𝑥𝑖𝑖𝑖. Contest Prizes II
#013
APRIL 14, 2022
this update is solely for the graphic prizes i made for soulofstaars, the first-place winner of my graphics contest! thank you again julia for your beautiful entry. i hope you like your prizes! i definitely enjoyed making them; creating cover sets can be a long process but it always pays off at the end!
angel eyes & andante, andante were intended to match (or at least coordinate!) so i used photographs from the same photoshoot that both matched the 70s vibe of the songs the books' titles are based on. i really enjoyed making these covers, especially because i listened to abba while doing so and they're one of my favourite bands 😊😊 also because in general i love using film dust/film burn overlays.
when the clock strikes 12 was so fun to make! though i guess you can't really see it, the form said it had a "cinderella-retelling" and "sapphic enemies-to-lovers" energy, which you can see in the butterfly's wings! cinderella is also one of my favourite disney remakes, so i was really excited to play with the blue butterfly that appears often throughout the film.
killing boys is a banger of a halsey song and it's a sexy one, too, so i figured the cover should match! i kept the colours minimalistic with this one, but i think the sparseness of red makes it pop when it is actually used.
roman holiday is again another great halsey song and also a lovely (if not super-long) audrey hepburn movie. i combined both sources of inspiration for this cover, as well as julia's request that it have a "summer roadtrip" vibe! i don't usually make covers like this, but i love to experiment and get out of my comfort zone every now and then, and i'm really happy with how this turned out.
not shy! not me! itzaaaaaay! crazy in love was probably my favourite cover to make out of all of these! i put on my k-pop playlist and just did my thing. this cover was inspired by itzy's loco-era promotional pictures, which you can probably tell by the love hearts. save for the subtitle (graphic shop #6 by julia... which is mostly consistent style-wise throughout all the covers!) the type on this cover was hand-drawn by me. i don't know if i'll ever do that again, since i'm always questioning the legibility of my handwriting, but i'm glad it turned out well this one time.
the nemophilist covers were a bit tricky when it came to composing them, but i'm ultimately happy with how they turned out. i focused less on the faceclaim for this cover and placed an emphasis on the fairytale-esque theme julia requested! of course, the folklore/evermore font came through as it always does 🛐🛐
lovesick girls was another cover i really enjoyed making. i don't really know how to describe the process with this one, but it combined elements of covers i usually make for myself as well as some stuff i've never tried before.
dracarys (like killing boys) took a darker turn tone-wise, but personally these are my favourite kinds of covers so i definitely had fun making it. this cover is inspired by a euphoria poster i saw on pinterest.
and here's the final cover—for julia's graphic portfolio feel my rhythm! for a lot of these covers i toyed with pngs, and this one was no different! it's always fun to try new things, and i'm glad i did for this one.
thank you again julia for entering my graphic contest! ilysm 🥺💖‼️
