Chapter 3
Charlotte let out a long heavy sigh. "This," she said facing her crew. "This is why men can't be trusted." She lifted Jeisuin up by the scruff of his shirt, his feet dangling.
"What did I do wrong?" he whined.
"What did ye do wrong?" Charlotte repeated utterly astounded. "Ye just tried to kill me, newest recruit!"
"I did not..." Jeisuin huffed. "The coolest and most mysterious Jeisuin would never do that..."
"Jay-sween!? What's that? Some rotted fish?"
"My name," Jeisuin grumped. "And anyways I wasn't trying to kill the little girl..."
"Mary? Yeah, ye were. Ye put her in a dory and set it on fire. Remember?" Charlotte had just about had enough of this man, if he could even be called a man. Perhaps he was more of a boy?
She was about to chuck him straight over the side when she heard Bush cry out. "Storm ho, Miss!"
"Aye!" Charlotte shouted back. "All hands on deck!" The screw scrambled onto the deck spreading the message like wildfire. "We'll deal with ye later." Charlotte glared at Jeisuin and threw him onto the deck. Jeisuin rubbed his sore throat and pouted.
"I was just trying to warm her up, no thanks to you..." he mumbled.
"Nobody wants to hear yer stupid whining. So shut yer gabbin gob before I shut it for ye." Charlotte looked around and saw her crew hard at work lowering sails and bringing everything below deck. She smiled. "These girls be so brave and strong," she thought aloud. "Best in the archipelago."
She turned back to the flopping fish man on the ground who was now trying (and tremendously failing) to sneak away. Rolling her eyes harder than she had in a long time, she wordlessly grabbed him by the scruff of his neck once more and dragged him down sets of stairs to the tiny prison she'd never before had a use for.
"What are we doing here?" Jeisuin asked.
"I be lockin ye up. As much as I'd like to be rid of ye, me crew needs to get to work and not be distracted by the likes of ye." Charlotte reached into her bosom and pulled out a key. She unlocked the door, grabbed a pokey stick that was nearby, and used it to push Jeisuin into the cell.
"How long am I here for?" Jeisuin asked.
"Till the storm passes. Then me crew will feed ye to the sharks. Maybe we can even make a show out of it!"
"What if I get lonely? Or bored?" Jeisuin whined, making Charlotte grab her head in pain. Why, of all the men in the world, did she manage to pick up someone so utterly stupid?
"The rats will keep ye company."
"But-"
"If ye don't shut up, I swear I will eat this key!" Charlotte cut him off, slamming the door shut and twisting the key in the lock. It clicked, shutting Jeisuin up, once and for all. Charlotte walked back up to the deck, replacing the key, and worried about what was to come.
While Charlotte was below, the crew had been hard at work, moving everything in sight. All the sails were removed, giving the Salty Bitch a bare and haunted look. The water below the ship was choppy, fast paced, and mean. It tossed the ship around as the crew struggled to hang on.
"Let's head down below!" Charlotte shouted. She needed to make a plan. To keep her crew safe. The best way for her to do that, would be if she didn't have to worry about everyone.
"Beck!" she called out. The wind was picking up. The storm wasn't here, yet, but it was starting to get dangerous.
"I'm here Cap'n!" Beck shouted out through the wind. "What do ye need from me?"
"Yer my most dependable crew mate!" Charlotte shouted back, over the now howling wind. Her crew was starting to run now. "Can ye keep an eye on everyone for me? Especially Mary? I be needin to prepare to outrun this wild storm."
"Ye can count on me!" And with that, Charlotte headed down to her quarters once again. Up against the corner of the room she had a desk with a drawer where she kept all her maps. She headed straight to it, yanking the desk towards the middle of the room with all her might. The old desk screeched and clanked as she dragged and shoved until she got it right where she wanted. Then, she pulled out an old, crusty map with plenty of holes made from pins and knives in times past. If the wind was blowing to the East, that meant she needed to turn the ship...
"Charlotte!" Elizabeth pushed the door open and it slammed hard into the wall. "Oops. Anyways," she continued adjusting the door. "I wanted to let you know that you don't need to stress about this door anymore. Isn't that great news!"
"Um...Elizabeth...?"
"It's Lizzy Boo Boo Bear to you, but yes?"
"'Lizzie Boo Boo Bear'?" Charlotte repeated, her face contorted in disgust. "Look I know that we be together and all, but you know that type of thing isn't for me—"
"O c'mon, Charlotte, you know that I'm just screwin around with you!"
"—and besides," Charlotte continued, ignoring her girlfriend, "I need to be preparing for this storm. It's going to hit us like a—"
"But that's the thing, Charlotte, dear. The storm is gone! Can't you hear it?" Charlotte stopped moving and listened hard. Elizabeth was right. There wasn't any sound except of the ocean waves slapping against the ship. "Bush was able to grab hold and steer us out of the treacherous waters! You don't have to worry about the storm anymore and can spend time with me!"
"I don't believe ye. Elizabeth move out of me way!" Elizabeth had positioned herself in front of the door so that Charlotte could not leave the room. Charlotte put her hands on her hips and stood as tall as she could. "Elizabeth," she whispered, "are ye planning on moving or not?"
"Erm...not!" Elizabeth shouted. She launched straight into tickling the imposing woman.
"Elizabeth-" but that was all Charlotte managed to get out before collapsing into a fit of giggles. Charlotte silently cursed herself for letting Elizabeth into the secret that Charlotte's most ticklish spot was her belly. Just one light, feathery touch and Charlotte was gone.
Charlotte eventually managed to gain some level of self control and squeezed Elizabeth's wrists hard.
"That hurts," Elizabeth whined. Charlotte stared into her puppy like eyes, almost falling for the evil scheme.
"Does not!" Charlotte shouted back, lifting her girlfriend into the air and dumping her on the bed while managing to keep her wrists pinned down.
There was a knock on the door.
"You're kidding me," Elizabeth moaned in anguish. "We were so close this time."
"It's ok, Elizabeth," Charlotte reassured her, already at the door and turning the handle letting a slightly trembling Bush in.
"Sorry to bother ye Miss, but he's somehow escaped and we don't know how it happened, but please don't blame any of the other Misses, Miss, as if anything it was me own fault." Bush let out a massive breath.
"It's ok, Bush," Charlotte reassured the short woman. "Let's go find out what's up."
And once again, Charlotte found herself shutting the door on Elizabeth sitting on the bed and twiddling her thumbs.
Hey all! That was a bit crazy! Do you think Jeisuin and Charlotte will ever be able to get along?
How about that storm? And be on the lookout for a newly member of the crew coming soon...
Thanks for reading we're almost at 200 reads which is INSANE! Thank you all for making it this far with me!
Just a quick reminder that while Beck uses they/them pronouns we have not specified their gender yet so please do not go around gendering them! Also, if someone else has already pointed out a spelling error I've already dealt with it off WP so no need to mention it again!
See you all next Friday when we get to explore a different POV (don't worry, it's still 3rd person). Guess who you think it will be!
