Chapter 4
Jeisuin had always considered himself to be cool and mysterious, but he was starting to realize that not everyone, namely Charlotte, thought of him that way. That was, until Jeisuin attempted to open the door and decided instead of locking it, she must have accidentally unlocked it leaving Jeisuin free and clear to go wherever he wanted.
On a boat...
In the middle of the ocean...
With a storm on the way...
Anyways, that wasn't important now. He was on a ship full of ladies and he'd be dammed if they weren't the prettiest ladies he'd ever set eyes on.
Of course, he'd seen plenty of ladies in his days jumping from ship to ship since he'd run away, but there was something much more beautiful about girls free to do as they please versus girls tied up like dogs. The exception being Charlotte; Jeisuin didn't like her one bit. She was just too nosy for his tastes.
So, when Jeisuin made a wrong turn and ended up right front and center on the deck of the ship surrounded by exhausted pirate lasses, he decided that a song and dance number was in order.
The girls pointed at him and giggled as he sang, so the grand plan seemed to be working. That was, until—
"What the devil is going on here?" That annoying Captain's voice boomed across the deck, her eyes scanning the scene like laser beams. "Again?" She glared at Jeisuin.
"Wasn't me!" he shouted, scurrying along the deck in a fashion that would have impressed the rats. He ran around and around as fast as his legs could carry him before exhaustion took over and he bent over wheezing. "Aha!" He sprung up. "I have escaped the grasp of the evil witch lady!"
Jeisuin turned around slowly as clapping met his ears. There was Charlotte who hadn't moved at all and annoyingly enough, she was rolling her eyes again.
"Congratulations, ye know how to run in a circle. Would ye like an award?"
"Erm...no..." Jeisuin replied. He was honestly feeling embarrassed; as though his pride was dangling off a cliff and Charlotte had her scissors at the ready to chop off the last bit of string holding his pride to himself. He turned away from her and started to walk slowly across the deck, a long line of girls staring at him.
The wind picked up suddenly blowing across the deck, hard. Jeisuin felt himself waver and grabbed on to a nearby pole. Then, with a jolt, Jeisuin found himself whisked off the ship and into the deep, blue, icy sea.
The cold water lashed against his frigid skin, wrapping him tightly, yet refusing to let him get warm. The waves rose and fell crashing loudly against the ship, throwing Jeisuin's poor body like one might a pile of fish.
"This is the end," Jeisuin thought as the water filled up his lungs. "I'm going to die now?" He wondered. It didn't seem possible, but it was even less possible to breathe. That had to mean something. "This isn't fair," he thought, opening his mouth one last time to let in a final gulp of air before his head hit the side of the Salty Bitch and he was pulled under.
Jeisuin couldn't see anything. He was too tired to open his eyes. His throat burned in anguish as his lungs begged desperately for some hint of oxygen. He wasn't sure if his mind was racing or slowing down, so when he heard a splash and felt small hands around his thick, water logged arms pulling him upwards, he was sure it was just another hallucination.
A loud and endless ringing filled his ears as he started to let himself go. The pain in his chest was overwhelming, but Jeisuin knew that if he stopped and just let go that it would be over soon...
"Get him some air!" was the first thing Jeisuin heard as he came to. He felt his mouth being forced open and hot, stinky breath awoke his senses. He was still too exhausted to move.
"He must be freezing! Anyone got spare clothes?" He was quite chilly. His teeth started to chatter.
"Aye! Here ye go, lass!" Ahhh..that was much better.
"Why are we saving this stinking pile of bilge water?" Hey. Was she talking about him?
"Please let me save him Captain I mean Cap'n." Jeisuin liked this girl, but he couldn't quite place the voice...
"Oh...alright..." Jeisuin lay on what he presumed to be the deck of the Salty Bitch waiting to see, or hear, rather, what would happen next. "Why don't ye like men, Charlotte?" A warm hand pressed up against Jeisuin's forehead, pushing his hair out of his mouth and eyes. The hand continued to gently pet his head like one might pet a dog. Jeisuin was loving it.
"Now is not the time for this conversation, Mary. Ye know I'm not normally the type to shut down the questions but..." The hand stopped petting suddenly. Jeisuin wanted her to start up again.
"But I don't understand." Mary gently went back to petting. "This one's not so bad..."
"He tried to kill you, Mary." Charlotte shouted. "Men aren't good people here. You of all people should know that." The hand stopped, dead in place. "Men just see us as objects. The only way we can get paid is if we act as slaves to their sexual desires. We can't do anything else and I've never met a man who's tried to stop it."
"Maybe you haven't met the right man yet." Mary retorted. The crowd ooed. Apparently, they were all standing around watching.
"To the brig with ye Mary. I'm disappointed in ye."
"What?"
"And ye'll be swabbing the deck too."
"But—"
"No buts, Mary, ye listen to me. I'm yer Cap'n."
Jeisuin was sure that he would never understand women, but Mary didn't seem all that bad. He decided to open his eyes and saw a pitiful, red haired Mary being led below by a short pirate who had her hand on Mary's back. He was too scared to look at Charlotte, so he closed his eyes and once more, Jeisuin let himself succumb to the darkness.
