— I'm sure it wasn't important!
"OW! Tanaka watch where you're setting the chairs damn it!"
For the last hour, the Karasuno volleyball team had been attempting to set up their gym for the practice match they would be having soon. Though it was the girls' job to set up the chairs, the boys decided to be charitable and help the girls set up some of them, even though the girls would argue it was better when they didn't help at all.
Kami had already been frustrated for unknown reasons since she arrived at the practice match, let alone, Tanaka had now been irritating her to a new level by trying to help set up the chairs. Instead of trying to calm down, he kept placing the legs of the chair right onto Kami's feet, which had probably ached from her ballet practice.
Sonmi had been quietly giggling at the pair, though she could feel the pain of getting annoyed by someone she liked, and she could definitely see why Kami was getting frustrated. Sonmi admittedly was trying not to pay attention to their newest member of the team, Yachi. The ravened hair girl had known Yachi for some time now, the two were in the same class and talked from time to time. But now Sonmi felt like she had another ally in the sea of boys on the team, it was a nice feeling to have someone else by her side. She looked over to her right, watching as Yachi brought another chair her way, "You're hair is so cute in that ponytail Yachi." The girl smiled.
Yachi smiled, beaming back at Sonmi, "Thank you!"
Sonmi nodded her head, "Of course!" The girl spun around and went to get another chair, realizing Asahi was standing right in front of the rack of chairs. Sonmi hadn't really been talking to Asahi as much as she used to, not because of anything, she just realized he wasn't going out of his way to talk to her, and she was doing the same. As she walked up to him, suddenly she heard Tsukishima yell something through the gym.
"We just learned that!" He seemed to be yelling at Hinata and Kageyama, clearly, his teachings were not getting through to the pair, which irritated him only further.
Sonmi couldn't help but laugh at Tsukishimas' frustration, she felt this was almost karma for him treating awful for weeks on end earlier this year. She then turned her head back towards Asahi, who was now talking to Daichi about something. She decided to turn right back around and ignore her desire to talk to him, she instead went back over to Kami, who looked like she was ready to blow her lid at any moment. Sonmi went to say something only to hear Kami speak instead.
"You were gonna go talk to Asahi huh?" Kami asked, not even popping her head up from her task.
Sonmi could feel her mouth drop open a bit, "What? No, I was just going to get another chair." She lied through her teeth.
"Then why didn't you?"
Sonmi rolled her eyes, "I don't have to explain myself to you." She said, crossing her arms over her chest.
She watched as Kami smirked to herself, "I'm just teasing you, Som." Lightly punching her arm, laughing at the short girl.
The two smiled at each other before they realized Yachi was staring in front of them with a look of horror on her face, which caused the two to get closer to her. The pair realized that Yachi was staring at the boys putting their shirts on, some of them being shirtless which drew attention towards them.
Sonmi could feel herself staring at Asahi, whether it was intentional or not, she was doing it, and she could feel her cheeks turning red. This caused her to look away from his direction, which only caused her to look over to where Tsukishima was, putting his shirt on as well. The girl felt like she couldn't win, she was now blushing almost twice as hard as she was before, which only became worse when Tsukishima caught her staring at him. The girl spun completely around to look at Kami, "Dude, what the hell." Which got a chuckle out of Kami.
"Calm down, they're just boys." Kiyoko laughed.
"Yeah Som, calm down they're just boys." Kami teased her as she smirked at her friend.
"Boys with no manners," Sonmi mumbled to herself, she could feel herself zoning out, realizing how bad she looked at the moment, she was trying not to get all flustered anymore around boys, but she couldn't help but feel like she was making a fool of herself.
"You changing up your look Asahi?" Was the phrase that snapped Sonmi out of her haze, she looked up to see Nishinoya, Asahi, and Tanaka all having a conversation, where Tanaka had still decided to not put his shirt on.
"Well yeah, sorta," Asahi started, and he went on to explain a story about how Kiyoko told him he'd go bald with a man bun. This was sorta a shame, Sonmi always thought he looked nice with his hair pulled back, but the headband was a nice look on him, "So I did this." He explained.
"Sure it gets you in with the ladies," Nishinoya said nudging Asahi, then giving Sonmi a smile from across the gym.
Sonmi could feel herself fall back into despair with this simple look, shooting her head down to look at the floor, and placing her face in the palm of her hand.
Tsukishima was trying his best to not show his jealousy in this moment, though he was not one to admit he had feelings, let alone he was jealous of anything, he was jealous. Tsukishima knew there was something between both Sonmi and him, but also Sonmi and Asahi had done nothing but infuriate him. He didn't have the right to be possessive of Sonmi, though she hadn't even done anything, he could feel a weird tension between the two that bothered him. Tsukishima tried to tell himself there was nothing to be bothered about, but how could he not be bothered when Asahi and him were so different? He found himself questioning why Sonmi took an interest in him and Asahi, especially with all their differences, which the more he thought about it, it just made him even more angry. The boy watched as Sonmi brought her head back up, now staring directly in the direction of Asahi, though he didn't know if she was staring at him, he was still in that direction so he assumed it was him.
"Tanaka can't seem to put his shirt on fast enough," Kami joked, nudging Sonmi, who she noticed was now looking towards Asahi, "And seems like your favorite person always puts theirs on too fast." Kami wouldn't dare speak it aloud, but she thought Asahi was the better fit for Sonmi, even though she knew how Sonmi and Tsukishima had felt about each other. This didn't matter to her though, seeing how Tsukishima had treated her over the first few months of them knowing each other, she couldn't erase from her memory, making her an Asahi advocate for Sonmi.
Sonmi let out a deep sigh, finally having control of herself, "I don't know what you're talking about." She insisted.
"Okay, yeah, sure Sonmi," Kami said sarcastically.
The game quickly started, and the boys enthusiastically started to get ready. The girls then all took their seats on the courtside, Kiyoko and Yachi sitting on their respective sides of the scoreboards, while Sonmi and Kami both sat next to Yachi on her side, excited to watch the game. The game started with a few swift moves from the Karsauno boys, which didn't surprise anyone except Yachi, she watched as Asahi slammed the ball down onto the other side of the court.
"He's got great reflexes," Yachi spoke in amazement.
"Yeah, that's why he's the ace!" Sonmi spoke with a smile, "He's the best player on the team I think."
"Sonmi is only saying that because she's like in love with him." Kami spat a little too loudly.
Sonmis' eyes widened, as well as Yachis' due to Kamis' comment, "No I'm not!" She denied it quickly.
"Okay, Sonmi." Kami teased again.
Sonmi sulked into her chair, realizing this would be the last time she'd open her mouth for the duration of the game. The girl looked to the other side of the court where she saw Tsukishima staring directly at her, with an unusual look on his face. This caused her to panic, thinking he had maybe heard what Kami said and was getting mad at her. The two hadn't really discussed Asahi unless it was Tsukishima expressing his dislike for him, which was only a thing because he thought Asahi liked Sonmi. Sonmi looked away from Tsukishima, trying her best to not try to think about it, even though she knew, he was definitely going to say something about it. But, unknown to Sonmi, Tsukishima hadn't heard their conversation, but he was thinking about Asahi and Sonmi.

The game quickly came to an end after just two sets, both won by the Karasuno boys. This meant it was time for the team to begin their clean-up ritual so they could all make their way home.
Sonmi was putting the folded chairs away, but she could feel Tsukishima staring at her, it was like he was burning a hole into the back of her head, she knew he was going to say something to her today, which only made her even more nervous to finish cleaning up.
Tsukishima had admittingly been staring at Sonmi quite a bit, catching her looking back a few times, which made him happy, seeing she was looking at him and not Asahi. He wanted to go up to her and talk to her, but he felt nervous, which was still a new feeling to him, feeling nervous to talk to someone, let alone someone who was smaller than him.
Kami would like to say she's a great observer and could tell there was some awkward tension that needed to be broken between the pair, she went over to put a chair away where Sonmi had been and sighed as she said, "Are you gonna avoid him all night?"
Sonmi looked at her with a shocked expression, "What?"
"Are you gonna avoid Tsuki all night?" She reiterated.
Sonmi was going to pretend like she didn't know what she was talking about, but she didn't feel like trying to hide it anymore, "No, I just get worried to talk to him sometimes."
Kami could feel herself mentally sigh, she couldn't exactly understand why Sonmi would even continue to give him the time of day when he made her feel like this, but she trying to be a nonjudgemental friend and support her decision, "Don't be worried, he likes you, you shouldn't be worried." Even if Kami was more on team Asahi, she wanted Sonmi to be happy, and she couldn't help but love good enemies to lovers, "Go," She started to push Sonmi in his direction.
Sonmi quickly stopped her, "I'll go, just, don't make it s obvious," She said, watching Kami nod and give her a grin. Sonmi now spun around and began to walk towards Tsukishima, who for once was not looking at her. He was trying to put something away in the storage closet, and Sonmi came up from behind him and spoke, "Hey Tsukishima," She quickly regretted calling him that, it felt too formal, too weird, though she still wasn't used to calling him Tsuki.
Tsukishima turned to face the familiar voice, "Hey Sonmi," He paused for a second to give her a good look, "Can I help you?" Tsukishima realized how rude that could've been taken but decided to not come across as nervous so he didn't retract his question.
"Oh," To Tsukishimas' dismay, Sonmi did take his comment a bit personally, and could feel herself get a little timid, "Uh, I was just coming to say a good job today, you did really well." She smiled.
"Thanks," He spoke, giving her a small smile. He knew he had quite a few things to say, but he wasn't sure if this was the place, nor the time to talk about it. He thought about maybe asking her to talk about it at a later time, but could feel that nervousness coming back into his stomach, "I appreciate it Sonmi." He said, on an act of impulse he started to ask, "Hey do you..."
"Tsuki!" Suddenly Yamaguchi was on the blonde boy's shoulder, which irritated Tsukishima and made Sonmi mentally exhale, "Did you see my serve today? It was so much better than before!"
"It was great," Tsukishima said blankly.
Suddenly all the trio could hear was the conversation between Yachi and Hinata, who were both speaking in only sound effects while trying to talk about the game.
"She can't use words either, she's gonna fit right in with him." Tsukishima joked.
Sonmi nudged the boy, "Don't be so mean," She started, causing Tsukishima to give her a look of confusion, "I think it's their way of flirting." She joked back. This made Tsukishima let out a chuckle, which only made Sonmi even more surprised than before. The small action made her feel significantly less nervous than she was before, she felt like he wasn't mad at her anymore, "Hey Tsuki," She started, gaining his attention she quickly asked, "You were gonna ask me something?"
Tsukishima could feel himself wanting to answer her truthfully, but he decided he didn't wanna ruin the perfect smile she had on her face, he wanted to stay in this wholesome moment so he decided to just leave it as it is, "I don't remember." He lied, "I'm sure it wasn't important." But boy, was it important, some important it would come back to bite him in the ass for never talking to her about it.
