Song for this Chapter: Follow Me - Uncle Kracker (it really describes the relationship between Percy and Olivia currently)

Ch. 6 - Who Do You Think You Are?

The sound of the shout proclaiming Zeus's name had startled everyone. The voice was as a challenge, and we all knew - looking at one another - a battle of sorts had begun.

Zoë looked at Artemis for command then turned back to the others valiantly. "Continue as planned! Protect the demi gods." Nodding the dozen hunters each spotted a tree for cover and assessed the battle taking place on the cliff.

Quickly, Zoë pulled a horn from the satchel around her shoulder, the horn looked pale white as if made from an animal bone or a horn from one. Taking a deep draw of air, she pressed the horn to her lips and let out one silencing blow - causing the Manticore to freeze and glare at the trees in our direction.

Artemis pulled a silver arrow from her gleaming quiver, giving the Manticore a quick assessment with her eyes before turning to me with eyes wide. "Olivia, your hood - put it on." The determination behind her eyes made me nod and quickly pull the thick wool material over my head, hiding my face from view.

The last thing we wanted was for Percy and Annabeth to become distracted by seeing me alive. It would be fatal and the Manitcore would no doubt take advantage of their surprise.

The sound of helicopter blades chopping in the air was not far off, but the nervous voice of the Manticore still found it's way into my ears. "No... It cannot be -" The Manticore began, but before her could finish his sentence, Artemis released the first silver arrow, sinking it deep into the beast's shoulder.

In slight awe, I watched as a tail appeared from behind the beast, a tail of a scorpion - like the drawing Artemis had shown me depicted. "Curse you!" He wailed with an angry roar, sending a flurry of spikes towards our caravan - a sudden fight or flight urgency taken root inside me as I watched the menacing attack volley towards the trees.

However, before they even reached the trees, the Hunters all sent a wave of silver gleaming arrows out against the attack, some slicing the spikes into two pieces, stopping the attack before it could even hit any one.

Smirking a little, I took a small breath and strung an silver arrow, aiming it at the Manticore with my Sisters. Releasing my arrow with cautious fingers, I tried to remember everything that Artemis had taught me about the proper use of a bow and arrow. I grinned as I watched the gleaming silver sink deep into the Manitcore's shoulder, next to my Mother's warning shot.

I wasn't too great, but I was most definitely improving.

With a roar of anger and annoyance, the Manticore ripped the two arrows from his shoulder, stumbling a little before tossing them furiously onto the ground. A gleam of celestial bronze filled the corner of my eye as I turned my gaze onto Percy. He'd changed somehow. He looked different since the last time we'd met, older, better - but different none the less.

Drawing Riptide, Percy charged at the beast - but to no avail. I watched from the shadows, fist clenched tightly - knowing I couldn't risk giving myself away, not now - as the Manticore quickly dodged Percy's attack and slammed it's tail into his side, knocking him to the side, as if a pest in it's way.

Artemis was the first to advance from the cover of trees, then with Zoë in tow - causing every one else to follow suite, like the march of a perfectly in sync army of twelve, even I was currently in the flow of things - easily blending in.

Annabeth's grey eyes traveled over all of us with acknowledgment and respect. "The Hunters!" She cried with gratefulness, most likely because she felt we had rescued them.

I took my time watching the new girl standing valiantly besides the tired Percy. Just by her royal stance, I could tell that she was Thalia Grace, even the air around her sparked with electricity. She was dressed in all blacks, with dark make-up and a menacing scowl accompanied by an even more menacing shield - the face of Medusa. It brought back memories of fear in the garden, when I was on the first mission with Percy and Annabeth.

"Oh great, them...." Her blue eyes sparked dangerously. "Wonderful."

Elegantly side stepping forward and lifting her bow tightly, Zoë gave the Manticore a tight look, asking permission from my Mother before releasing her arrow. "Permission to kill, my lady?" Her aura seemed to intensify around her as she targeted the beast with a threatening scowl.

Outraged the Manticore growled and sent a threatening look at us all in general - not knowing who to address. "No fair, direct interference. It's against the Ancient Laws!" He hissed, eyes holding a malicious glint of a rabid dog in them.

Artemis, though being short in her twelve year old form, drew herself up taller - illuminating with authority and demanding respect. "You, beast, are a monster - and therefore are fair game to me - I am in charge of the Hunt, and you are what is to be hunted." She flashed her silvery yellow eyes onto Zoë and nodded briskly. "Permission granted."

"Then I'll kill them!" He wailed with a snarl and lunged himself at Thalia and Percy, both looked worn out and extremely exhausted.

"No!" Annabeth cried out, saying what I desperately was screaming in my heart - he couldn't kill them, not after I'd just gotten back. Suddenly, Annabeth lunged onto the back of the Manticore with a battle cry and begun hitting it in the head with everything she had.

"Get back, half-blood!" Zoë yelled at the blonde, but Annabeth ignored her, and instead took out her knife - stabbing into the back of the Manticore with a furious yell.

I felt the words leaving my mouth before I could stop myself. "Get out of the line of fire!" Luckily, Percy and Annabeth couldn't recognize my voice over the sound the Manticore howling in pain because of the wound Annabeth made.

Frowning, Zoë tossed her long black hair behind her shoulder and lifted her hand towards the others as a signal. "Fire!" She ordered.

I gasped, along with Percy and we both cried out in shock: "No!" However, there was nothing to be done about it. The hunters let the arrows fly, each finding some skin to sink into on the Manticore - plenty in the neck, others in the stomach.

With a roar of outrage, the Manticore took a few staggering steps backwards towards the cliff face. "This is not the end! You will pay for this." He spat, venomously. Before anyone could react, the beast jumped off the cliff.

I watched Annabeth tumble off the cliff, crying out: "Annabeth!" along with Percy who was aguishly staring down at the crushing grey waves where Annabeth and the Manticore had fallen. Just like that, she was gone.

Suddenly the sound of gunfire from the helicopter filled the air, they were firing at us. Drawing my hood closer to my face, I dodged behind the trees - getting out of the line of fire with the other Hunters.

Artemis glared up at the helicopter and stretched out her hand with a scowl on her face. "Mortals are not aloud to witness my hunt." She clenched her fist, and as she did - the black metal combusted into a cloud of crowd - scattering in the wind and flying in all different directions. I refused to let myself dwell on how many lives were lost in those few moments.

Once the dust had settled, Zoë stepped out from the shadows, me following behind, and she stopped short as her gazed fixed onto the girl with black hair and electrifying blue eyes, the one I assumed as being Thalia Grace. "You."

Eyes flashing dangerously, Thalia sent Zoë a glare and lifted her nose in the air with distaste. "Zoë Nightshade...." Her voice wavered with a loud anger. "Perfect timing. As usual."

My eyes scanned over the group of demi gods standing on the cliff side. With the exclusion of Annabeth, the number we had planned on saving had dwindled down. "Four demi gods and a satyr, M'Lady." I called towards Artemis gruffly - the thickness of my voice was both caused by the anxiety I was feeling and the unknowing for the safety of Annabeth. Luckily, it masked Percy and Grover from recognizing the sound.

"Yes... Some of Chiron's campers obviously." My Mother nodded, casting a nervous glance at me. She feared that I may do something drastic now that I was reunited with Percy. I honestly didn't know what to do. This wasn't really in the plans for me.... I'd thought I would perhaps see him in a few years after I'd gained more trust of the gods. Not now. I was awestruck at what Fate had in store.

As I assessed the demi gods, my eyes trailed over to the two new Campers I had never seen before - clearly new recruits. There was a girl who looked to be the age of 15 and a boy, obviously her brother, who looked 13. They both had silky black hair, olive skin, and black eyes that sparkled with a slight sense of either madness or genius.

The girl adjusted a floppy green cap on her head as she looked around at all the Hunters with a look of bewilderment, clearly no one had explained anything to either of them yet, however - I feared that this was the wrong place and time for explanations.

Percy let out a cry of disbelief. "Annabeth! You have to let us save her!" He yelled, the desperation in his voice making my insides clench a little with slight fear. It had been over a year... It was more than possible that Percy had moved onto Annabeth. How long could someone hold on to the thought of a dead girlfriend before getting sick and tired of waiting.

Artemis noticed my wince and she frowned a little, disappointed that I was able to be affected by men - this was one of my fatal flaws in her eyes. "I'm sorry Percy Jackson, but your friend is beyond help."

Percy swooned a little because of his injuries, but tried to get onto his feet. Shaking my head, I stalked up to him and held him down to the ground, his eyes plastered on to my Mother who began scolding him.

"You are in no condition to be hurling yourself off cliffs." Artemis sighed, giving him a pitying look, but nothing else to go by.

Grumbling under his breath, Percy shook me off and clambered towards the ledge. Quickly, I grabbed Percy by his collar as he made a move to through himself from the cliff in pursuit of Annabeth. Keeping my hood around my face so he wouldn't recognize me, I began to wonder in perhaps going on this Hunt in the first place had been the best idea.

"Let me go!" Percy yelled in my face, eyes searching the shadows that shrouded my face - trying to see what I looked like - but his eyes found no purchase. "Who do you think you are?"

Zoë's eyes widened with anger and she stepped forward, raising her hand as if to slap Percy across the face.

"No," Artemis stepped forward, motioning for Zoë to back down. "I sense no disrespect in his words towards me or my daughter - he is only distraught. He does not understand." Artemis nodded towards me as she said 'my daughter', making Percy raise a brow. The thought of a twelve year old child having a daughter would seem preposterous.

Artemis walked over beside me and looked up at Percy with authority illuminating from her every pore. "I am Artemis. Goddess of the Hunt." Her eyes rested on me for a second before letting out a low sigh. "We have been acquainted before, as you most likely remember."

Percy stumbled a little and blinked a few times. "Wait, you said 'me or my daughter' - but that would mean..." His seaweed green eyes lifted towards my grey hood as I bowed my head with nervousness eating me alive. "That would mean..." He repeated, turning towards me and lifting a shaky hand, he pulled the hood from my head softly letting it fall to rest at my shoulders.

For a moment, there was a heart stopping pause. "O-Olive."

His calloused hand brushed across my cheek, feeling the smoothness of my cheek - the absence of scars, the curse of Aphrodite. I had lost my identity - he probably could barely recognize me. As his eyes stared into mine, I felt myself leaking. Slowly, tears cascaded down my face, making me feel a mixture of both embarrassment and an over whelming sense of home

Percy breathed out a shocked gust of air as he traced his thumbs over my cheeks with his shaky hands, wiping away my tears. "Olive." He smiled softly and wrapped me in a tight hug, I almost could have sworn I felt a warm tear fall my neck as he buried his face against me, but I could not be for sure - and honestly I wouldn't have seen it as a sign of weakness.

In the corner of my eye, I could see Thalia's eyes widen in shock as she took me in. "Olive.... Awesome." She grinned, an new air of excitement shrouding her, and confusing me for a second.

Artemis furrowed her brow and gave us a disgusted look, pursing her lips and averting her eyes. She knew there was nothing to be done on the matter currently. Zoë's usually small smile was gone and she was frowning at the scene as well - probably wondering how my Mother could possibly put up with this contact.

"I've missed you so much." Percy mumbled to me, breaking the hug to grab something out of his pocket. My letter and a small bead. "These, I knew you'd show up one day - I kept them for you."

Chuckling with a watery smile, I rubbed my eyes and shook my head. "That letter was for you to keep." As I looked at the paper, I noticed how worn and over used it was. It dawned on me that this was the first time I had actually seen Percy since I blocked Luke's knife on the roof from him. I must have put him through hell.

"I've missed you too." I nodded and hugged him once more - placing a nervous kiss on his cheek. Much time had passed, and while we had both missed each other for the longest time... That didn't change the fact that I still cared very much for him, and he could have possibly moved on. Time changes people.

The new girl cleared her throat and stepped forward, breaking the awkward silence. "Sorry to interrupt your moment... But what the heck is going on?"

Dedicated to: theotherday for the awesome cover, everyone really loved both - but your won in the end - you really captured Olivia's personality!
