Third Date 1/2
You frowned at the dresses lined up neatly in your closet and sigh. These weren't good enough for Koala's tastes. She had picked out a lovely (F/C) cocktail dress for you earlier. You liked the color and all, but what would Sabo think?
"So you guys are totally together right now, right?" The brunette roommate of yours piped up, her head poking in the closet as you stood there holding up the dress she had gotten you.
"Well, yeah, he asked me yesterday." You mumble shyly. Ever since Koala saw you in that cafe she wouldn't shut up about it. It only got worse when you told her what happened between you and the blonde afterwards.
You smile and touch your lips. Koala sees this and grins mischievously, "You're totally thinking about him right now~!"
"W-What?!" You accidentally said it louder than you had meant to. You glare as Koala giggles at how your cheeks were slowly turning pink and the fact that she was right about you thinking about him.
"I never had a boyfriend before. What do girlfriends do anyway?" You thought out loud and purse your lips in thought. It was already around noon, you would have woken up earlier if you had slept early last night, the images of those crazy zombies flashed through your mind every time you spot a dark corner in the room. It probably scarred you for life.
The heels you picked out were sitting on your bed, waiting to be worn. Wondering what the Princess Ball is suppose to be like, you sit on the bed facing your roommate and ask. "Hey, Koa, why is it called the Princess Ball?"
Koala grabs her make-up kit and browses through the many shades of pink, orange, and red lipsticks she had stocked up. "Well actually the party is also called the Cinderella Ball. It's a way for students to bond with each other and get to know more about their partners." She explains, not looking at you.
"That sounds kinda nice actually." You immediately thought about you and Sabo sitting down in a table, talking and getting to know more about each other, it was a perfect way to connect with your new-*cough*-boyfriend-*cough*.
After hearing your cheerful tone, Koala's eyes widen and she scratches her cheek. "Umm, actually (Name) the students don't get to pick their partners."
You pause, fantasy breaking into pieces like a broken mirror, and blink confusedly. "The reason why it's called the Cinderella ball is because the guys get their partners randomly by finding the owner of the slipper."
"Finding the what of the what??" You ask in puzzlement.
Koala picks up one of her heels and displays it on the floor in front of you. She positions her hands on either side of the shoe like she was caging it, "Okay, imagine you place your slipper in a box with a blanket over it. A random guy will reach in the box and pull out a slipper-" Koala picks up the shoe by the strap and wears it. "-The mission for the guy or prince is to find the girl who owns the slipper. Whoever he picks will be his Cinderella."
The chances of Sabo picking your slipper would be 1% and there is a possibility that he picks another girl to be his partner, you throw your heels to the shoe box and pouted. "Sorry, I thought Vivi told you about it already." She says awkwardly, unsure of how to handle your girly frustration.
You took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Remembering Koala saying earlier that the purpose of this partnership was to get to know other students better, you try to think positively. "There's no reason for me to be jealous, right? I mean, Sabo likes me and only me...right?" You force a smile but deep down you were still doubtful. What if Sabo likes his partner more than you? What if he changed his mind about you?
Shaking your head to shoo away the thoughts, you stand up and decided that you needed to get some fresh air. You grab your room keys and walked out the door. Koala was sitting on her bed with a grin on her face. "She's jealous~"
The door slammed shut and you trudge your way outside. The pathway that lead to the school was decorated with colorful flowers that lined on either side of the path. Nevertheless it was still scary walking down that path when the night was quiet. Thank goodness that it was still bright out.
You look around warily as your feet started to walk faster without you even noticing it. An bird chirped not too far away and you gasp as a family of squirrels (or was it chipmunks?) scurried up one of the pine trees, causing the branches to sway with a creak.
The sound of footsteps caught your hearing and you stopped, wondering if it was someone you knew. Maybe Ace? No, no. His height would have made it sound lighter than this. It could be one of the girls but knowing how they are then they would all still be in their rooms trying on make-up and fixing their hair.
Without even considering the consequences of the fact that maybe the footsteps belonged to a cold-blooded killer, you called out, "Hello?"
The footsteps stopped once the word left your lips. Responded by eerie silence, you could feel your skin crawl from the fear of not being alone. The flapping of wings were the only things that sounded around you but it didn't make you feel any better. If anything, it made you feel even more scared of who's out there. Blood draining from your face and heart beat escalating, you swallowed as your throat began to dry.
After what seemed like eternity, the sounds of heavy footsteps returned, this time it was going to your direction.
'Well, shit.'
Not knowing what to do or where to go, you just stood there like a sitting duck. You could almost feel the man's blade slit your throat to silence you, you hold a hand to your neck and gulped.
From the group of trees to your right, a man came out wearing a familiar blue and white mask over his face. He was wearing a sleeveless white shirt which showed the bandages that covered his arm. The two of you stared at each other silently.
You relax as the man gave you a friendly wave. "Hi." You greet awkwardly, waving back as he approached you.
"You're (Name), right?" He asks. His shaggy blonde hair was so long that it reached his thighs. Must be a pain to comb.
"Yes, I am. Who are you?" You inquire the familiar stranger. You remember seeing him sometimes hanging out with Kid, your unintentional enemy that tried to kill you several times last week.
"Killer." He replies, holding out his hand to you.
You felt your legs went numb and your heart beat went a million miles an hour, unexpectedly you fall forward and he catches you in his arms. "You okay?" He asks, steadying you as you grab on to him for support. Your legs were shaky and your arms were starting to lose their senses.
"Please don't hurt me!" You say in a panic.
The man just chuckles and makes you sit down on the ground, he sits in front of you. You couldn't tell what he was thinking since his mask covered his face so you just waited for him to do something. He glances to the direction of the path you had taken and sees the girl's dorm.
"Shouldn't you be getting ready for tonight?" He inquires curiously.
"Well, yeah, but I don't need that much make-up and I was thinking of wearing my hair down anyway." You explain to him, eyeing his bandaged arm before looking down at your own. "Shouldn't you be in the infirmary?"
Killer stares at your arms and frowns behind his mask. "So Portgas did that to you, huh?"
"No, I'm the one who grabbed him." You defended.
He chuckles lightly and stands up, "No need to get upset. I was just asking." He says, waving his hand and walking back into the forest.
Killer seemed friendlier than Kid and he was always the one who tried to get Kid to calm down whenever he saw your face. Though you are grateful to him, you couldn't help but wonder why he would do that for you. It seemed odd.
If the partner picking was going to be random, you hoped you didn't get paired with Kid out of sheer bad luck. Killer would be more tolerable than that red-haired hothead. You stand up and dusted off the dirt from your bottom.
"I wonder who will pick me..."
