Ocean Genesis
Avatar: The way of water
Everything from the previous night seemed to replay in Li' Aeyana head. Her emotions were all over the place as she barely found the time of day to focus. Everything about the might played out in front of her. There was a momentary peace between Ronal and Li' Aeyana, she finally found someone who makes her happy , she had gained friends whom she trusted and yet it all felt too good to be true. Perhaps it was her outlook in life but Li' Aeyana did not trust happiness, because eventually the scale would tip.
She tried to enjoy her momentary happiness though, it was the first time in years she felt so light. The feeling of not having her emotions and thoughts weigh her down.
Rising above the water she breathed out deeply walking to the shallow waters with Tuk and their ilus. "You've become a good diver Tuk. I'm so happy to see you get better."
"Thanks." The young girls cheerful voice thanked her "Tsireya was right, you're the best."
"Well I would not say the best." Li' Aeyana shrugged having never someone who could take a compliment
"It's true." Tuk replied "It's all Kiri and Neteyam talk about."
"Speaking of, how is Kiri. I haven't seen her yet."
"She said she was going for a swim alone to clear her head. I think she's still sad about what Aonung did." Tuk replied petting the ilu. The girl oblivious to the extent of the fight that occurred between their brothers. All she knew was Aonung had said something to make Kiri sad.
"I suppose so..." Li' Aeyana quietly agreed as her eyes shifted far to the right where Tsireya and Rotxo were having a lesson with the Sully boys. They were practicing to control their breath control as she immediately recognized the back of Neteyams head.
She watched them intently. He seemed more relaxed as he listened to Rotxo. It was strange of her to think how difficult they were towards each other in the beginning and how drastically it had changed. She looked back to the ilus with a soft smile that did not go unnoticed to Tuk
"You really like him, don't you?" She asked to which Li' Aeyana felt no need to hide her grin
"Why do you say that?"
"You two aren't mad at each other anymore. You used to always fight." Tuk answered "It was so silly, kind of like my mom and dad."
"How so?"
Tuk laughed "My mom said that she didn't like him at first. Said he was like a stupid baby. That changed too."
"Looks like being babies is something they have in common."
"Yes, but also liking pretty girls." To this the two girls shared a laugh with one another.
"You seem happy today." Tsireya mentioned as she braided her sisters hair. "Could it of a someone we know?" She teased her older sister
Tsireya was happy to see her sister happy. It had been so long since Li' Aeyana allowed herself to be so. It had gotten to the point where it seemed like nothing she did satisfied her. Li' Aeyana found so much fault with everything she did and who she was which hurt Tsireya so much more because she looked up to her sister.
"I don't know what you mean." Li' Aeyana stood up holding out her hand. The two exited the pod to sit outside where they could watch the sunset.
"Tuk told me." Tsireya replied as laid her head on sisters lap "Plus, you only look this happy when you get to eat." She chuckled
Li' Aeyna traced patterns on Tsireya's palm as she looked out to the beach. "You are one to talk Tsireya."
"What do you mean?"
"I've noticed you with the Sully boy. He had you blushing and giggling since joining our clan." She mentioned as the two shared the same flustered expressions
Tsireya shook her head "I don't know you mean." She sarcastically mimicked "Lo'ak and I are just friends, unlike you and Neteyam."
"I suppose." She said "I have to tell you something though..." To this Tsireya sat up again linking her arm into her sisters
"What? Did something happen-" she quickly asked "Did he-"
"We kissed." Li' Aeyana signed to her sister. Tsireya squealed in excitement as she hugged her sister. Not only because she was ecstatic for her sister but hopeful too
"What was it like? Was it only kiss? Did you bond? You must tell me everything!" She exclaimed joyfully "I must know everything, please."
Before she could reply the pair turned their heads as a groan could be heard behind them. Aonung. He still had not spoken to either of his sisters since the fight with Neteyam and Lo'ak. Hardly even spoken to their parents finding a scapegoat in the fact that Lo'ak was forced to apologize because of his father.
"You two are too comfortable around them." Aonung scoffed "Wasn't it you who said they bring danger? Now you're-" He groaned at the idea of his sister with someone. "They're still freaks."
"Aonung, stop. You have done enough." Tsireya warned as the sisters glared to to their brother, not appreciating his negative tone. "You still need to apologize to Kiri."
"Why should I?" He retorted
"She did nothing to you!" Li' Aeyana argued back "Take it from me, being rude will get you no where. She did not deserve what you all did."
"I am your brother!" He retaliated "You should have my side, no matter what." Aonung barked back as Li' Aeyana stood up marching to him. The twins having been the same height as they stared off to one another
"Not if you are being stupid, which you were!" Li' Aeyana corrected
"Is this what has become of you two." Aonung backed away looking to the pair "You can do whatever you want with them, but they will never be one of us. Everyone knows this."
"Why are you being like this? Is this still about Ki' Luyke?" Tsireyea inspected. It had never been a secret that he Ki' Luyke carried affection for Li' Aeyana and since the Sullys had joined their way of life, a sort of resentment had grown but Aonung had neve been the type that allowed himself to be so easily influenced
"This is not about him!" Aounung yelled "This is about her!" He pointed to Li' Aeyana "You are my sister and you have done nothing but embarrass me."
It all had made sense to her now. She sighed, deeply hurt and disappointed in her brother. Her twin "Aonung, is this still about me claiming the tsurak? You'll have a chance to-"
"It's more than that!" He cried out "Even when you don't care to try father always picks you! You could not, just once have me have my moment. Now everyone thinks you will be Olo'eyktan! I am the oldest not you!"
There was silence amongst the children as Li' Aeyana had felt a cut to her heart. It was rare if ever that she fought with her brother and sister, but something her brothers harsh tone made her realize how deeply he meant every word
"And now you bond with that freak and still you're perfect! It is not fair!"
"I am not perfect and you know this." Li' Aeyana calmly replied "But I would never say what you've said. Why do you care what others think if you know the truth?" She sharply questioned "If you know you are to be olo'eyktan, why do you care what I do or what father thinks?"
"Because-"
"I'm leaving." Li' Aeyana interrupted him "Your problem with me, is not my problem Aonung."
Li' Aeyana had taken a flight to clear her head. She ended the day on a cliff overlooking the village. It seemed so small, which made her argument with Aonung feel even smaller. It was a strange realization. The feeling that you're problems were just that, yours. And that no matter what she was going through there could be someone in their village go through worse.
A darker blue figure sat next to her as she rested her head on their shoulder.
"You seem tired." Kiri observed as took his hand. The stars twinkling above them. She turned to face her friend. Kiri's eyes were red and puffy, which only meant one thing.
"How are you? I missed you today."
"I needed some time to think." She exhaled as her eyes scanned over the ocean.
"Kiri, about what my brother said-"
"It's fine." Kiri shrugged "It does not matter."
"Yes, it does!" Li' Aeyana replied "To me you matter. Aonungs problem is not with you but with me." She confessed
"What do you mean?"
"He's angry with me and he took it out on you. It was wrong, so wrong. I wish he did not say what said because its not true. You're not a freak to me."
"Li' Aeyana, you don't have to- It's fine. I am fine." Kiri muttered "I just-" she breathed in deeply "Just wish I was like everyone else." Holding up her hand "Normal."
"I like you the way you are." She comforted her friend wrapping her arms around Kiri "Just as you are."
Authors note:
So no Neteyam this chapter. I wanted to refocus the relationships that Li' Aeyana has with the rest of the characters and establish how everyone feels because I will be starting to write accordingly to the plot of the film.
Also I love writing family dynamic especially with Li' Aeyanas family because we didn't get much from them in the film, especially Aonung. I wanted to see more of him
Again thanks to everyone who is currently reading this book, I can not believe how many reads it has gotten , genuinely. I will be making daily updates so next chapter will be tomorrow
