Chapter 3

Sorry in advance if the story has some typos and such. I didn't really had time to look over it. Sorry!

Everyone were staring at the two boys who refused to even look at each other.

It saddened Minato to know that his teachings were in vain up to that moment. However that did not meant that he will not talk about this face to face with them.

Obito gulped as he saw the look on his Sensei's face. It wasn't an everyday thing to see their Sensei frown. As a matter if fact, they never actually managed up to that point, to make their Sensei this disappointed in them. It ate Obito alive and it seemed he wasn't the only one who felt the same about it.

"A team's most important thing is teamwork. Without it, you might as well go solo, since it's the same thing." Minato finally broke the silence, making his three students jump a little.

"I tried! You saw it too, Sensei! I tried, I even swallowed my pride just to make it happen! And yet, he is just so-urgh!" Obito said as he crossed his arms, a visible frown now on his face.

Minato sighed.

"This isn't just about Kakashi, Obito. This is about you too. You have to listen to your captain's orders and not just go against the rules like that. However, Kakashi was also out of line. Kakashi, you're first priority as the team captain is first and foremost, your team's safety."

Kushina and Tsunade nod, whereas Jiriaya and Fugaku only gave Minato an approving look.

"You said it yourself, Kakashi; a shinobi must not show emotion. However, the decision you took was all because of White Fang." At that, Kakashi's eyes widened a little bit, as no one before brought his father into discussion.

"It's actually pretty sad." Tsunade said as she stared at the ground. "The shinobi world forces children to go to war. They aren't ready to make decisions like this. The mission's success or the life of your comrade. That's just..."

Minato smiled sadly as he looked upon his three students. He sat back down next to Kushina and looked at hooded man.

"I believe we still have to finish what we started." Minato said. The man only gave him a small nod before the screen started to show images again.

The ground was rumbling as huge rocks and boulders were thrown at the Konoha shinobi's. Not many of them were left alive unfortunately; some dying at the very moment.

'Is this the Kannabi Bridge?' Minato thought but it seemed that many had the same thought.

Minato ran towards the ninja's that remained alive. They all seemed pretty tired and most probably, out of chakra. The enemy was strong, that was for sure. But they were only strong because of their number.

"Kami-sama... It's been a while since I've seen this much blood." Tsunade said as she moved uncomfortably in her chair. Jiraiya gave her a little glare before looking back at the screen.

'She doesn't like blood that much since those incidents...' He thought to himself.

"What's the situation?" Minato asked as he jumped next to the captain. The man next to him sighed as he looked towards the battlefield, avoiding getting hit in the head by a huge rock.

"There's about fifty enemies. On the other hand, we're down to four men." Bodies lying around the ground wasn't the only thing that made this a nightmare. Most of the ninja's left alive were already accepting their end by now.

"That's just- horrible, dattebane!" Kushina said as she began to feel a little worried.

The others nod in agreement.

But with Minato there, the enemy wouldn't even know what was waiting for them. They might be 50 but Minato makes up for 100.

"Everyone, please throw these kunai at the enemy's side concurrently. Afterwards, I'll care of this by myself." Minato explained as he laid on the ground his special kunai's.

"No matter what, this is just insane!" Someone said rather loudly.

"Shut up and do as he says. We'll be able to see Konoha's Yellow Flash in action now. Don't blink even for a second." The captain said, making the other look at Minato in awe.

"Yeah but still... Can you stop being so reckless for once?" Kushina said as she gave Minato a glare.

Minato let out a small laugh and looked back at the screen.

Obito, unlike Kushina, was very intrigued by this. Their sensei was going to take down 50 men all at once?! He knew his sensei was strong, but it never crossed his mind that he'll be that strong.

The scenery changed to Kakashi who was now advancing forward. Jumping on the branches, his arm suddenly was filled with pain.

The memory of Rin's words haunted him and so did Obito's. Deeply down inside him, he knew that Obito, even though, most of the time, he is an idiot, this time, he said something right.

Obito grinned at the screen. Finally Kakashi felt some remorse!

But Kakashi already knew what was going to happen. Obito said enough to make Kakashi change his point of view. What Obito from the present doesn't know is that his future self managed to impress him too. He saw Obito differently now. Not just a scum as he used to see him.

And yet, the thought of his father was the most haunting memory that crossed his mind. He was about to repeat the same mistake his father did; a mistake, his father, had to pay with his life.

The scenery changed to Obito who was standing outside a cave. He just found the enemy's hideout. He gulped as he looked at the mysterious cave.

'This is it.' He thought. 'Calm down, you can do this.' His shaky hands were telling him otherwise

Taking a deep breath, he slapped his cheeks slightly, to freshen up, before grabbing a kunai and getting ready for the surprise attack. Little did he realized that by doing so, he literally warned the enemy of his presence there.

And the respect is gone.

Kakashi face palmed at that whereas the others just tried to not laugh at it. It was a serious situation after all.

"Good job Obito. Nice stealth skills." Kakashi said sarcastically making Obito go red. "Shut up! I wasn't thinking!" Obito defended himself.

Rin smiled at that. Maybe it seemed like just a rude remark but this is what bonded them together.

Inside the cave, Rin was tied up to a rock, being under a strong genjutsu. The two Hidden Stone ninja's were waiting impatiently for the girl to give them some sort of information but to their disappointment, she wasn't giving them anything.

Everyone frowned at that.

"You're a pretty skilled kunoichi to not give them information, even if you are under a genjutsu, Rin. Good job." Tsunade prised her making her smile a little.

A sudden sound made the two of them look towards the exit of the cave.

"I'll handle this." The taller ninja said as he disappeared in thin air.

His jutsu allowed him to become invisible to the human's eyes. This jutsu was probably the reason why he was so powerful in the first place.

"So his jutsu allows him to become invisible to human's eye. That's quite a troublesome ability he got there." Jiraiaya said as he rubbed his chin.

As Obito was about to jump from the tree, a sudden attack was thrown at him. Before he even had time to act, a sword appeared out of nowhere in front of him, blocking the first attack.

It was Kakashi.

Obito clapped his hands and looked other Kakashi.

"Well, I apologize to what I've said. I guess you aren't a heartless being after all." Obito smiled slightly making Kakashi nod.

"Same here."

"Kakashi?" Obito asked a little shoked. What was he doing here? Didn't he just gave him a good ten minutes speech on how you shouldn't abandon the mission over a teammate?

"I figured I shouldn't just leave you guys like that." Kakashi said as he helped Obito to stand up.

"The White Fang?!" The enemy gasped as he saw the sword the white haired boy had in his hands.

"Okay, he got the strength but not the brains. He's been dead for years! And not to mention that Kakashi is a little shorter than Sakumo." Tsunade shook her head.

"It can't be... He's dead."

"This." Kakashi began as he gripped the sword much tighter, "Is a memento of my father!"

Obito's eyes sparkled at that. He never saw Kakashi act this way. He looked so proud to mention his father. He never did that. He was actually seeing a nice friendship with this guy, whoever he was.

The enemy let out a scoff at that.

"So you're White Fang's brat. Well then, I have no reason to worry then." The ninja disappeared once again, leaving no trace behind him.

'Big mistake you've done. Kakashi is probably more skilled than you are. But that jutsu...' Minato thought as he looked more closely at the screen.

Kakashi and Obito looked around for any kind of movement.

"As I suspected. Even his scent had vanished. I guess the only way we can fight this guy is by sound." Kakashi deducted.

"And it gets even better!" Jiraiya laughed.

"Why are you laughing?" Tsunade asked annoyed.

"I love to see people struggle over small things, is that bad?"

But there was no absolute sound. Everything seemed too normal for their own good. Obito and Kakahi looked around, with their guard up at their highest level.

Kakashi suddenly sensed a presence behind him and quickly tried to dodge the upcoming attack but he wasn't fast enough. The sharp end of the kunai went through his left eye, across his face.

"What were you saying Jiraiya? Small things? Hmmm?" Tsunade asked as she leaned towards him.

"Ouch..." Obito said quietly. "I guess you didn't... see that one coming, huh?"

And with that, everyone looked at Obito.

"You just had to say that, didn't you?" Tsunade asked a little annoyed whereas Jiriaiya burst out laughing.

"Guys, come on! This is a serious event, dattebane!"

He let out a yelp as his hands immediately went to the cut.

"Kakashi!" Obito yelled as he kneeled in front of him.

Kakashi fell on his knees because of the pain. Clenching his fist, he let out a small hiss and opened his other eye.

"Urgh - It's alright. I sill have the medical kit that Rin gave me. But my left eye is done for..." He said before taking a small look at Obito who now had small tears in his eyes. "What are you crying for?" Kakashi asked quietly as he pulled out his kit.

"Never thought it was that bad..." Jiraiaya mumbled feeling a little regret that he laughed earlier.

As Kakashi did his best to fix himself up, Obito was in deep thoughts.

'I'm always waiting for someone to save me. The only thing I've done so far was to cry.' Obito thought.

'He might as well awaken his Sharingan.' Fugaku smiled a little at the thought. His nephew always dreamed of this moment.

Just as he was thinking that, the shinobi charged right at them. Because of his jutsu, he had a direct hit at the two of them. His first target was Obito. That was his mistake.

'But this time... This time, I will save my friends!'

And just like that, Obito's sharingan activated. Obito immediately grabbed his kunai and killed the man who was right behind him.

"Obito!" Rin gasped as she clapped her hands together in excitement.

Obito smiled brightly at the screen. This was the moment he waited for. He looked at his eyes for a while. He wondered what it was like too see through them.

"I had faith in you that you could do it." Minato smiled at him as he placed his hand on Obito's shoulder.

"Well done, Obito." Fugaku praised him.

Obito's heart completely stopped. Now, this never happened before so naturally he didn't really knew how to react. So he just smiled at his uncle and thanked him. Inside he was totally freaking out.

"How did you-" Kakashi couldn't even find words to explain how Obito was able to know that the enemy was there, yet alone to kill him.

"Your eyes..." The Hidden Stone ninja said before dying right on the spot.

Kakashi stood up and looked at Obito who now turned around. His eyes were different, even his expression. Obito was also starting to figure what just happened. He finally activated his sharingan.

"Obito! Your eyes-"

"Yeah, I know... So this is the sharingan. I can see my chakra flow." Obito said as he looked at his hands.

'Interesting.' Obito thought. 'Arghh! I look so cool saving Kakashi's ass for once!'

Kakashi didn't say anything after that. Both of them were still in shock at what just happened.

"Come on. Let's go save Rin." Kakashi finally spoke up as he looked towards the cave.

Rin and Minato smiled at the screen. It was refreshing to see Kakashi and Obito getting along for once.

"See, it isn't that hard, dattebane." Kushina giggled. She knew exactly how Minato must of felt. This was definitely a huge improvement for the team.

Kakashi however, unlike Obito who still tried at least to not give him a few nasty glares once in a while, he was quiet the entire time. He didn't really know how to react. Was it okay to be friends now? Or Obito hates him? Were they really like oil and water as he previous said?

Inside the cave, Rin was still under the genjutsu. The other Hidden Stone ninja was having a hard time gathering intel from her.

As he was about to sigh, he immediately turned around as he sensed a presence at the entry.

"Defeated by some brats..." He then said after he saw Obito and Kakashi. "He was a good for nothing anyway." He then shrugged. "I guess I just have to take you down myself."

"I have a feeling he's as dumb as the last one." Tsunade said making Jiraiya and Kushina nod.

Minato however, he sensed danger. He didn't really know why, but there was a reason this was being shown. He knew he shouldn't think of the worst right from the start, but something wasn't going to go as planned.

Something was about to happen.

Just as he said that, he threw his kunais at the two boys. Kakashi and Obito quickly dodged the attack and jumped in the air.

"I'll take care of him! Go and get Rin!" Kakashi told Obito.

Obito ran towards Rin who was tied up. Judging by the fact that her chakra was distorted, he realized she was probably under a genjutsu.

"Release!" And like that, Rin opened her eyes and saw Obito in front of her.

"Obito... Kakashi..." She said quietly as she looked at the two. Kakashi by now finished off the guy and was next to Obito.

"Yay! Good job Obito!" Kushina leaned a little forward and slapped Obito's back. Obito immediately felt pain and tried to not let any kinds of sounds.

"T-thanks..." He said under his breath as he tried to alter the pain somehow. Minato only gave him an empathetic look.

"Come on. Let's go." Obito said as he gave her his hand for support. She gladly took it.

As they were about to exit the cave, once they passed the corpse of the man, the man turned out to be very much alive.

"Earth Style: Rock Collapse!"

"Oh no..." Tsunade accidentally said out loud.

Kushina's eyes widened and so did Jiraiya's. Minato only closed his eyes and let out a sigh. He knew something was about to happen. But not this.

He just hoped nothing were to happen to his students.

The three young shinobi let out a gasp. The ceiling was begging to collapse and the exit was beginning to get blocked by rocks.

Kakashi, Rin and Obito watched silently as the rocks began to fall from the ceilings. Just like their sensei, they had the same fear.

Rin, unconsciously held Obito's hand making him blush a little. But what Obito's pride didn't know was that she was holding Kakashi's hand as well. She just wanted to feel like they were in the same team again.

"Run!" Kakashi yelled.

The trio ran for their lives but as they were running, a rock fell from the ceiling right on Kakashi's head, knocking him out.

Rin held Kakashi's hand tighter. She knew what was going to happen to him next. Everyone knew.

Kushina and Tsunade were giving Kakashi a few glares before looking back at the screen.

"Kakashi!" Obito yelled as he saw his teammate not moving. He jumped next to him but then realized something.

A boulder was about to fall from the ceiling and there was no time.

Rin dropped their hands and placed her own hand on her mouth. This was all because of her!

Obito, clenching his teeth, he threw Kakashi away from harm's way before it was too late.

Minato clenched his fist.

What a sensei he was. He was letting his students die.

Kushina felt his discomfort and placed her hand on top of his. She gave him a short smile before looking back at the screen.

The jutsu stopped and there was a dead silence in the air. It was almost impossible to see because of the dust. Kakashi and Rin were lying next to each other whereas Obito's location was unknown.

"Are you alright... Rin? Kakashi?" Obito's voice was heard.

Rin's and Kakashi's eyes widened. Obito was lying on the ground, under a boulder, covered in blood and almost dead.

Rin let out a cry and accidentally, so did Kushina.

"Obito!" Rin said before looking at the Obito next to her and then back at the screen.

She held his hand fearing that he might somehow disappear.

Tsunade and Jiraiya were having a hard time to digest this as well. Obito might be just a an annoying brat but he was still just a child nobody deserves this.

"Obito!" The two yelled as they ran to his side.

Kakashi tried to move the boulder away but it was too heavy. The feeling of regret and guilt was begging to eat him up.

"It's alright Kakashi... I can't feel my right side anymore." Obito said quietly.

The next thing that happened surprised many but not all. Kakashi actually began to tear up. He felt regret as well.

If only he didn't act that way, they wouldn't have been in that situation. They would've saved Rin much faster.

And with that, Kakashi started to cry. He punched the ground as he began to sob.

"Damn it! If only I listened to you from the begging, this wouldn't have happened! What a Jounin I am!" Kakashi yelled.

Obito was actually surprised for once.

'Is this how Kakashi felt this entire life?' Obito took a look at Kakashi and really paused for a moment.

Kakashi was silently crying.

Obito stood up making all the people in the room look at him, including Kakashi. He then walked over to him and sat down next to him, making Minato and Rin look surprised at him.

Obito gave Kakashi a small smile before looking back at the screen.

"Obito." Rin cried as she held Obito's hand.

Rin felt the pain in her voice. She closed her eyes for a moment. This was too much for her.

She was blaming herself.

"That reminds me... I was the only one that didn't gave you a gift for your promotion." Obito remembered. "I was too stubborn to buy you something and plus I didn't actually know what to get you." Kakashi looked at Obito confused. Does Obito actually think he cares about that?

"Obito... I don't think Kakashi would care about that anymore." Kushina whispered.

Obito only smiled at the screen and didn't say anything making Kakashi and the others wonder what he was thinking about.

"But I think I know what to give you now. Don't worry it isn't some lame gift." Obito began to cough making Rin and Kakashi jump a little.

"I'm giving you my left eye. That way, after I die, you'll be my eye to this world."

"I couldn't possibly accept something like this." Kakashi said quietly. Obito just gave him a look before speaking up.

"I wouldn't give it to anyone else actually..." Obito said as he looked in another direction.

Kakashi let out a gasp whereas Rin wimped away her tears.

'Nice, Rin. You truly have that in your blood. You'll become an amazing medical ninja.' Tsunade thought.

Minato just continued to stare at the screen. This still didn't made any sense. If Obito was the 'main problem' why is the shinobi standing next to the screen showing them his death?

Was Obito destined to really die there?

"Rin will replace your left eye with this one using medical ninjutsu." Obito explained.

"No, I can't-"

"Kakashi, come. We don't have much time." Rin said as she was getting ready for the surgery.

"Kakashi, I'm going to die."

And with that, Kakashi stepped forward.

"Man, and I thought we were the ones with more experience..." Jiraiya said as he leaned on his back, stretching his arms.

"You're the one to talk!" Tsunade said angrily.

"Still, I can't actually-" Kakashi stared but was stopped by Minato.

"Just accept it, Kakashi. Plus, it is not written in stone that is your guys future. We can change it." Minato said before glaring at the hooded man who nod at them.

Kakashi closed his mouth. It was true. This wasn't going to happen again, but he still felt guilty for what he saw.

Outside, the man, who they previous fought, stood quietly on the ground as he waited for any kind of survivor.

"Ehh. And just as I finally found some information. Well, it can't be helped." He shrugged before he began to walk away.

'If I see this man during the mission, I'll kill him myself.' Minato thought.

Kakashi jumped from the cave making the other shinobi jump a little.

"Oh? You're a stubborn one, aren't you?" The Hidden Stone ninja smirked. "What a crybaby. Don't you know that a ninja mustn't show his tears?"

And with that, Kakashi gripped his sword and opened his left eye. Instead of having a normal eye like his right, he now had a Sharingan. The enemy paused for a second.

"You look pretty cool Kakashi." Obito smiled at the screen, admiring his- now Kakashi's- Sharingan.

Kakashi still didn't understood what was with that change of attitude from Obito. He gave him a look before looking back at the screen.

"Something's different about you." The man said before charging at him.

"Is he seriously blind? Can't he see that Kakashi has the Sharingan now? What the hell?" Tsunade said annoyed.

Inside the cave, Rin was holding Obito's hand as they both waited patiently for Kakashi to return.

The enemy's head suddenly appeared at the entrance, making Rin grip Obito's hand a little tighter.

"Wait what?" Jiraiya asked confused. The others only furrowed their brows and continued on watching.

"Calm down, Rin." Obito said as he tried to smile.

The enemy fell on the ground, Kakashi appearing behind him. Obito finally felt a little relieved. He let out a cough and tried to escape Rin's grip.

"I knew it." Obito whispered.

"Kakashi... Take Rin and go. More reinforcements are coming." Obito broke the silence making Rin gasp.

Kushina let out a sigh.

"This is too much. I can't watch him die like that." She mumbled.

"I can't just leave you here, Obito!" Rin yelled at him. "You must... Both of you should get out of here, quickly!"

Outside, the reinforcements already arrived. Using the same jutsu that made this happen, the rocks began to collapse again.

Rin hesitated to leave Obito there but there was no choice left. With tears in their eyes, they both watched the rocks fall on the remaining parts of Obito, covering him up completely.

Kushina and Rin closed their eyes as they watched Obito's face getting covered.

'And just as Kakashi and I were begging to get along... I couldn't even bring myself to confess to Rin either. What a pathetic way to die. Well, I guess it can't be helped. I wish... I would've had more time in this world.' Obito thought before the last rock covered him from the outside light.

Obito's face turned bright red. He was completely embarrassed.

He now wished he was dead.

"Hey what the hell! You didn't needed to add my monologue as well! We could've lived without it!" Obito yelled at the hooded figure making a few people in the room let out a small giggle through their tears.

Kakashi and Rin tried to run away but the enemy was catching up. Kakashi knew that he had to protect Rin. It was his final promise to Obito.

He stopped running away making Rin do the same thing. She looked confused at him and a little scared.

"What are you doing Kakashi?" She asked a little worried. "Just go! I promised Obito I'll protect you... Even if that means my death!"

"But-"

"He made me promise that because he had feelings for you, Rin! He cared for you! So just let him rest in peace and find a place somewhere safe!"

"Oh come on..." Obito couldn't even face Rin now.

Rin gulped. It took a while but agreed to his terms. As she ran away, Kakashi took out his last weapon he had on him. The kunai that his sensei gave it to him.

His father's sword was by now destroyed thanks to his last fight. He had no choice left but to fight with this kunai.

He charged forward and with that, everything went black.

"What?! What happened?" Tsunade yelled at the screen.

"Did we just witnessed another death?" Jiriaya said out loud making the young Chunin's give him a glare.

The screen was black. It took a few moments before it began to show the surroundings. Kakashi was begging to wake up.

'I am dead?' He thought.

"Probably." Jiraiya shrugged.

He immediately opened his eyes. He was no longer in the forest but on a rock, in a valley full of flowers. The sky was dark and the stars were flickering making it look like the sky was filled with glitter.

Next to him, sat his sensei, who was looking at the valley. His head turned towards Kakashi who was holding his head.

"Hmm? Looks like you're awake." Minato said.

Kakashi immediately realized what just happened. Where was the enemy? Obito...

"Sensei? But how?" Kakashi asked

Minato smiled at him and held the kunai he used to battle those ninja's back in the forest.

"This kunai is a marker for my Transportation Technique. It acts like a beacon if used."

'I knew it would come in handy...' Minato thought to himself.

"Nice gift, Minato. A real lifesaver." Jiraiya praised his student.

"And the enemy?" Kakashi's eyes widened. "I took care of them." Minato answered.

"And Rin? Where's Rin?!" Minato pointed towards the valley, where Rin was standing, looking at the stars. Kakashi felt a little relieved but still felt absolutely terrible.

'Oh man, now I feel really bad...' Obito thought. 'It feels so weird to know that you're dead. It even weirder when people start to talk about you.'

His teammate just died...

"I'm sorry I didn't make it in time, Kakashi. Rin told me everything."

The Third Great Ninja war has left many scars behind and many deaths in its way. Great heroes and brave men had sacrificed everything they had for their country. But unfortunately some of them can only be found written on a certain stone.

The scene showed a stone. Many flowers and candles were next to it. On the stone one name stood on top of all. Obito Uchiha.

Everyone held their breath at the last scene. It was just sad.

Everyone looked at Obito who was looking at his hands. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to react to his own death. It wasn't something he thought he would see today.

"Obito-" Kakashi stared but was cut off by Obito who stood up and stretched his hands.

"Well that was absolutely depressing." He laughed, receiving a few mournful looks from the others. "I guess the universe couldn't take it anymore." He  joked. "I mean, you and me Kakashi? Getting along? It was too much. The universe decided to cut the friendship short." He continued his forced laughter.

"Now, Obito, I'm sure that isn't the reason why, dattebane." Kushina began. "I believe that your death deepened the bond between the two of you..." She finished.

"I want to apologize." Kakashi said out of nowhere, walking next to Obito. Obito raised his brows at that. "All this time, I was kind of an asshole from what I saw. I wanted to apologize for what I've said today and in the past."

Obito smiled.

"It's okay. I knew it was because of a reason. Now I know why." He replied.

"So, friends?" Kakashi asked as he offered his hand for a handshake. Obito gladly accept it. "Friends."

There was a small pause after that. Everyone smiled at the two. It was weird how just from watching these videos, someone like Obito and Kakashi were making up for everything that happened so far. It was actually a good change for once.

"He didn't, did he?" Minato asked making Rin and Kushina gasp. Tsunade, Jiraiya and Fugaku furrowed their eyes at that.

"You'll see. Next we have something a bit different. We're jumping a little from the event. A few years for a fact." The hooded man said.

"This is about to get interesting." Jiraiya said.

'You have no idea.' The stranger thought before performing the jutsu on the screen.
