To Impa,
I didn't want to do this. I need to. I have no choice. For a moment I figured the war was done. But I have reason to believe that even if Bludo is dead, we may never experience the end. His successor has killed him. Take that secret to your grave unless you feel it necessary to share. Unfortunately for me, I require you to please take longer care of my son. I don't doubt for a moment that your better judgement shall be a better way of raising him should something happen.
A million thank you's and best wishes,
Link
Dear Link,
I would be honoured to watch over your son. Arthur has been a joy to look af-
"Arthur no!" Paya called from her room. A bowl spilled as Impa sighed.
-ter albeit quite a handful at once. He takes on after his mother's stubbornness but he earned his sweet nature out of you. He will be safe with us. That is a promise.
Regards,
Impa
Link carefully folded the paper and placed it into his pocket. It was wise of Impa to not discuss the Gorons lest someone found the letter. Being Zelda's mentor once upon a time, it seemed right that Arthur was under her wing. Perhaps it may even better him that way... Link shook his head. He's my son. I am not to give him up just like that. With that he patted his pocket and gently tapped his horse to move up the hill. Alone.
Brown soot, a dirt path, slow enemies, flightless birds, warm climate, blue sky decorated in black fog. A single noble heading up a winding path. Goron city. Metal bridges, caves for shops and homes. Lava pooling every which way, and a stubborn horse unable to take the heat. Link fed him a carrot and sent him down the hill as he stood in his newfound clothing. Thin robes of the Zora cloaking him. It was his opal circlet and two earings dangling down his long ears. His hair was braided. His shirt was a blue one draping down in coat tails to his knees. He wore white Hylian trousers.
The smell of burning brimstone was even more prominent here. And to add to it, unlike yesterday the streets were more full. All Goron were standing like an audience watching one thing, Yunobo at the front. He was reading from Bludo's will. Then his speech about how thrilled he was to have leadership. Link, not wanting to be rude listened in for the time being and kept himself on the down low.
"Today is a day I didn't expect so suddenly..." Yunobo said shakily. His knees clacking together. "I just... I didn't want this so soon and...haha..." He stuttered. How could a man so innocent turn into a murderer? Link asked himself. He shook his head and kept listening. "It will be an honor to have you working for me. Although I'd like to see this more as me working for all of you...s-so...ah-!" His scroll fluttered away in the wind like a scared dove trying to escape a bear. "I guess you guys get the idea, Goro."
Some smiles showed up and applause was given. Link saw the tenseness in Yunobo ease up a touch. He smiled and put his fist up and the crowd went more enthusiastic. So Link cheered for his friend as if nothing were wrong.
Then the crowd disbanded and Link walked more closely towards Yunobo. Finally, when he received the attention his friend gave him a big Goron hug. "Little bro! I didn't expect you, Goro!" He chirped. Link coughed a bit. "Careful with m-me!" Link gasped while grinning. "I know you missed seeing me on good terms but I haven't felt well lately you know?" He explained.
The hug was gentler now but he was still held too long. As if Yunobo were distracted before letting Link go. "It's great to see you again. You look amazing!" Yunobo exclaimed. Link caught himself smiling. "So looks like your the next big boss huh?" Link asked punching Yunobo's arm. "Looks like it. I wish it weren't true but it'll happen. Hey maybe it'll be better then our last boss." Yunobo thought aloud. Link went quiet. "Too soon?" Yunobo asked. Link shook his head. "Ah, it's fine! I get it you know? He needed to step down by now. Is Bludo home sick?" Link asked this so painfully. He knew what the answer was. But needed Yunobo to let his guard down again.
"He passed away last night the same way a lot of our bosses had..." Yunobo said. "Natural causes was all," he added. Link put on a sad face. "That's terrible. I'm so sorry for your loss..." Link uttered. "Don't be. It was his time to go anyways, and we both know why..."
"What do you-"
"Hey boss! Is that Link I see?" A small kid Goron beemed.
"That it is young lad!" Link greeted back. It was another fan of his. "Could you sign my book please? It's all the legends about you!" The child explained. Link signed his name, his first and only known name. Then the child thanked him and ran off to his older brothers book in hand. I always loved kids. So innocent and inexperienced. One day they have to face our world. Responsibility. Overwhelming authority. Arthur should soon grow the same perhaps. It'll pain me so hard to watch him as he stops being a kid just to rule this kingdo-
"Link?" Yunobo called. Link slapped himself and looked up at the new mine owner. "Sorry! Won't happen again. I'm just tired is all. Long trip from the domain so I-"
"-Thats fine!" Yunobo reassured. "We have an inn but I can treat you to a stay at my cabin. There's a new bed open since...Oh! Duh. It's straw and coals. It wouldn't suit you would it? I'll pay for your bed at the inn. Goron massage! My treat!" He offered. In a odd way, this moment made Link remember Sidon.
"Sounds wonderful," Link mumbled above a whisper. (In an attempt to sound relaxed no doubt.)
Hours passed and Link just now dragged himself from bed. The moon was high and shiny. A pink tint began to glow, implying of the blood moon coming up that midnight. The Hinox that started this mess was going to rome the fields somewhere tonight. What a pleasant mindset to have on a night like this...Link thought. He dawned his cape and lifted the hoodie above it to hide himself better in shadow. From the neck down he wore his shieka stealth outfit. All dyed black to hide himself in shadow.
Now was the fun part. Climbing up the hills behind the inn.
By the time he reached the top, Link realised he'd completely forgotten about Revali' s gale. He felt breathless. How could it be so hard to remember this basic stuff? Had it really been so long since he'd last worked so hard?
How is my Arthur going to put himself through training to tolerate this much stamina useage when he comes to be my age? After a life of luxury he won't la-
Link jumped and glided over the empty city to shut up his mind. He stuck the landing on the roof of the boss's home. Then carefully snuck behind it to peak between cracks in the rocks. Had he just walked he could've missed out on this, or worse be spotted by Gorons going about their night. None of the buildings exactly had doors.
Yunobo sat on his bed. Guards came in under some quiet voices. "Boss. He's said he told us everything. We have the info Bludo asked for." Yunobo rubbed his neck and nodded. "Alright, so should we free him?"
"His old body couldn't handle the water ever again. We tried to rehydrate him but he'd been here so long he may not be able to survive anywhere else. He's old too, putting him out of his misery may work. Fikan here acknowledged against it but in the end it's up to you," the guard said gesturing to the other guard next to him. "We give him the option then, stay or be mercifully executed," Yunobo said. "Take me to him, I wanna ask him myself. Only seems fair, Goro."
Link felt amazed. Had Yunobo just been more serious? Was he about to do something so insane? To give someone a option between dying or remaining prisoner?
Maybe he's not who I thought. But with no context...maybe there'd be home yet.
Link followed behind in winding paths up and down hills till a small dungeon was found. Only three caves with bars were seen. Only one had been shut. They looked fairly large. Each having a pressure plate infront of the door to stand on, when Yunobo stood on this plate he opened the door.
Immediately Link put it together. Because of the heavy rockfalls coming from Death Mountain maybe a rock landed on one of these plates and set the Hinox free?
"Muzu? Are you up?" Yunobo called. Immediately Link felt his heart sink. He hadn't seen him since the tunnel incident. He said he was tired and went back to the inn. So one of two things happened...one, he was captured. Or two, he did this on purpose and was working with the Gorons.
"I'm awake yes...Ive said all there is to say...may I go please?" He asked. "You can't handle the other climates anymore. Your body will be too frail now. We can keep giving you elixir or you can be mercifully executed. It's your decision." Yunobo claimed. Then a pause went through the night.
Even though you hated me. Even though you have nothing left. Even if you did do something wrong...dont die yet...
Link held his breath as the blood moon went overhead, then back to the moon as normal. It was midnight. A dawn of a new day.
"Execution. Peaceful as I may get ...please..." Muzu sighed. Link tried not to gasp in air.
Nonononononononononononononono
The cave went quiet. Then Yunobo walked out with two gaurdsmen. This time, he left the jaildoor open. A shriveled old Zora walked out with his weak head low. "We have a long walk...Stirok. Send Link my farewells in the morning." The guard named Stirok trampled off. Leaving Muzu, Yunobo, and in the shadows was Link.
The walk lead them to Death Mountain. The top of it. The path was something Link recognised. It was the same path he used to enter Vah Rudania. Which if he recalled, had plenty of opportunity to slow Yunobo down with and keep him from reaching the top for a few hours or so. So Link hurried up ahead of them and avoided gathering attention. Using his magnesis to hold with Link tricked Yunobo into thinking old guardian drones were still in operation. Sending a fleet for him, making him run down the hill without Muzu.
Link threw the drones after Yunobo, they skidded down the gravel with heavy friction. Muzu did not move one step however. Rather he continued to look down as Link chased to him.
"We have to go! " Link said grabbing Muzu's hand. However it was yanked back. Then they just stood silently. Link wiped his eyes from dust. "I mean it! We have to GO!!!"
Silence.
Long silence.
A steady pause.
One that managed to echo regardless that it had no sound. Muzu looked up at Link revealing how awful he looked. His eyes a sickly yellow. "I have nowhere to go. Nowhere I want to...I could die outside this mountain. And I'm not going home to tell Sidon what I'd done even if I could live..."
"Wh...what did you...?"
"Everything I know. I know about it all...now Yunobo knows. He didn't talk long enough to Sidon but he managed to get me to explain he wouldn't ever trust him. So I heard he was discussing an attack outside my cell...you have to get Arthur out! You have to get the whole Domain to evacuate!" Muzu blubbered as tears streamed his cheeks. "Do you know he's to attack us?!" Link asked as he saw a shadow coming up. "I'm certain! Kill him in his sleep tonight I beg you!" He cried.
Link would've stood flabbergasted had Yunobo not been seen just barely out of sight. Link hid on the side of the cliff. The boss returned and the walk continued. Link could never bare watching the execution. So he left. Unsure of the things he could say now. The Goron boss was a threat for certain.
Using his slate he went back to Goron city. Then cried.
