'somebody is always hiding something'
THE CANOPY of trees greeted Faye as her eyes fluttered open. The branches swayed in the wind, the leaves crinkling as they brushed against each other. The stiff seats of the Jeep cradled Faye's curled up body along with a jacket that rested upon her shoulders. Curiously, Faye lifted her hand and smoothed it against the brown fabric of the jacket, wondering where it came from. Her fingers curled around the material, clenching the sleeve. The blonde slowly sat up in the backseat, her body shivering. Even though it wasn't her jacket, she still pulled it on and buttoned it up. With a click, she swung the Jeep door open and hopped out of the vehicle.
She was in the middle of the forest. Nothing but trees surrounded her, along with the colorful fallen soldiers that surrounded the base of the trees. Hugging the coat closer to her body, Faye walked to the back of the Jeep to see a ginormous white van with 'BEACON HILLS POLICE DEPARTMENT' written on the side. Taking a step closer to the van, she wondered why it was there in the first place. As her mind dozed off, a low growl erupted from the inside the van, shaking the sides of the vehicle. She did not get any closer.
The quiet sound of laughter pulled Faye away from the vehicle and to around both of the automobiles to where she found Scott and Stiles joking around. When Scott noticed her, he smiled and Stiles rolled his eyes.
"Is this some bad attempt of kidnapping me?" Faye joked, tucking her hands in the pockets of the jacket.
"If we were really trying to kidnap you, you would've been tied up and chloroformed," Stiles quipped.
Scott turned and looked at his friend. "And how do you plan on getting the chloroform?" His smile turned lopsided as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"I'll need a baseball bat, duck tape, thirty-nine nails and some barb wire." Scott laughed and returned his gaze to Faye.
"Did you sleep okay? I'm sorry, I didn't want to wake you and you were shivering so I gave you my jacket.
Faye blushed, the pink barely caressing her cheeks. "Thanks. You can have it back." She slid the jacket off of her arms and tossed it to Scott, who caught it in one hand. "What's with the van? And where's Jackson?"
Scott and Stiles exchanged glances and then looked back at Faye. "Open up the doors," Scott finally said.
Faye obliged and walked to the back of the van, swinging open the white doors. Jackson stared back at her, growling and the sides of his face a turning a sickly green. He was chained the the side of the van, but that didn't stop him from shaking the constraints and attempting to lunge towards Faye. Startled, she took a step back.
"I'm going to kill you all," Jackson snarled.
"Oh, so you know you're killing people?" Stiles retorted. "To death?"
"My parents will find me and all of you guys will be screwed! Sorry Stilinski, your dad can't save you now."
Stiles dug his hand into his back pocket and pulled out a phone. "Mommy and Daddy Whittemore can't find you if they don't think something's wrong!" With a mischievous smile on his face, the brunette began typing, his big fingers constantly sliding off of the glass screen. "And send!"
Jackson angrily swung his arms behind his back, the chains clanking against the metal wall of the van. "Let me go!" He hissed through his clenched teeth.
"Not a chance lizard boy," Stiles replied.
"Lizard? What the hell are you rambling about Stilinski?
Faye looked at Scott. "He really doesn't know," she whispered.
"Know what? What the hell is going on?"
"You don't remember anything?" Scott questioned, taking a step closer to the edge of the van. "You don't remember almost drowning Faye? You don't remember attacking Danny?"
"Also, don't forget, he almost killed me," Stiles added.
"I have absolutely no clue what you guys are talking about!
Before the blonde could reply, her voice box was cut off by the sound of her phone ringing. She sighed and quickly slid it open and nudged it between her shoulder and her ear as she began to walk away from the van.
"Faye? How are you doing? How was the sleepover? Will you be home soon?" Faye's mother inquired.
"I'm fine mom, the sleepover was good and I'll be home as soon as I can, I promise. I love you, I have to go."
Faye's mother sighed on the other line. "Alright dear. Please be safe and be home by dinner-"
"Or you're grounded!" Faye's father father yelled in the background.
"Be safe," Abigail finally said.
Faye hung up her phone and walked back to where Scott, Stiles and now Allison were. Allison gazed into Scott's eyes and leaned in, brushing her lips against his. Faye could see the corners of his mouth turns upwards as he wrapped his arms around Allison's waist.
"Ahem." Stiles cleared his throat and Faye watched as the couple pulled away.
"What was I saying?" Allison asked, her eyes flickering around her and Scott.
"Something about Jackson?" Scott responded.
Allison's eyes widened as she remembered her train of thought and she took a step away from Scott. "They know Jackson is missing. His parents-"
Before Allison could finish her train of thought, she was cut off by the static sound of the police radio. "All available units proceed to Beacon Hills Preserve as instructed. Proceed with caution until Sheriff Stilinski arrives." The radio went silent.
"Well shit," Faye finally said. Faye's words pulled Scott from his thoughts and he looked at Stiles. "Stiles, Allison, take the van away from here. I'm going to take Faye home. She doesn't need to be more involved in this."
Allison nodded and pecked Scott on the cheek before running over to Stiles and hopping into the van. Faye trailed behind Scott and pulled herself into the Jeep as he started the engine. The drive became utterly quiet and Faye made sure to bite her tongue so she wouldn't disturb the silence in it's drowning sleep. She wanted to defend herself and say she could take care of herself, bu how could she say that? She had no idea how dangerous she was to Scott and his friends and she didn't even know what she was.
"We'll take care of the kanima, Faye. You don't have to worry about anything." Scott finally said as they reached her house.
"This is my fight too, Scott. I have just as much to lose." Faye didn't look back as she hopped out of the Jeep and slammed the car door behind her. When she walked into the house, Faye's mother rushed to her and enveloped the blonde in a hug.
"Mom, you're squeezing all of the air out of me," Faye choked out, patting her mom's back. "You're hugging me like you thought you'd never see me again."
Abigail laughed and released her daughter. "Bad things have happened in this town Faye. I was just worried that you were in danger or-"
"Mom," Faye reassured. "I'm fine. No broken bones, no bruises, no cuts."
"I'm glad to hear that. Dinner's on the table. We're having fast food. Again."
"When is the moving truck coming?" Faye asked, following her mom into the kitchen and sitting down at the table where her dad was already eating.
"I don't know. We haven't heard anything from the company or the driver in days," Faye's father said after he finished swallowing.
"That's weird. Maybe's hes lost or something," Faye mumbled as she took a bite of her fast food salad.
Abigail locked eyes with her husband and he slowly shook his head. "Maybe," her mother finally said.
FAYE SAT on a sturdy cardboard box near the window. The cool night breeze drifted through the tree and through the window, dancing across Faye's skin. Her blue eyes glanced down at her hands. How could she be afraid of one part of herself? The moonlight gleamed on her pale skin, and the blonde could see her veins turning black and traveling up to her hands where the ashes clung desperately to her skin. She could feel the heat grow in her hands as she looked at the mirror's reflection.
The oceans in her eyes became fires. The heat soaked up the water like it was nothing and the blue evaporated without a second glance. The blonde's eyes trailed outside before she slammed the window shut and walked back to her dilapidated mattress. The black on her hands was slowly starting to fade away along with the heat that burned her veins. The lights in her room clicked off and Faye was left in the dark with the realization that the monster she tried so hard to keep hidden was officially apart of her.
