Chapter 3 - Social Media Kills
The ride back with Seth feels like it always used to - it's weird, but I enjoy these short moments on the motorbike with him. It's just us, speeding along the more or less empty streets, turning corners quickly. I'm surprisingly never scared we're going to have an accident. I trust him.
We're there in under ten minutes, when it takes me almost half an hour walking, and twenty minutes in the car if it's rush hour. That's one of the great things about motorbikes. You can dodge through the traffic, be the first at traffic lights. And, since Seth is doing the hard work, I get to pull faces at taxi drivers while clinging on for my life. It's great.
I also enjoy it because we're so close. I remember how freaked out I was the first time, when I realized to ride with him I'd have to sit so close to him and put my arms around him, too. It was scary. But now it's comforting. If I'm tired, I can rest my head against his back. He doesn't mind, though I know he feels it.
Seth pulls over in front of my house, turning sharply at the last minute. I punch his shoulder softly. It's scary when he does that. "Seth!" I exclaim.
"Zoe!" He mimics, turning off the engine and getting gracefully off. I slip off after him. The house is empty and dark as we go in. He's been here before, but I think he's still impressed by the grandeur of it. He seemed especially taken with the library.
Since people go to his house so often, he has to keep his books scarce and hidden, not showing them off like we've done here. I promised him to lend him a couple of things.
"Do you want anything to eat?" I ask him and he shrugs. I take a couple of small packets of crisps and a small bottle of coke and he follows me upstairs to my room.
I don't want him to get the wrong idea from what I said before - I may have made it sound a bit more sexual than I meant it to. I drop my bag on the floor next to my desk and he leaves his next to it. "So, where were we?" I ask him, smiling.
He grins, coming closer to me. "I think about here." He whispers, pressing his lips to mine again. I pretend not to respond for a moment just to annoy him, and he pulls away. Before I get a chance to say anything his lips are on my neck, his hands running down my arms before settling on my back.
"Seth..." I murmur softly under my breath, but I don't want him to stop. I don't want this moment to break. Too many things have broken in my life. I want to keep this moment intact.
I finally pull away from him and plant my lips on his again, barely giving him a moment to catch his breath. Our arms pull us closer together, and I take a step forward, forcing him back onto my bed. He sits, then pulls me down with him, until I'm lying over him, still kissing.
We're working delicate acrobatics without even realising or wanting to. It's amazing, the way we can move in sync when we want to. It makes me feel warm inside, the thought that someone is so close to me that we can move this way together.
I roll off him, lying down next to him on the bed. As I said, I don't want to take anything too far. He leans down, kissing my forehead and I reach down, tugging on the end of his t-shirt. He pulls it off quickly and I run my hand over his chest in wonder. I swear only models have this and they're photoshopped anyway.
He doesn't move for a second before he reaches down too, undoing the buttons at the front of my shirt one by one. He pauses, my shirt half undone. "I'm afraid..." He sighs as if he's sorry about something. "That I'm going to tap this before Luke gets a chance."
We both burst out laughing then, and I shove his shoulder gently. "Has it gone viral yet?"
He grabs his phone off my table, sitting up against my headboard. I sit next to him, resting my head on his shoulder. "Hmm..." He scrolls through his feed for a second, then goes back to his profile. "Well, it's got 700 likes already."
I spot something at the bottom, a comment that says follow this account and then points at one. It's called @idtapthatzerd. "Seth." I whisper, and point.
We exchange looks and I smile before he clicks on it. It's awesome. It's a whole page full of videos, images, memes... Whoever made this is a genius, and I'm dumping Seth for them. Not only that, but there's links to other accounts, too.
This must have been the work of the year below us, who always enjoying teasing me but not participating in the bullying, and never liked Luke because if I wasn't there he beat up the little kids.
"This is amazing." I tell him. "I can't believe someone has actually done this."
"Me neither." Seth chuckles, sitting up. "Look at that." He taps his thumb against the scream and I almost choke on my spit as I see an edited picture of Luke with an I'd tap that tattoo on his chest. We both laugh for a few minutes and Seth leaves a few comments and follows some pages.
"Luke must be fuming." I comment. "You don't... Mind? About all this?"
"He deserves it." Seth says quickly. "This is nothing, uh..." He breaks off awkwardly. "He deserves it." He repeats, blushing.
I sigh, then nod slightly. "I know he does, but I just thought you might feel... I don't know, a little protective of your friend or something."
"Not at all." Seth smiles. "Anyway, people here are just poking fun at him. They're not actually... No one's actually hurting him. He's probably not even upset about this. Maybe angry, but definitely not hurt."
"I suppose." I smile slightly.
"Anyway, aren't you happy you're a high school sensation?" Seth asks me and I giggle. "But in a good way this time."
"I'm ecstatic." I reply, leaning up to kiss him.
A/N - There is a part of this that is cringey af but I couldn't edit it because my eyes almost started bleeding. Please don't hate me for it. It's meant to be cute (I think?).
