The Debt (lyttlejoe) (Wk - 2)
The Debt
My masquerade came to light upon
our bitter wedding night when she saw
through my lie, and that I wouldn't get a
penny no matter how hard I'd try. My
gambling debts surpassed the meagre
savings I'd amassed. Desperation filled
my need that drove me to the deed when
I pushed her and down she fell. That
it wasn't accidental no one could tell,
my display of artificial grief brought me
great relief that it let no suspicion dwell.
I thought it ended and she was gone,
my plan succeeded, my objective won.
But no matter where I go I see that
image clear, the one that fills my heart
with fear - and raises frightening neck hairs
each time I attempt to climb stairs.
