𝑥𝑥𝑣𝑖𝑖𝑖. *JIGSAW VOICE* Hey Besties!

SEPTEMBER 27, 2023
hello everyone! i am procrastinating my Tertiary Studies which is why i am back here with some new graphics i've made! i hope you are all doing well.
first of all, a set of four covers for my drafted story, deep green. i am definitely not ever going to write this story, so i don't know why i even bothered creating one, let alone four, covers for it, but here we are 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 the protagonist of this story, ash, is cunty (in both a slayful way and in a literal, shitty-person way) so i guess i thought he deserved some cunty covers. the top left cover is just ripped from a character edit i made for him earlier this year; the top right would not function well as an actual cover since it obviously has no text, but i like the bruises / rot on *ash stand-in*'s skin as that's an actual physical manifestation of his powers in the story.
bottom left is inspired by my love wulfhall who is thee cover designer of all time. as it goes for most of my dc characters, ash's primary colours are green, red and black. i wanted to use these colours in isolation to each other, which i think (?) worked in this instance. ash's superhero mantle is primarily dieback, but he later goes by widowmaker. widow maker is a term used for trees that have heavy branches prone to falling and killing people. so that's why there's, on this cover, a random dude with a stump for a head and an axe wedged in it 👍 the collage of elements is what i drew from paloma, whose ability to put images together astounds me every time she does it 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭😚😚😚😚😚😚😚🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐
bottom right is... well there's a lot going on there and i don't really know what it's meant to mean. i did all these covers on the one photoshop document, with the intention of keeping everything consistent colour and font-wise. that's all i have to say about this one, really. it was made to match the others 😃 😃
next, we have a cover set for metalbenders' newer projects. you all i know i shoot for taryn, so i was more than happy to make these (in fact, i volunteered 😄). taryn still has most of the cover set i made previously in use on her account, so i wanted to keep the same kind of vibe for the new covers i was making. i used the psd colouring i use for my own cover theme, placing a focus on red and white as i made these. as you can see, i also used the same font family the entire way through, only varying in weight to create a clean, cohesive look. my favourite is probably godspeed 🧐
i also made covers for taryn's rework of her fic vengeful, now named deathstalker. vengeful is one of my favourite stories ever on this platform, so i was again ecstatic to be able to make the new cover for it! i made two versions, a cleaner white version and an inverted "bloodied" one. i also kept these to the cover theme above, so the five covers all match.
🗝️
i was still procrastinating at this time (and currently am as well... NO-ONE SAY ANYTHING OR I'LL BLOW MYSELF UP! 💣) so i was like hey, why don't i make MYSELF a cover theme? another one, at least? so here we are. when making cover themes, for me the primary goal is creating covers that look good together as a unit. so that means nothing too fancy or detailed. you run the risk of making something boring LMFAO and i think you need to have more than 5 books on your profile to have such a theme.
which i do have. because all i do is publish shit, as opposed to working on the projects i currently have on my plate.
("boring" is a reductive term that i'm only using for my @/bayports cover theme, by the way 😁 no shade to anyone else, i just literally have named these covers "boring" in my files LOL)
anyways. for my superhero stories i typically slap my personal psd over the pre-existing comic cover and keep it as is, because the boring-ness of the other covers is broken up by the visual stimulation of the comic art. that's why witch burning's cover is just a red-washed version of a cover i've been using for it since the beginning of forever. i gave timefighter the same treatment, and just "gradient map"'d it. i don't want everything to look *too* uniform on my profile, especially because my stories span different fandoms and themes and to make everything look exactly the same would detract from the things that make them interesting.
with that in mind, witch burning, timefighter and unspun keep the fonts i've set aside for their original, non-theme covers. unspun ties into american animals with the use of green, as they are (literally) sister stories, green being a colour used sparingly throughout this theme. red is a dominant colour in most of my stories' graphics, and blue is used of course in the spider-man suit (as seen on now you see me's cover) but in dynasty as the colour of house kryze. american animals is primarily green because of spencer's mantle as mantis and harry osborn's as green goblin. there's also the mental association of green with poison, which is another reason it's on unspun's cover, too.
now you see me's cover is a work in progress, but because i only have one other comic cover currently (witch burning) i wanted another with comic art. the art on this cover is by paolo rivera. i used the warp tool for this title, and so, because cohesion comes in twos (said by no-one ever, except for me apparently) i used that same tool again for the hellions cover. hellions also matches witch burning with the gradient map tool, but differs visually in its text colour. which i liked.
nine lives and kill it! are another subset, utilising blocks of black space and bolded font. kill it! reworks, vaguely, a cover i made for a now-retired dc story (death kit, if anyone remembers) and i used blocked colour here to tie back to the red and blue used across the rest of the theme.
berenstein is just the old cover adjusted with the new font LMFAO. nothing to say about that. dynasty (with gorgeous art by stephen zavala) is the matching cover for this one; both utilise a simple background with an equally-simple title.
i hope this all makes sense. like i felt super mentally ill typing it all out, but i feel like if you take a step back it's logical? on a separate note, i would be great at creating saw puzzles.
let me know what you think!
