Chapter Two
It always surprised you on how much a cap and sunglasses could hide a person, which was the apparel you and Chris were wearing on the into the bakery. The drive to the location consisted of one word answers from you to Chris. He tried to go along with it, but you weren't giving him anything to work with, so he just remained quiet until you both reached the location. The sweet aroma of delicious baked goods lingered in the air the second you two entered. It caused your stomach to growl a little louder than you wanted.
"You're really hungry, aren't you?" chris joked, glancing over at you. "You can buy anything you want, I promise I won't judge."
You give nothing but a nod to Chris, and look forward at the menu above the cashier. You squint at the words, immediately knowing what you wanted. You didn't tell Chris and step up to the employee at the front desk.
"Hello, may I have—"
"OH MY—YOU'RE [Y/N] [Y/L/N]!" she shrieked in surprise. You draw back a little from the abrupt screech. You were definitely awake now. "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY HERE!"
Murmurs started spreading within the little room from the other customers. You mentally groan to yourself, you just wanted to have homemade pancakes, eggs and bacon.
"Out of all the bakery's around here, why this one?!" she said, her voice still blaring. You sigh tiredly, you really didn't feel like answering questions. "Can I get a picture with you?! Please! I am in love with your movies!"
Chris was quick to notice your irritated reaction and stepped into the situation. "Excuse me ma'am, we would just like to order some food, we're kind of on a tight schedule right now."
Chris's interference resulted in the employee to freak out even more, making you even more annoyed. She started blabbering continuously to Chris about her older brother being a huge fan of Captain America. You turn around only to see the customers approaching you with their phones out.
"You've got to be kidding me," you exclaimed unhappily. "I just want food!"
It was as if everybody was completely deaf and only saw the celebrity in the bakery instead of the human. All they cared about was getting pictures with either you or Chris, and others even wanted pictures with both! What fans they were. They acted like if they didn't get a picture, meeting you never even happened. Chris stepped in front of you and called everybody out.
"This isn't a meet and greet you guys," he announced, trying to stay as polite as possible. "it's just two friends going out for morning breakfast. Please, don't bother us and leave us alone. We would like to eat in peace."
"Wait? Is this a date?" a random person asked loudly from the group. "I can't believe that you and [Y/N] are dating!"
Dating? That was the only thing they got out of the whole "Leave us alone" request. Wow. They jump to conclusions just as fast as they do online. The group of people were gradually making themselves closer, upsetting Chris. You were distracted with what was going on in front of you, you didn't notice that the employee at the front desk had hopped over the counter and was now walking toward you.
You squeak in shock from the sudden grip on your wrist. You whip around, getting tugged toward the woman, who was desperately pleading for a picture with you. Your little noise caught Chris's attention, which made him turn around. His eyes widened as he detected the contact the woman was having with you. He lunged at the employee, his voice dropping as deep as you have ever heard it gone.
"GET YOUR DAMN HANDS OFF OF [Y/N]!" he bellowed, his hand grasping onto the employees. He ripped her hand off of your wrist. "Don't you ever touch her again."
The astonished woman backed away, rambling her apologies. You weren't expecting Chris to lash out like that. His nostrils were flared, and his eyebrows were furrowed as he turned his attention back to the group of people. Everybody seemed to have been slowly backtracking from him.
"We're going somewhere else!"
Chris glanced at you, motioning to you to follow him. You listen to the disappointed reactions from the group of people. They started yelling for you and Chris to come back, constant apologies were repeated. You didn't care though, you were as furious as Chris was. They were intruding your privacy and privacy was all you wanted. You storm out of the bakery with Chris, side by side.
Chris took the lead and hurriedly started heading toward a little sandwich shop next door. You were right behind him as he picked up his speed into the shop. You felt extremely lucky as you saw the group of people rush past the store, not aware that you and Chris were inside it. A small chuckle leaves your lips.
"We really can't catch a break, can we?" you say softly. "What I would give to do what I love without fame coming with it."
Chris agreed and twisted around to see that the shop was completely empty. The sound of someone speaking was soon heard from the kitchen.
"Wait, did somebody actually come inside?" asked a feminine voice. "Do we actually have a customer?"
You and Chris slowly walk up to the front desk. The curtains that led into the kitchen open up and a middle aged woman came walking out. She covered her mouth as she saw you and Chris. You wince, not wanting to runaway again, you were too hungry.
"Oh my goodness! We have customers!" she screeched in delight. You exchange glances with Chris and look back at the lady. "Hello! Welcome to Sandra's Sandwich Shop! Order whatever you want! We will get it ready right away!"
A wave of relief washes over you as you realized that she only saw you as customers and not as celebrities. Chris stepped forward and ordered his food, and you were right after. The glad woman typed it into the cashier and asked for the money which Chris happily gave to her, even more than he needed to. She thanked him sincerely and Chris led you to a booth.
You slide into the booth, amazed at the cleanliness of the table, they really kept it nice and tidy in there. Chris slid in the other side and released a sigh of calmness.
"I'm so sorry about that [Y/N]," he apologized shyly. "I really didn't mean to snap like that, it was just that you were in danger and I felt like I had to do something."
"You don't need to be sorry," you reassure with a shrug. "I wanted to thank you for practically saving me from almost being mauled by fans. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been able to make it out. Thank you for standing up for me. I really owe you a favor."
Chris perked up. "Favor?" he asked with an eyebrow raise. His eyes lowered to the table. "I...I actually need one right now if you're willing."
"Ask away."
"Well, you're an amazing actress and I'm in need of a fake wife for this one event I'm attending," chris explained, causing your heart to skip a beat. "if you didn't mind...be my fake wife?"
"You know, what the hell man," you respond nonchalantly. "I'm down."
