002, that's the team!

oo2. ⛅️🦢🏐 ↬ THAT'S THE TEAM !
— Sorry about our team !

       The group of high schoolers looked around, it was a sea of emotions mixed with confusion and happiness as Daichi announced Sonmi becoming an addition to the team. The girl herself stood in shock, she didn't exactly agree to join the team. The girl went to speak up until she was interrupted.

"You mean to tell me that," Tsukishima spoke up, "I have to see her every day." His eyes landed on the girl, his blood beginning to boil, he hated the fact that his insults weren't affecting her.

Sonmi crossed her arms over her chest, "Glad the feeling's mutual." She smiled at the boy, he glared back at her, she had no idea as to why he continuously was attacking the girl, she hadn't done a thing wrong for the boy to despise her. She had never been so confused as to why someone could hold so much animosity towards someone he had just met.

"Tsuki, how hard is it for you to not be a prick?"

Sonmi turned her head, a smile appearing on her face as she realized Kami spoke up, "You do realize she's done nothing to you. She just wants to become better at volleyball, not have an insult battle with you."

"You guys are all being idiots!" Suga suddenly walked in-between the two, he looked up at Tsukishima, "She's got a point, but," He then turned to Kami, "He's just like that with everyone he first meets. So everyone just get over yourselves and just stop fighting."

Daichi nervously laughed as he approached the trio, "Looks like this is a great start to your introduction." He smiled at Sonmi, but something was different about his smile compared to the rest of the team, his smile felt warm and comforting like he had cared for the girl. Daichi already had made Sonmi feel more welcomed to this team than any team she had joined before, she now knew he was a good captain and could definitely see what Michimiya had seen in him.

"Don't let Tsukishima get down on you," A voice from behind her spoke, Sonmi turned her head to see Hinata facing her, "He was rude to pretty much everyone on the team when he first arrived except Yamaguchi."

Sugawara laughed as he approached Sonmi, "He's still pretty mean to Yamaguchi too, and they've been friends since they were little, don't be fooled." Sonmi smiled at the silver-haired boy, he also seemed extremely friendly. It had come off extremely odd that the whole team had been so welcoming to Sonmis' unexpected acceptance to the team except for Tsuki, she could not quite wrap her head around it.

"So you said you're a middle blocker?" Ashai interjected, his hand now scratching the back of his head, he laughed nervously and smiled as he asked, "Aren't you a bit short for that position?" He opened his eyes to see an angered expression on Sonmis face, she lifted her eyebrow and crossed her arms as she looked up at him, "No! You see...I didn't mean that as like an insult!" He could feel himself start to panic, he had not intended to insult the girl, "I just mean like, you only play as a blocker? Not a wing spiker? I honestly would've thought you were the libero you have the perfect build for it!"

Before Sonmi could even utter a word, she was interrupted by another voice, "See, Asahi has a point." Tsuki smirked as he moved over to the group, staring at Sonmi before he looked over at Daichi, Suga, Hinata, and Asahi, "She's way too short to play the position. This is exactly why the girls' team is no good. They have someone who is 5'2 playing as a blocker, that's like us sending Noya out to be a blocker!"

"HEY!" Noya yelled in anger as Tanaka and Kami both laughed at the spiky-haired boy.

Sonmi couldn't even comprehend her anger at this moment, she looked around at the faces of the boys, Hinata looked just as mad as she did, Suga and Daichi just looked disappointed, and Asahi still looked just as mortified as before. Sonmi then found herself looking back at Tsuki, the smug look on his face made the girl want to scream in anger. She had never met someone so infuriating in her life, and she had only met the boy less than an hour ago. The black-haired girl had so many thoughts running through her head, but all she could manage to say was, "I'm actually 5'3 for your information."

Tsukishima quirked an eyebrow, "Wow, because that makes such a difference. You shouldn't be a middle blocker, try some other position I'm sure you could be a decent libero or maybe even pinch server if you tried hard enough."

"And what exactly are you good at Tsuki?" Kageyama finally butted in, the boy looked at Tsuki with rage-filled eyes. Seemed the two had some tensions, "Last I checked, Hinata and I just beat you and Tadashi in the match we had a while ago. So you're no better than Sonmi as being a middle blocker."

Hinata jumped once again, pulling Kageyama back from trying to walk closer to Tsuki, he looked over at Kami and Tanaka, "Guys, a little backup here?" Kami and Tanaka hustled over to the pair helping to hold back Kageyama.

"Oh sorry, dear king," Tsukishima said with a fake tone of sympathy, "I'm so sorry to have hurt dear Sonmis feelings," He paused again, walking closer to the boy calmly, "But last time I checked, I do not care."

Kagayama started to get more aggressive, "Let me at him!"

Daichi locked eyes with Sonmi, "Sorry about our team," He apologized as he scratched the back of his head, "That's the team! We are still finding our balance among the first years."

~~~
After some time, the boys decided to stop their bickering and make their way back into the gym. Sonmi admired the room, the sunlight gleaming through the window, the hardwood floors, and the nice put-together net. It sure had been no girls' team gym, but she seemed to like this one a whole lot better than the other one. The boys began to take out their equipment for a moment, Sugawara and Daichi stood near the girl, giving her a rundown of their team.
"So can you guess who has what positions on the team?" Sugawara laughed, as soon as he said that, Nishinoya hit a ball over to Asahi, who then spiked the ball over the net.
Sonmi suddenly felt a huge wave of pressure as she realized everyone was staring at her, she wouldn't dare get their positions wrong, or else the boys' mind find that reason enough to not help her out, "Uh, well, I know you're the teams' setter." She mentioned to Suga, "and I think Nishinoya was mentioned to be the libero."
Sugawara smiled, and even Noya gave the girl a grin with a thumbs up, "I'm not the only setter on the team, I'm actually not even in the starting lineup for being a setter."
Sonmi looked at the lineup of boys, eyeing all their physiques, ruling out people in her mind, "Well, logically, I don't think Hinata is, I think he mentioned being a winged spiker and middle blocker, same with the blonde." Sonmi lowly snickered at her comment, seeing Kami and Noya stiffle back a laugh as well, she saw Tsuki roll his eyes as she continued to speak, "I doubt it would be Tanaka, he seems to have too much power to be wasted on a setter, same problem with Daichi and Asahi. So, I think it might be Tadashi or Kageyama."
"You think I'm a setter?" Tadashi asked in a clear surprised voice, his face lit up like a light blub at the comment, "I'm not but I cannot believe you think I have that much talent."
"I'm the teams' starting setter, which is an honor, especially since Suga is the third year here." Kageyama addressed, which shocked Sonmi, she never heard of a first-year being in the starting lineup over a third year. She noted this, Kageyama must be extremely talented.
"You got a few of us right, can you figure out the rest?" Daichi asked, he seemed so friendly towards Sonmi, no wonder her captain takes interest in her.
Sonmi had narrowed down the positions, "Okay well, setters are Suga and Kageyama, while Nishinoya is the libero. The middle blockers and winged spikers include Hinata, Tanaka, Daichi, Asahi, Tadashi, and Tsukishima? I can't tell who's a spiker versus the middle blockers but based on physique, I'd say Asahi, Daichi, and Tanaka are definitely the spikers."
"Wow," Tanaka let out a chuckle, "You hit it pretty spot on." The boy threw his arms around Asahi and Daichi, "We clearly are the strongest members."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes, "Don't get in over your head, she didn't even identify all positions correctly nor our ace."
"That's this guy right here!" Noya jumped, ruffling Asahis' hair, "Our big strong ace!" This caused Asahi to brush his hair back into place and have a look of embarrassment on his face.
Sonmi smiled at Asahis' flustered face, "I could've totally guessed that. You are the biggest and appear the strongest on the team. I mean, I did think you were the coach after all." After this comment, Asahi stared down at the girl, smiling warmly.
"Oh! I get that a lot, but I appreciate the comment nonetheless." He smiled back at the girl, they both looked at each other for a moment, though the moment felt like ages, they were quickly interrupted by a voice interjecting.
"Okay, find time to flirt later." Tsuki now had his arms crossed over his chest, "I thought we were practicing how good your blocks are Sonmi?"
Kami scoffed, "Tsuki," the girl whined, "When do you ever have anything interesting to say?" Kami turned to Sonmi, eyeing her up and down, "I'm Kami, most people think I'm the manager, but in reality, I just come here for fun when I don't have ballet. It's nice to finally have one more girl during practices."
Sonmi smiled, "Yeah, I guess it's nice to know there's another girl here." Sonmi had never been the most social, most of her friends were the students she had tutored or her teachers. So it made Sonmi feel comfortable that there would be another girl, she'd hopefully become close with.
"Yeah! Now lets' do a practice game!" Hinata cheered as he jumped, Sonmis eyes widened at his leap into the air, it was like he was floating before her eyes. When the boys' feet hit the gym floor, he noticed Sonmis look at him, "What's wrong Sonmi? You look like you've seen a ghost."
She chuckled and shook her head, "Nothing, Nothing, your jump just surprised me. I wish I could jump like that." The girl had no idea someone so small could jump that high, she figured Hinata was on the team as a backup middle blocker, assuming he could not jump that high.
The boy shot her a puzzled look, "Well, aren't you the same height as me, and position as me?"
Tsukishima let out a laugh, which caused everyone around him to shoot him a glare, "And here I thought I was the only one sitting here thinking that."
Yamaguchi stood next to the boy, he looked over at Sonmi, locking eyes with her, "Don't listen to him." He mouthed to her with a slight look of annoyance.
"No need to be rude Tsukshima, Hinata was just asking a question." Daichi mentioned, his look more annoyed than Yamaguchi's at this point, "Lets' get ready for the practice game." He clapped his hands together, his facial expression now happier, "Sonmi you get to pick your teammates to make you feel better! It's a six versus six, so pick five!"
Sonmi looked around at the team, realizing everyone was now staring her down. At this moment she felt so small and the weight of the world on her shoulders, "I-I get to pick? Are you sure?" She asked, normally the young girl was never nervous but at this moment she could feel her anxiety get the best of her.
Daichi smiled, "No pressure! We just want you to pick who you feel the most comfortable with on your team so you can play to the best of your ability! None of us will hold it against you if you don't pick us."
"Speak for yourself, I'll cry tears for days." Tanaka said with a fake pout, he approached the girl with the fake tears in his eyes before Kami smacked the back of the bald boy's head.
"Ignore him, he's an idiot," Kami said simply staring up at the girl, "Quit being a dumbass." She yelled at Tanaka.
Sonmi looked around at the team, she was trying to think logically about who and what positions she would need on her team. She would need a setter, making her look between Sugawara and Kageyama, both seemed to be nice to her, but she had no idea of their skills. Naturally, she felt more drawn to Sugawara due to the fact he was older, he might know more than Kageyama, "For my first pick, I think I'll go with Sugawara."
Sugawara smiled, "Thanks Sonmi." He said walking over towards the girl, "Glad to be a contender."
The small girl stood next to Suga, she now knew she was gonna need someone who was good at digging the ball but also a strong spiker or blocker, "I'll also take Nishinoya and Tanaka."
"Booyah!" Tanaka screamed, he started pumping his fist up and down before high-fiving Nishinoya, "Lets go, our team is totally gonna win!" He yelled as he made his way over to Sonmi and Suga.
Nishinoya beamed, his grin ear to ear, "Totally gonna win with Tanaka and me on your team Sonmi!"
Kami laughed at the two boys, "You're team seems to be chaotic as hell Sonmi, no offense but are you trying to lose?" She asked with a small laugh, this question struck a nerve with Sonmi.
"NO!" Sonmi said, now facing her team again, she hadn't realized she did pick the teams' most chaotic bunch, "They all have strengths, they may be chaotic but I swear I have logic behind my picks." She justified, she hated when people second-guessed her, she knew what she was doing and didn't need anyone questioning her.
"Last pick Sonmi." Daichi reminded her.
The girls' eyes drew between the team's tallest, she knew she would need someone to help her block the ball. Her eyes darted between Asahi, his friendly smile at the girl as they locked eyes, she quickly looked away once she realized he was looking back at her. Her eyes then went to Tsukishima, his facial expression the same as usual, an annoyed look with his eyebrows raised. The look on his face aggravated the girl, she stared at him as she crossed her arms, "Do you have a problem?"
"Not at all." He shot back at her, a smug smile appeared on his face, knowing he had now gotten into the girls' head.
"My last pick..." She started, her eyes still darting between the tall boys, logically she wanted to pick Tsukishima since he was the tallest, but she would rather die than play alongside him. She did not trust the boy at all and felt he might make her fail on purpose. On the other hand, the girl felt like she could trust Asashi, she was unsure why, but she felt more compelled to choose him, maybe it was because of the feeling she got in her stomach when she looked at him, or maybe it was because he was the ace of the team, reassuring her in the fact he would help her. The girl took one last big deep breath before choosing, "...is Asahi."
