Chapter Five

The place held too many memories. Too many memories that you've been trying to forget, but it seemed that the universe wasn't finished with them yet. Maybe the whole concept of Chris taking you to this restaurant was to make you realize that you needed to move on. You needed to forget the past and focus on the present. You didn't know why you were treating this whole fake proposal thing as if it was actually going to happen, but it felt pretty real to you. You only took five minutes in the restroom, the entire time practically telling yourself that you needed to suck it up and forget about it.

Leaving on that note, you marched out of the ladies room and back into the place where you were going to be proposed to. You were going to treat it as a band-aid and rip it off instantly. You caught the eye of Chris as you came walking back to your seat. You sat down and nodded in confirmation to him. Chris didn't say a word and nodded back, reaching into his coat pocket. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath before Chris slid out the velvet cased ring box, with the perfect shade of red.

Chris scooted out from underneath the table stood up, clearing his throat. His eyes glistened with glee as he began to declare his entire speech to you about how in love he was. You knew that it wasn't real. You knew it was fake, but why did it feel so real? Chris seemed to just have that genuine smile that would capture the heart of a woman in a heartbeat. Throughout his speech, it took immediate action and caught the attention of the customers all around. It wasn't long until people began pulling out their phones and recording.

Many reactions were happening, it was definitely giving you the vibes of when the man before Chris proposed to you. Trying hard not to imagine it, you attempted to focus on Chris, only to find yourself imagining the man before replacing the figure and face of Chris once again. The lights, people murmuring all around you must have triggered the memory within your mind. In a blink of an eye, Chris had turned into him. He shined his pearly whites your way and carelessly ran his fingers through his mousy brown hair.

Time slowing down, he lowered down to one knee, clutching onto the ring box in his inside coat pocket. One blink later, he was Chris again and on his one knee. He smiled widely as he happily opened up the ring box, revealing the most gorgeous diamond ring you had ever laid your eyes upon.

"[Y/N] [Y/M/N] [Y/L/N]. Will you marry me?"

"Yes Chris! Yes!" you shrieked in delight, nodding quickly. You reached out your left hand that Chris held and smoothly slid the engagement ring upon. He definitely got your ring size on the first try. "I love you so much Chris!"

You wrapped your arms around him while he was still kneeling down. He wrapped his right arm around your waist and picked you up off the ground as he stood back up. He was always the toughest man you knew. Chris swung you around, placing soft kisses all along your face and neck during the process. Applause came from the customers watching along with some whistles here and there. As Chris put you down, he leaned in and gave you the most meaningful kiss you had ever experienced.

You closed your eyes and melted into his arms as he continued the lovely smooch. The moment shortly came to an end, and finished your gaze meeting with each other powerfully. Chris held you close as you stared deep into his ocean blue eyes. He was quite the kisser.

"I love you [Y/N]," chris whispered softly, lightly licking his lips. "I'm the luckiest man ever to soon call you my wife. You're going to officially be Mrs. Evans."

"Mrs. Evans sounds good to me," you responded with a playful smirk. "can we eat now?"

Chris released you. "Of course we can."

News got around fast, but you were used to it being a celebrity and all. At the end of your date, you couldn't even walk back to your apartment without getting bombarded with paparazzi and congratulations from strangers on the street. Chris walked with you to your apartment room and kept making jokes along the way.

"This is amazing, we're already trending number one on Twitter and YouTube!" you exclaimed in shock, as Chris leaned forward to press your floor number on the elevator. "This is insane Chris. I actually think we're going to pull this off."

"Pull it off? We already have pulled it off," chris responded with a happy smile. "I can't wait for you to meet all my family and friends. They're going to love you."

"I never got around to this but um, why did you need a fake wife exactly?"

Falling silent, the elevator dinged which indicated that you two have reached your floor. The elevator doors parted open and you two stepped out. Chris shyly shoved his hands into his pockets as he walked you down the hallway. His sudden silence had raised your curiosity. Chris walked you up to your apartment door, but before you two parted ways, you grabbed him by the arm. He stopped and turned to look at you, gradually turning red as he made eye contact with you.

"Chris? Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?" you asked suspiciously, narrowing your eyes at him. "I'm sure your reason can't be that embarrassing."

"Well um...Fine," he huffed, inhaling deeply. "I was asked if I was married and I paniced which resulted in me speaking your name," he confessed briefly.  "you were the first one to come to mind when I thought of marriage. I don't know why, but you just seem like the perfect wife."

"I'm flattered Chris, I really am," you accepted, patting him on the shoulder. "I've had experience with being someone's fiancée before anyways."

"Wait...What?"

You sealed your lips shut as soon as you realized what words just left your mouth. It was late and your mind was probably shutting down, but you knew that if you stayed with Chris any longer, you were going to be exposed. You awkwardly cleared your throat and turned toward your apartment door. You shoved your keys into the hole and bid your farewell with Chris.

"Thank you for the wonderful night Chris, I really do appreciate it," you thanked, turning the knob. "I um...I'll see you tomorrow."

"Who was the man [Y/N]?"

You froze in the position with your hand on the knob. You didn't know if you had the strength to open the door with that man on your mind.

"I'd rather not say Chris," you muttered softly, swinging your eyes over to meet with his. "at least not tonight."

You gave a small sad smile at Chris before pushing the door open and walking in. You closed the door and Chris stood there in deep thought. Numerous questions swarmed his mind, but overall, he knew that you were warming up to him, and he knew he was getting somewhere, and that was all that he wanted.
