again only to have him grab her other arm as well. She shook her head. "The hospital, someone took me to a hospital. I didn't know what was happening." She heaved, the thought that he might just shoot her again and end it clouding her thoughts. He shook his head and groaned, breathing out another puff of smoke from his cigarette before throwing it down. "I've got no idea what you're talking about. Go inside. It's cold." He opened the door for her, to which she glanced at him before cautiously walking into the building. She was in a hell of a lot of trouble, especially with Hudson since she knew he hated her.

Bell sat down on a cold metal chair in front of the evidence board, it seemed as though everyone else was at their homes, Russell was the only one there. She didn't notice when Russell came back inside, staring off into space. Russell cleared his throat, getting her attention. Bell looked at him as he walked closer. "You need a place to stay, Bell?" He asked her, kneeling down in front of her. She sighed and glanced away. "I do. You'll probably shoot me though if I go with you." He chuckled, shaking his head. "No, I won't shoot you. Look, come with me, I'll rent you a hotel room to stay in and I'll let everyone know to come to the safehouse tomorrow. I guess you and them have got a lot of explaining to do." She nodded. "I guess..." She mumbled, rubbing her arm. Silence filled the room for a brief moment, then Adler spoke up. "Where were you the last year?" Bell bit her lip, sighing. The US. I didn't do anything really, just recovered from the shot you put in me, got a job then.. well... came here. I wanted to.. get revenge on you, not by killing you, I just... Needed to see you hurt." Russell hummed at that. "Well then, take your best shot. Go ahead, punch me as hard as you can." Bell sighed. "That's not how it works, Adler." He chuckled softly. "If you say so. I'll call everyone and have them come here tomorrow morning. You still want that hotel room or you wanna stay somewhere else? Not sure if you plan on staying for long." Bell thought for a moment. "I plan on staying as long as I need to. So I'd recommend you rent me an apartment, something simple." Russell nodded. "Done. I'll rent the apartment tomorrow. For now you can stay with me. Guess we can say it's a way to earn trust." Bell bit her lip nervously and nodded. "Sure..."

Bell had followed Adler out to his simple little one bedroom home, leaving her stuff in her car and going inside with him. "You really live here? Isn't much room for a family, don't you think? Don't you have a wife?" Russell laughed at that. "Course I don't, wouldn't have time for that." Bell was kinda surprised. "Really? All this time I thought you were married..." She shrugged it off and looked around the house. Adler flipped on the light switch. "Make yourself at home, Bell. Bathroom is over there by the kitchen if you need it." Bell nodded, taking off her jacket. "Where am I sleeping?" Adler raised an eyebrow. "You choose. To me, it doesn't matter." Bell blushed at that, shaking her head and running her fingers through her hair. "Fine, if I get to pick, I pick your room." She looked at him with a smug grin on her face." Russell nodded. "Right this way, Bell." Bell stood for a moment, kinda shocked that he'd actually let her into his room, slowly, she followed him upstairs to his room and set her bag on the ground by the door. " This is nice, I didn't think you'd be so organized." Russell shrugged. "I try to be as neat as possible." He said, pulling off his clothes and changing into pajama pants. "You still wanna be here? Just warning you, I sleep shirtless." Bell choked slightly, nodding. "Ermm.. Yeah." She rubbed the back of her neck. Adler chuckled. "Just messing with you, I'll sleep downstairs, go ahead and get comfortable." He said, walking to the door. Bell gulped. "Seriously?" He turned his head to her. "What? You want me to stay?" He grinned. Bell huffed. "Maybe I do." She laid down on Russel's bed, pulling the covers over her small frame. He smirked. "Alright then, have it your way." He spoke, climbing into the bed next to her.

Ah, a few months went by and Bell's want for revenge... I guess it's easy to say she never got her revenge but what she did get, satisfied her. Russell had never rented her an apartment, and Bell never questioned it. The team was surprised with Bell's return but welcomed her quickly, all except for Hudson. Hard bastard to break through but with time she was sure he'd come around and accept her back. The team started to take notice to how close Bell and Adler got, they knew he wasn't brainwashing her, but they wanted to know why they were so close. What was going on between them? And honestly, Bell didn't know what was going on either. They weren't dating or anything and made that clear to the team whenever they asked. One thing Bell did know was, they had sex. Once. And ever since Adler had been teasing her and hanging around her way too often. Oh and here he comes, probably to tease her again, she smiled to herself, pouring a cup of coffee as Russell stood behind her, placing a hand on her shoulder that slowly slid down her arm and rested on her hip. "Knew it." She leaned her head back against him and closed her eyes. "You knew it, hm?" He raised an eyebrow. Bell nodded. "You're the only one that randomly comes up behind me." She hummed. "We did it one time and now you won't leave me alone." She laughed. He grinned. "Yeah, well, I may or may not wanna do it again." He shrugged. Bell raised an eyebrow at him. "Of course you do. Tonight we'll go to a bar, have some drinks, and if I'm up for it or if you can convince me, we'll do it." She said quietly so no one on the team besides Adler heard her. Russell gently patted her back. "Good enough for me. I'll buy." Bell smiled and rolled her eyes. "The teams getting suspicious. If they ask you'll probably have to tell them soon." He shrugged. "They'll figure it out with time. They wouldn't be on this team if they couldn't piece together the evidence." Bell nodded. "I suppose you're right. What happens when they do find out?" She asked, to which Russell shrugged. "Who knows. Worst that could happen is they're upset they didn't know sooner." He yawned, grinning at her. "Don't think too much about it." Bell nodded, sipping her coffee and watching him walk away to speak with Park about a mission they needed to go on. Bell smiled and set her cup on the counter, figuring she'd go to the bar early and have a few drinks before Adler got there.

Bell arrived at the bar and told the bartender someone would be there with her in about an hour. Bell talked with the bartender until Adler arrived, she was already tipsy and her cheeks were pink from the alcohol. She waved to Adler who chuckled and walked over to her. "You look like you're ready to leave already. I'll have a drink then we can head to my place." He winked at her. Bell blushed and nodded, looking up and down his body and biting her lip. "Mmm... You look great, Russ.." Adler raised an eyebrow, leaning against the counter and grinning. "Not too bad yourself." He downed his glass of alcohol and set the money on the counter. "C'mon, Bell. Lets get home." He walked out to the car with her, opening her door and letting her in. Once she was in he walked to the drivers seat, started the car and hurried to his house that he shared with Bell. He unlocked the front door and took off her leather jacket and his own. then taking off his leather gloves. Bell did the same as him, running upstairs to Adler's room. Bell left her remaining clothes on. Adler grinned at her and followed her upstairs, unbuckling his belt buckle and unzipping his pants. Adler laid Bell down on the bed and hovered over her. "Love the dress. Didn't know they were your thing though." He pushed her dress up over her hips, his fingers grazing across her stomach, frowning at the scar from the bullet. He shook his head and let his finger tips roam lower to her underwear, gently pulling them down her to her knees. Bell held her arms over her head, arching her back as he touched her up. He was about to enter her when there was a knock on the front door. He groaned. Cock-block. He zipped up his pants but didn't care to buckle his belt, going downstairs he peaked out the window. Damn, just some kid selling stuff. He sighed and opened the door. The girl, probably around the age of 13 smiled. "Hi, sir! I'm selling candy for a school fundraiser do you wanna buy something to help me out?" Adler sighed and handed her a $50. "Give me anything." The girl smiled, clearly very happy about the money. She counted out 50 chocolate bars from her box and gave them to him. "Thank you!" She shouted, running off. Adler groaned, setting the candy on the coffee table and going upstairs to Bell, he climbed back onto the bed, got between her legs and leaned down, biting softly at her skin on her throat. "Lets continue, shall we?" He lifted her legs a bit higher, grabbing her wrists and pinning them on the mattress. Bell panted, not saying a word, just letting the man do as he pleased. Bell wrapped her legs around his torso, arching her back and making it easier for him to enter inside her. God it felt amazing. Adler grunted, making small, dark hickeys all around her collar bone. Bell eventually began doing the same along his jawline, being careful of his scars. She adored his scars, she believed they made him who he is. Bell smiled, closing her eyes as Adler soon pulled out of her. She rolled onto her side, Adler caging her in his arms from behind. The two of them drifted off into sleep slowly, comforted in each others warmth.
