Prologue
17 July 1680
OPHELIA woke to the violent movements of the large ship she was on. Rain pounded the deck and waves battered the entirety of The Empress. Ophelia rocked off of her hammock onto the cold and wet wood floor. The ship was about two days away from its final destination as it drew closer to a mysterious and desolate island. Men were shouting orders above Ophelia's quarters and her concern raised at the clamour. Voices she could only describe as heavenly began singing. All the commotion on the deck of the ship ceased and the crew stopped working. They were in a trance-like state when Ophelia emerged from below the decks, dressed only in her nightgowns and robes. A giant wave crashed onto the ship, causing Ophelia to fall to the ground. The salty water stung her eyes and she choked on the water that tumbled down upon her. Lightning crashed into one of the masts. There was a deafening crack as the wood splintered off into two separate sections. Ophelia screamed, watching the towering mast fall on some of the crew. The white sails cloaked Ophelia from the world outside her. Her heart thudded quickly against her chest and fear gripped her body. The men hit by the mast were now screaming in agony. The rest of the crew was unwilling to help as they stood still, fixated on the beautiful melody.
Over all the ruckus, Ophelia could still hear the lovely voices reaching out towards the ship. The chorus of angels become louder and closer towards the ship, but they were not angels. Ophelia struggled out from under the sails and what she saw was absolutely horrifying. Creatures that were half fish were clamouring onto The Empress. They had terrifying fangs and their tails transformed into legs when they reached the deck of the ship. Ophelia was helpless and could only scream and sob as they took control of the ship. She curled up into a ball near the door to the cabins, which was blocked off by the large mast. Most of the crew was dragged into the sea, while others were eaten alive right in front of her. It was her turn to be attacked by the monstrous creatures. The ship was sinking into the harsh and unforgiving sea and Ophelia went down with it. A blonde creature dragged her further down into the sea until she could no longer see the moonlight or the ship. She still could not get the horrendous screams out of her head in the silence of the water. She inhaled the salt water surrounding her and felt a sharp pain in her lungs as she drowned. With no one beside her but the blonde creature that sent her down into oblivion, Ophelia cried into the merciless waters.
