Pet Names and Old Friends

It's been two days and you've never felt better. The fever had died down and the once sore muscles and aching joints were now relaxed as you stretched with a yawn.

Today was cloudy weather, just the way you like it. No bright sun blinding you and no rain showers to make you sick again.

"Princess, your brother's coming." Ace alerts you from the doorway.

You sigh, as much as you try to convince yourself that he was just a figment of your imagination created by the fever, he wouldn't go away even though you felt tons better. "Hey Chopper." You greet, not looking at the door but you knew he was there because Ace has never lied to you once about anything, so you believe him.

"H-How are you feeling?" He asks, hiding his face behind the door frame with his body sticking out. "Mom was wondering about your condition."

You smile sweetly at him, trying to get him to relax. "I'm feeling better. I think my fever is gone by now." You declare proudly and pump a fist into the air.

Chopper nods and runs off down the stairs, calling for your foster mother and telling her that you were fine.

"Your dad is really going through with the whole vacation thing." Ace smirks, eyes watching the staircase. "I heard that he was going to invite some buddies along."

"Yeah...There's no avoiding that really. I can't say no either so might as well go along with it." You shrug.

Ace laughs as he walks over to your bed, he pokes your forehead and grins. "I spent so much time taking care of you and you still don't have any energy for anything."

You blush as you remember him spending the past two days watching over you, like your own personal guardian angel. "I never did thank you, did I?" You murmur, mostly to yourself rather than at him.

He tilts his head and blinks, "Thank me for what?"

"You know, taking care of me and stuff." You blush and look down, your fingers fumbling with your (F/C) nightgown.

"No thanks needed. It was my pleasure, princess."

You sigh in annoyance, "I told you my name is (Name), not princess."

"Oh, I know." He smirks, tilting your chin up to meet his gaze. "I just enjoy calling you princess is all."

You frown at him and move your head away from his hand. The expression you gave him was suppose to be scary, but he started chuckling like he just saw an angry fluffy kitten. You huff in annoyance and cross your arms, which was only making you look more adorable in his eyes.

"Do you prefer to be called something else?" Ace inquires after seeing your annoyed expression. "Bambi? Doll Face? Oh, how about—"

"How about—" You look at him dead in the eye and smirk. "—(Name)?"

He psh-ed at you and plopped on your bed. His ghostly weight made the space underneath him sink slightly. Since it was cloudy today, his skin wasn't as transparent, making him appear more alive than an apparition.

"Well, what about Flower?" Ace asks, his head facing towards you.

"Why would you nickname me after a flower?" You ask back. Resting your cheek on your palm, you sigh, "Actually why bother nicknaming me at all? Isn't my normal name enough?"

Ace pouts and rolls to his side, his body now lying on his stomach and his cheek on his fist, he rolls his eyes at you. "I thought girls like getting pet names from guys?"

"Sure, if they're in a relationship." You shrug and he smiles at you. "We are not in a relationship." You quickly added, making Ace pout.

"Aww, come on. We could try!" He huffs.

You raise your brow at him and cross your arms. "You have figured out by now that you're a ghost, right?"

Ace thinks for a moment then shrugs. "I don't really feel like I died." He admits.

"Maybe it was one of those unexpected accidents?" You thought out loud. He looks at you with a questioning gaze. "I've heard that when some people die unexpectedly, their spirits wander the earth because they didn't know that they even died."

He blinks at your explanation before shaking his head and chuckling. "Yeah, maybe I'm one of them."

"No no. We should go here first!" Franky argues, pointing at an island on the large world map that was pinned to the kitchen wall. Robin frowns.

You and Chopper sweat drop as you try to continue your meal in peace. "I'm telling you, Robin, it'll be great experience for the kids!" Franky says.

They've been at it for a while now and you figured that they were already done with this argument yesterday. Apparently Robin disagrees with Franky's choice of location as she stubbornly taps at another island on the map.

"Experience for you, perhaps, not the kids." She huffs. "We are going here."

From beside you, you could almost hear Chopper whimpering. Your little brother seemed to be scared of the two of them. You sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose, "Ro—Err, I mean, Mom," You corrected. "I think that we need to find somewhere you both agree to."

Chopper nods rapidly, agreeing to your suggestion as the two adults look at each other.

"We don't agree much though." Franky admits and scratches his head. Robin just sighs and sits back down.

"U-Um, I kinda wanted to go somewhere..." Chopper whispers so softly that is was barely audible. He looks at you and smiles a bit, "The new amusement park."

Franky and Robin blink, that wasn't a bad idea actually. "Thriller Bark anyone?" Franky smirks, gesturing to the island just a few miles away from the city with a small logo of a pirate ship amusement park.

You and Chopper grin at each other, "YEAH!"

So that was the story of how you and your foster family got into this situation. You sat at the back of the RV truck watching Chopper play with a dark haired boy a little younger than you were. He was energetic, cheerful, and hella loud. You covered your ears as he screams your name at the top of his lungs.

"COME AND PLAY WITH US!!!" He shouts, even though you were only a few feet away from where he sat. He and Chopper were in the middle of playing Snakes & Ladders.

"No...thank you..." You mumble uneasily. It's not like you hated him or anything but it was just because you weren't much of a sociable person.

Yes, you are socially awkward.

"Straw Hat-ya, I think you're scaring her." Another dark haired boy sighs exasperatedly, his arms folded on his chest. He was a tanned guy around your age with a small goatee and tattoos.

You wondered why, why in the world would Chopper be friends with these two, they were practically polar opposites. Straw Hat looked at the other boy, the one with a shizload of tattoos that made him look ten times hotter than he already was, and he pouted childishly.

"But Tra-Guy she looks so lonely sitting there!" He says.

"Trafalgar." The tattoo boy corrects him, cleared his throat and looks over at you. "You alright over there by yourself?"

You blink, blushing slightly from staring at him too much and quickly avert your eyes before he notices. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine."

"No, you're not!" Straw Hat retorts and stomps over to the bed you were sitting on. "You're too quiet!"

"And you're too loud." You mutter as he grabs your wrist and pulls you along, setting you firmly down on the floor beside Chopper.

Chopper looked a bit worried when he saw the dark aura coming out of you as you glare slightly at the Straw Hat boy. "Luffy, maybe it's not a good idea to force (Name) to do something she doesn't want to." He whimpers.

From in front of the massive truck (if you've watched Meet the Fockers then their truck looks kinda like that), a clear door slides open and Robin walks out with a blonde man. She sees your frowning and glances over at Luffy. "Luffy, go easy on her. She isn't used to this kind of environment." Robin explains to him.

The blonde man takes out a pink boogie board and writes something down, showing it to Trafalgar. "Be nice to her Law."

Law frowns at him. "I am being nice." He mutters through gritted teeth. When your family picked him up from his house earlier, he didn't seem all too happy about the whole 'family & friends vacation' thing.

A man with red hair emerged from the clear doors of the front of the truck, followed by a friendly woman with green hair. "Oi, Luffy, don't do anything stupid once we're there." He tells Straw Hat boy with a grin.

"Since when did I do something stupid?!" Luffy frowns at him. "You're mean uncle Shanks!"

Shanks just laughs it off while Makino smiles sweetly.

Unlike Law, who was grumpy throughout the entire trip, Luffy was a ball of unlimited energy that wouldn't sit in one place unless there was food involved.

Robin had explained to you that Luffy's father was rarely home so he lived with his uncle and aunt, Shanks and Makino, while Law's family died a long time ago and he was adopted by the blonde guy named Corazon. In a way, they're sorta like you.

"Hey, you okay?" A familiar voice calls out, snapping you out from your thoughts and look to the source.

"Ace?" You gasp at the raven haired male sitting beside you. "How did you—I thought you said you couldn't leave the room."

Ace shrugs, leaning his shoulder against your own, "I thought so too. But when you left the house, I..." He trails off and frowns. "I just couldn't bear the thought of being apart from you... and suddenly I ended up here."

You shook your head and sighed, not from annoyance but from relief, smiling slightly to yourself at how ridiculous it was of you to feel mutual about it. "Thanks."

Law blinks at you, "Thanks for what exactly?"

"Erm, thanks for trying to be nice to me...?" You laugh nervously, hoping he would take the bait. Upon noticing his smirk, you relax a bit and smile at him. You weren't going to hide the fact that you were sorta attracted to him. He is pretty handsome... and that made Ace scowl at you.

"What?" You whisper lowly, only loud enough for Ace to hear.

"Didn't think you were into guys like him." He mutters irritably.

"Jealous?" You tease.

"Shut up." He mumbles and proceeds to glare at Law.

Even though you've been with me for only a short while, it feels really nice to know that you're there... even if you are a ghost that only I can see...
