014, can we talk?
o14. ⛅️🦢🏐 ↬ Can we talk !
— Talk about what ?
Long and Awkward was the only way to explain the walk to Sonmis' home, the pair had not spoken in a matter of a few days which only added to the oddness of them being together. It was a dark and cold night, so cold one could see their breath when breathing out. The sun had set about ten minutes into their walk, and a light breeze made its way through the streets. The streets were lowly lit with street lamps, making it hard for the pair to even look over at each other.
Sonmi was trying her best to act like she wasn't sick, often stifling back coughs and sneezes or just trying to not pass out. The girl was walking with her arms crossed, rubbing her forearms. The girl was never a fan of the cold, and certainly, not now, she was beyond freezing and was barely wearing a jacket. Sonmi was also trying not to die of embarrassment as she quickly realized how bad she looked, green sweats with a blue tank top, no makeup, her hair was not done, and to top it off she was not wearing a bra. The girl was struggling to hide her sickness, seeing as she lied to Tsukishima when he asked if she was, "Why did he even care?" She asked herself repeatedly in her head, she looked out of the corner of her eye up at the blonde boy.
Tsukishima obviously could tell Sonmi was staring at him, which only caused him to look down at her. This made the two quickly both look back in front of them, continuing the awkward walk. The walk was fairly short, but it felt like hours to Sonmi.
Tsukishima looked down at Sonmi once again, he took note of her hands rubbing her arm, "If you're cold you can have my jacket."
Sonmi looked over at the boy as if he was crazy, for starters it was deathly cold outside, like cold enough to freeze an ear or two off. Then again, it was Kei Tsukishima we were talking about, he probably wasn't being serious, "Haha," She fakely laughed, "Very funny."
"I'm being serious." He stated, not flinching to look at the girl, "I kinda like the cold."
Sonmi again was left in shock. This was something Tsukishima never ceased to do to the girl, all he did was constantly surprise her, whether it was by being mean or showing a more genuine and kind side. But this didn't stop her stubborn nature, "Well, I don't like the cold."
"Really Couldn't tell." He spoke.
How could two people be so vastly different, but yet so similar?
Sonmi scoffed, continuing to walk completely ignoring Tsukishimas comment. The girl wasn't even that cold, nor did she want to wear his coat out of everyone in the world. Her arms did begin feeling a tad numb from the cold breeze that graced them, but she still continued to ignore his offer.
Tsukishima rolled his eyes, "Stubborn as ever I see. Nothing new."
Sonmi whipped her head towards him, "You know, you can leave." She emphasized each word, "I never asked for you to walk with me remember, YOU offered." She now crossed her arms, looking forward in the distance.
"I know." Tsukishima spoke, "I wanted to."
"Why?"
He shrugged, looking down at the girl with a glim look. He really had no idea why he offered to walk her home, he had no idea where she lived nor how far it was from his own home. He was unsure why he was even still there, in that moment he thought about leaving the girl, but for some unexplainable reason, couldn't bring himself to.
The walk continued to be quiet, with neither party speaking to the other. Other than a simple, 'turn this way' or 'cross here', the pair just walked in complete silence. Though it was quiet, both of their minds couldn't help but have millions of thoughts run through their heads. The pair stood fair from each other when the walk began but now they walked much closer, mere hairs separating the distance between the two. No one could ever explain how the two would run away from each other but always find their paths crossing each other again, it was like something was forcing them to be together but no one could ever explain it.
"Here." Sonmi spoke quietly, as her footsteps stopped in front of a small house, the house was dull from the outside. White walls, small square windows, and a wide brown wooden door, not much to work off of.
Tsukishima looked the house up and down, trying his best to think of something to say. His mind was blank, he was trying to make out a sentence in his mind, "You have a nice home." A laugh then filled the air, Sonmis' laugh to be more specific. This made Tsukishimas' ears perk up and look at the girl to his side, her laugh sounded like music to his ears. A smile appeared on his face as a chuckle escaped his mouth, "What's so funny?"
"My house is kinda small, but I appreciate the effort for the compliment." Sonmi realized, her guard was down, she wasn't putting up a front around the boy for the first time. She began to make her way toward her door, she didn't hear footsteps behind her which caused her to look behind her and see Tsukishima standing behind her. He stood there will a small smile on his face, and his blonde hair was being blown to the side by the wind. Sonmi could stare at him for an entire hour and talk about everything he was wearing, his big black sony headphones, his hands in his black Karasuno volleyball jacket and long slack pants, and the thick red scarf he was wearing around his neck. He stood below her stares, beginning to turn away from the girls' house. For a moment, Sonmi felt her stomach drop, she didn't wanna see him leave, "Do you want to come in?"
His head turned to the girl faster than lightning, was he hearing this right? Sonmi was inviting him into her house, this was out of the usual for the both of them, the friendliness at least. He turned to face the girl, "Oh, uh, sure."
Sonmi grinned at him, receiving a small smile back from him. The boy walked up the stairs to her home, watching her turn her singular key into the wooden door. The two walked in, getting hit with a scent of sage as they walked through the front door. The tall boy took a look around the small house, really just looking to see if anyone else was home. He stood by the door as Sonmi continued into her home, she walked towards a small table that had a sticky note on it.
"Oh, my brother left." She spoke, grabbing the sticky note off the table and bringing it closer to her face. Sonmi looked over at Tsukishima, who had a look of confusion on his face, "Oh, well, I was supposed to get these noodles for our dinner, but I apparently took too long. So he went to get food with some of his college friends I guess." The girl went back to the note, "I'm on my own for dinner."
Tsukishima saw the girl in full light, where he was able to see how truly pale she was. She looked slim and pale, extremely sick in his eyes. He was unsure how to respond to the girl, seeing as she was in her own little world, "I didn't know you had a brother."
"Shuichi, he's my older brother," Sonmi spoke, placing the paper down on the table. She flicked her head over towards Tsukishima again, her hair flipping over her shoulder as she did so, "We are six years apart so I don't really talk about him much because we are so apart in age."
Tsukishima nodded, and he continued to stand by the door awkwardly. He swayed back and forth on the heels of his feet. He didn't wanna just intrude into the girls' house, he was unsure how to act. This had been the first time he had been in a girls' home, let alone a girl he 'supposedly hates' home.
Luckily, Sonmi took notice of his stance and spoke, "You can come in, I won't bite. Promise!" She joked, putting her hand over her heart, "Unless you start insulting me in my own house, then we will have problems."
Tsukishima could feel his shoulders untense as the words left her mouth, its not that he felt tense around her. It was almost like he was in enemy territory and felt like he was somewhere where he shouldn't be. He began to take his shoes off and begin to make his way into the small house, he wanted to talk to the girl but he couldn't think of anything. Normally, he wasn't a person to hang out with others outside of school, besides maybe Yamaguchi but even then, he didn't hang out with him nearly enough to ever come to his house past nine at night. The boy watched Sonmi look into her pantry and fridge, he could tell she was looking for something to eat, "Are you hungry?"
The girl looked away from her cupboard, "Yeah kinda." Her eyes locked with his, causing her to look away from him. Her eyes locked in the pantry, she could not hold eye contact with him, not here and certainly not now, "I've been sick so Shui- My brother, has been making me food."
"Is that why you haven't been at school?"
"Yeah. I also just don't wanna see anyone."
"Anyone, really?"
Sonmi froze, she could tell what she was talking about. Her eyes were still stuck in her cupboard, her cheeks began to heat up. She wasn't really lying but, she wasn't telling the full truth either, "Well, I really just didn't wanna see my team," She started, rubbing her arm, "And your team."
"Really?" Tsukishima knew she had been trying her best to avoid him, ever since the day of the preliminaries. He comforted her, he hugged her tightly as he tried to comfort her, he remembered that day like it was yesterday.
Sonmi couldn't find a way around question, she knew what he wanted to hear, "I didn't wanna see you either." She finally admitted.
Tsukishima behind the girl, almost leaning against the wall as he faced her back, "Why?" Tsukishima could tell she was getting slightly flustered, which made him laugh. He had been trying his best to not be his normal dickhead-type self, but he couldn't help himself.
Sonmi could feel his presence behind her, she tried her best to gather up the courage to turn and face him. As she turned to face him she finally said, "Because you've been acting weird." The girl looked up as her eyes met his. His golden brown eyes meeting her shimmering green eyes, Sonmi was certain her face was a bright red after her confession. She could feel tension between the two as they glared at each other.
"I've been weird? You're the one who's been weird." He said with a smirk on his face.
Sonmis' eyes widened, she started to get agitated with his behavior again "No way. You have been!" The girl pushed the boy away from her, breaking the tension between the pair.
"You're the one who's been avoiding me, that's a little weird." Tsukishima added, he could see her get frustrated and he could tell it was getting to her. He didn't intend to make her upset but it was his natural personality that did.
Sonmi felt like her head was filling with steam, it was like the pair were at square one. It was like the first day they met each other, countless insults and yelling at each other for no other reason then they hated each other. Just when she thought she could feel comfortable around him, it was all lost in that moment, "You're the one who's been comforting me and acting like you care about me! Look at yourself, you're making fun of me again. I don't understand you! What do you want from me? Do you hate me?" She could feel herself begin to tear up.
It was funny, the way Sonmi always asked if he hated her. It was funny but not in a bad way, not like a way that he would make fun of someone and laugh at them. No--It was funny because it was quite literally the opposite, it was funny becaue he wished that was the case. Tsukishima wanted to be able to answer the question truthfully and be able to say he did without lying, but he couldn't. He was in a pause for words, he was unsure how to respond to her, "I-I don't hate you." He could feel his smirk fade away and his heart beating through his chest, "I've never hated you."
"Really? Because I couldn't tell. Since the day you met me, you've done nothing but make me feel awful about everything I do." Sonmi could feel the tears rush down her cheeks, she couldn't believe she was crying in front of him again, let alone in her own home, "I know I say this a lot but you confuse me. It's like everytime I talk to you I have to play your mind games, I never know where your head is at."
Tsukishima could see the teary eyes from the girls, he could feel his frown forming on his face, "Look, I didn't mean to upset you." He watched the pools of green as they flushed out tear after tear, watching her face ask why he was acting this way, "I-I don't mean to confuse you either. I'm just an idiot, i'm sorry."
"An idiot? That's it? You're the absoulte worst." Sonmi spoke, she balled her fist by her sides, "You never mean to upset me? Well I couldn't tell! It's like everytime I see you, you manage to drive me even more crazy. What do you want from me?" She could hear her voice choke up as her tears began to build up in her tearducts again, "What do you want from me?"
The boy stared at her as he watched her hands rush to her eyes, he made her cry. Kei Tsukishima made Jeon Sonmi cry, the one person he didn't actually want to make cry, cry. The boy rushed his hand to her face, "Sonmi, i'm sorry."
Sonmi quickly slapped his hand away from her, "Stay away from me. Seriously." She stated sternly, her hand still was near her eyes trying her best to keep her tears in her eyes. Sonmi looked up at Tsukishima, he had his mouth agap and stared at her with guilt in his eyes, she couldn't help but feel bad. The girl couldn't think of anything to do or say in the moment, she just wanted to crawl up into a ball and not talk to anyone ever again. She just wanted to be alone, alone without any worries of school, vollyeball club, or Kei Tsukishima. Sonmi, in a fit of anger, stormed off to her room. The girl aimed for her door, pushing the door open and slamming it shut, not caring about who followed behind.
Tsukishima followed the girl as she rushed away from him, he could hear his footsteps trailing behind hers as he tried to catch up with her. He watched her stomp her feet onto the wooden floors, he could tell he hit a different nerve this time. Right as she entered into her room, she turned for a moment and faced Tsukishima, the hallway light shining onto her face. Her face was covered with tears trailing down her cheeks, a look on her face that read heartbroken, right before he was faced with a bright white wooden door slammed in his face. His immediate reaction was so slam his hand on the door, which he soon realized was a bad idea.
Following her storming into the room, Sonmi basically threw herself into her bed. Her bed was covered with used tissues and half-drank water bottles, which certainly did not help her already horrible mood. The girl heard the sudden slap on the door, which only caused more tears to come out of her eyes before she began to quietly sob into her pillow. She had never met someone so self-centered and selfish then him, she had also never met someone who made her feel so awful about herself. Everytime the boy had told her he didn't mean to upset her, she wish she could believe him, she wanted to believe he changed. But then, he'd slip up, and they'd be right back at square one again, but she still believed him everytime, thinking he could be sincere and geniue with her.
Tsukishima rubbed his neck, the sounds of Sonmis quite sobs made their way through the door, which caused Tsukishima to sigh in frustration. The boy stared at the door, listening to the sobs from the girl, he took his glasses off to rub his eyes. He felt awful, worse then he had ever felt in his entire life then he did right now. Him breaking his arm in grade school, him running laps for volleyball until he couldn't feel his ribs; nothing could equate to the pain he felt right now. Sonmis' question kept repeating in his mind, her teary face asking, "What do you want from me?" What did he really want from her? Why was he trying to do nice things for her? Why was he worried about her? Why was he even being nice to her in the first place? Though, Sonmi didn't understand it, neither did Tsukishima. Putting what he felt into words, was never his strong suit, which is why he usually resorted to being more cold and blunt with people, he found it much easier than trying to express how he truly feels about sitautions. The boy turned his back towards the door as he slid down, sitting right in front of her door. Her words rang though his head on repeat, like a broken record that keeps repeating one part of the song, her words stuck with him.
On the other side of the door, Sonmi found herself thinking the exact same thing, "What do you want from me?" The sound of him sliding down the door echoed her room, the sound was unpleasant and only made the girl even more upset. Why wouldn't he leave? Was he staying to torment her again or pretend to care about her? Why was he there? What did he want from her?
Tsukishima sat there in his own thoughts, trying to think of something to do, "Sonmi," He spoke as he knocked on her door. The knock then rang in Sonmis mind, she pulled her blanket over her head and stared at the door before she heard another knock, "Sonmi, can we talk?"
Sonmi exhaled while sitting up in her bed, now facing her door. She wiped the tears away from her face, "Talk about what?"
"I don't know. I wanted to just talk to you."
"Well we are talking right now, aren't we?"
Tsukishima sighed, he knew she was stubborn. He wanted to say somethign snarky in the moment, but instead inhaled and spoke, "Well, I kinda meant face to face. I want to apologize, geniunely. Then I can leave you alone if you'd like." Standing up from the floor, he spoke into the door, "Or you can just tell me to leave. I won't bother you."
Sonmi looked around her room, thinking about if she should believe him. Her body rised out of bed, her hand going to place and twist the doorknob open. She paused, why was she giving him the benefit of the doubt? He's an asshole and doesn't deserve it. Her hand went to the doorknob again, her heart felt like she was dying. The door opened, she was expecting the bright light to hit her face, but instead she was graced with Tsukishima. His face had a glum look up until he noticed the door opened, "You have five minutes." She moved out of the way, allowing him into her room.
Tsukishima looked around the room as he walked in, his eyes wandered around her room as he took a seat on her bed. Before he could even take a moment to breathe, Sonmi was standing over him. Her once sad mood, seemed to have taken a complete 180, seeing as she looked extremely angry with the boy, "So,"
"So?"
"Okay, well, I wanted to start by saying, I don't do this often." He started, staring down at his hands in his lap before looking up at Sonmi, who now had her arms crossed and eyebrow raised, "I wanted to say, I'm sorry for hurting you. It was never my intention to make you feel upset or bad about yourself. I just can be an asshole sometimes, and I didn't know it would affect you that heavily."
Sonmi scoffed, a smile appearing on her face, she was holding back a laugh.
"What's so funny?" Tsukishima asked, his eyebrow raised as well now, "I'm trying to apolgize."
"I know you are. I'm just not buying the whole, you didn't think it would affect me part." Sonmi said, using airquotes to quote the boys words.
Tsukishima stood up, "You didn't even let me finish."
"Then finish."
"I'm trying but you won't even listen!" The boy started to shout almost now.
"Why should I? It's all the same things i've heard a million times! The whole, 'Im sorry Sonmi, i didn't mean to make you upset, it wasn't my intentions. I'm just a dick!'"
Tsukishima made his way to get closer to the girl, "Look, weather you believe my apology is not my problem. At least I'm trying to apologize to you and not just leave you to cry."
"But why? I just don't get it, I just wanna know why now? Why?" Sonmi started, her eyes meeting his, the dark lit room making it almost impossible for them to see anything on the floor, "You are an asshole to everyone and I don't you seeing this for anyone else so why are you doing this for me? Why are you trying to be nice and apologize?"
Tsukishima could feel his veins popping and his blood run thick through his veins, the girl was getting to him. Here he was trying to do something nice for her, and she was questioning his motives, "Why can't I just wanna do something nice for you? Or be a good person and apologize for making you feel bad?"
"Because you're Kei Tsukishima!"
"And you're Jeon Sonmi!"
And there it was, a moment of silence. Just the two of them, in the dim lit room, staring at each other. No words being exchanged, only each pair of eyes peering into the others. Neither of them couldn't think of anything to say, but instead just could feel themseleves grow less angry. Their bodies felt attarcted to each others like magents, their faces mere inches away. Tsukishima glanaced down at Sonmis' lips, her small rosy lips a few inches from his. The pairs eye contact onyl lasted a few more seconds before their lips met. Their kiss sent shivers down both of their spines, the innocent lasted shortly before Tsukishima grabbed Sonmis' waist and Sonmis' hand reached up into Tsukishimas' hair and rubbed his scalp.
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening startled the pair. The kiss broke, Tsukishima felt empty as the kiss ended abruptly. Sonmis' eyes widened as she knew exactly what was happening.
"Sonmi! I'm home!" The voice of Jeon Shuichi filled the house, scaring the high schoolers shitless.
"You have to leave. Like, right now." Sonmi whispered, pushing Tsukishima towards the door.
"Are you crazy? He's right by the door." Tsukishima whispered back.
Sonmi realized he was right, she looked around for another way to get him out of her room. Her eyes landed on the window in her room, it was wide open, "There." She pointed.
"The window? Are you serious?"
"Do you wanna live to see daylight?" Sonmi asked, holding her hand out for the boy to grab.
Tsukishima sighed, grabbing her hand as she pulled him towards the window. She moved her desk chair in front of the window so Tsukishima could get into the window.
"Sonmi? Are you here?" His voice sounded even closer now.
This caused Sonmi to rush towards the door, slamming the door shut, "I'm changing don't come in!" She yelled through the door, her back facing the door as she watched Tsukishima struggle to get out of the window, "Go!" She mouthed.
Tsukishima rolled his eyes, as he made his way out of the window. He waved to her before he rushed off, this wasn't long before he realized he left his shoes there.
Sonmi then opened the door, smiling, "Hi Shui! How was hanging with your friends?" Hugging him.
"Oh, It was good-"
"Great! I'm absouletly tired. I'm gonna go to sleep! Goodnight!" She said before slamming her door again. The girl climbed into her bed, her heart had felt like she had just finshed a marathon for many reasons. Her mind was running, it couldn't stop thinking. So much had happen in just the past ten minutes she couldn't even mentally process it, "Fucking Kei Tsukishima." She whispered before hitting her head with her pillow.
