american animals has been in the works for about eighteen months now, which is crazy. it's been around longer than dynasty has, which is also crazy, since i think if this account is known for any fic it's dynasty. anyway, in the same way that american animals' plot/characters have gone through various iterations as i try to figure out what i want to do with it, so have the graphics. i think the way the graphics have progressed reflects my growth as a designer, so let's take a trip down memory lane!

here's the og cover!! a heavy motif in the story is insects, specifically butterflies, so even though this cover is a bit bare i like how it still incorporated the butterflies.

mark ii! again, a bit basic: this was my "wave effect" phase where every piece of text i typed had to be altered with the wave effect option, as the name suggests. this was around the point i started getting bored of the psd colouring i was using for the story, so i changed it up with the next cover.

this is the penultimate cover (i say that as if the one i have currently is going to be permanent, but if you know me as a person then you know it's definitely not). again with the wave effect, with a weird emphasis on pastel yellow... but i still liked it. the psd colouring is still quite similar, but now it draws out other colours instead of washing everything in peach-pink.

and now... drumroll please!

the current!! and my personal favourite!! the three people on the cover represent peter, spencer and spencer's sister, scout. the background is of course, the spider's web, and the font is meant to evoke a medieval, kingdom-ish vibe? (very eloquent, keene.) (thank you to tiffanyvaIentine for the font hook-up.) my go-to font when it comes to my own graphics is unfortunately arial, but i'm glad to be branching out, with both american animals as well as now you see me, which also uses a font that somehow isn't arial.

onto moodboards. i used to use a really heavy psd colouring for the american animals moodboards but to match the more muted colour schemes that my other fics have, i changed it.

these moodboards are all still pretty peach-y, i will admit, but i'm a lot happier with them. i think they also illustrate more about these versions of the characters than the original moodboards did.
