The Library
"He's here again." Izzy sang
The library wasn't a horrible place to work. It was leaps and bounds better than working under Madam Ditsy. There was internal heating, comfortable working chairs and peace and quiet to work on his assignments. Izzy wasn't bad company as he first thought it would be. A little talkative, but pleasant to be around.
Izzy rolled her office chair across to Jaxon's station. Resting an arm on his shoulder, she pointed over to the blonde boy sitting at his usual desk. The pink of his tongue peaking through his lips as the tip of his stylus moved away on his tablet's screen. Jaxon scoffed and looked away at the sight.
"C'mon... you can't ignore a scent bond forever. You know it and he knows it." Izzy clasped her fingers together. "Its like a spiritual connection!" She laughed.
"Sounds lovely, but not for me." Jaxon replied, turning his attention down to the book he was reading. "I have more than enough on my plate. I came to this school for an education, not for a romance novel."
Izzy giggled, which earned her some odd stares from neighbouring students. "You may say that, but destiny begs differently!"
"You and this destiny." He mused.
Despite his overall rejection of this scent bond, Jaxon's eyes couldn't help but travel up to the blonde alpha. Head bowed and eyes locked onto his tablet. His bushy brows furrowed, and the tip of his tongue peeked from his pink lips.
Jaxon sighed and rose from his seat. Izzy moved to open her mouth but was met with a halting hand.
"Don't say it." Jaxon spoke and slipped from behind the librarian table. Ten steps later, he was towering over the seated alpha.
Elliott didn't seem to notice his presence. That was until he tried to steal a glance, only to be confused to where the omega vanished.
"When did he..." Elliott's nose flared. His eyes snapped up.
"What have you been so focused on?" Jaxon questioned.
Elliott scrambled desperately to put his tablet away. He immediately strained himself up to look at the taller omega. "Hey! How are you?"
"How am I?" Jaxon tested.
"Yeah. How are you? Jaxon right?" Elliott smiled.
Jaxon blinked at the older man. Wasn't he just sputtering around? Now he is trying to act like Mr. Smooth.
"Yeah...Are you okay?"
Elliott grinned. "Why wouldn't I?"
Jaxon pursed his lips and said, "For one thing, you are reading Pride and Prejudice."
Elliott's cheeks visibly darkened while his bushy eyebrows furrowed. "I'll let you know this is for a project! A writing assignment. I wouldn't be reading this kind of book. It's obviously the only reason why."
Jaxon held up a hand. "I could give a rats ass why you are reading that book." Jaxon placed a hand on the firm wood desk. The alpha visibly stiffens at the abrupt thud. even more so as the omega levelled him a look. "I was just asking. You had the same book for three weeks. The assignment is that hard." Jaxon added.
Elliott's mouth felt dry. "Yeah, pretty hard," he said.
Jaxon raised an eyebrow. Elliott's breath hitched.
"Tell me then. Who is the main character?" Jaxon questioned.
Elliott chuckled weakly. His palms felt unnaturally sweaty. Jaxon's look did not let up once. The blonde could almost taste the strong, leathery scent coming off the omega.
"Madam Pride?" Elliott tried.
Jaxon clicked his tongue. "If you say so." He responded by pulling away.
Elliot blanked. "Really?"
Jaxon shrugged. "You tell me. I haven't touched that book since English B." He responded. A halfway smile made its presence on his lips.
Elliott's heart stalled. He couldn't say anything, even if he wanted to. The desire to touch the man grew tenfold. But before he could even try, the universe said not today.
"Alright...I'll leave you to it." Jaxon said. Turning on his heels, the tall Indo-Guyanese omega walked away. He could feel blue eyes track his body as he slid back behind his desk. But when he turned around, the eyes were back where they always were. And there was Izzy, grinning like a cat.
"You two are so adorable," She sang.
"Shut up..."

Jaxon was packing away returned books. Another uneventful day at work has come and gone. Usually, he would head straight to his dorm. It's not like he would want to spend more time than he has to in this grand collection of dust mites and mothballs, though the peace was fantastic. However, Izzy took an early leave today on account of her heat so Jaxon had to do the ever-so-difficult task of placing the returned books back in their correct places. Pulling the large cart along, he placed the last few books, Jaxon could not believe people still used encyclopaedias in their correct space. Moving along the aisles and aisles of books, Jaxon couldn't help but laugh to himself. How had he find himself working in a library when he doesn't even like to read physical books? The thought of reading a physical book pains him to do yet it seems like this college got ties with a printing press. Virtually none of their books are in soft copies. Sucks for both his mind and his pockets.
Rounding towards the study areas, Jaxon's eyes lingered towards a familiar desk. It was odd being by the desk without the blonde's constant presence. His hands cascaded across the smooth wood. Small nicks and dents of crescent moons pattered the surface.
"These people real rich bai..." Jaxon said. Left inconspicuously on the desk was lovely and very expensive tablet. He had seen his cousin Christopher rant and rave about these type of tablets for years. Feather like weight, smooth bevelled sides and beautiful display - that person is crazy to leave such a nice thing out and open for the takers.
"Lemme leave this thing alone. God knows they gonna come search me up first. " Jaxon muttered. He gave one last look at the device before turning it over and back in its previous spot.
Jaxon was going to leave it right there. He was, until the home screen flashed before him. The young boy thought he was seeing things. Maybe he needed a new prescription. His eyes had to be playing tricks. But, no. It was just as it seemed. There in many angles and shades, were drawings of no other than yours truly. Back angle, front angle, side to side, whoever Dréw this had the time and patience to get this done.
"Look my ass for me..." Now Jaxon had to know who this tablet for. Not to return it. To file a restraining order or something. Jaxon knew all too well about those stalkers who start out innocent and then start envisioning how he would taste with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
Or maybe those things only happened in the States?
Either way, it was creepy. Who would want to draw him anyway? And so well too. The lines of his jaw down to the way he meticulously styled his hair, this man could not just be some random. Looking over the tablet with searching eyes, he hunted for something to give away the ownership. Popping off the case, Jaxon finds a tiny engraving into the metal. Jaxon scoffed.
"Elliott Braginski. How am I not surprised." Jaxon voiced.
Of course, the odd-looking alpha had to be his stalker. He was always here, sitting and pretending not to be watching. Thinking back, when has he not seen that blonde alpha here since he began working? Always sitting in the exact spot he himself was standing next to. Eyes dipped into this very tablet. It would sound really stalkerish if you asked him. Then again, if he were a stalker, which he has not ruled out, he would appear more places than a library. Jaxon has never gotten the vibe of someone following him.
Hell, its not like that alpha can do something to him.
Jaxon has always been tall. It's in his genes. Tall, broad shoulders, very masculine features and he could grow an actual beard—the Lord knows so many alpha's that can't do that and he's not including the female ones. His parents, teachers and even himself thought that being an alpha was basically in the bag for him. Then, when that sickening heat came, it burned all of those expectations away.
Still, despite whatever biology's in his body, he could still beat any alpha, especially that alpha if he ever tried some nonsense with him. He lay his pale hand on him, he and André will be digging ditches in the snow. He was sure Izzy would help if she found out.
"You can't ignore a scent bond forever..."
That crazy girl. Crazy but on the nail girl she is. "I can't believe I am actually considering this." Jaxon cursed.
But he is. Jaxon's mind raced with the idea. After having his ear yapped off with information about, it had a lot to work with. Him being here would make perfect sense. The bond urging him to be closer to him. For his thoughts to surround him and be obsessed. Jaxon teethed his bottom lip.
"Should I laugh or cry...fuck..." Jaxon placed the device back on the table. He needed straight answers. It's better to get it from the monkey's mouth than sit and overthink. He has to notice the tablet missing. He can't be that rich. Can he? It doesn't matter now. He will come back and when he does, his ass is Jaxon's.
~~~
'This little blonde alpha bitch.', Jaxon cursed as he peered over his computer screen.
Izzy peaked over and rolled a chair next to him. "Whose the bitch and whens the fight?" she asked in all the seriousness she could muster with that soft, cute voice she has.
"Nothing..." He replied. Annoyance not aimed at her but at the alpha, who refuses to show his face.
"You have been staring at that desk all shift." Izzy supplied.
Jaxon groaned. His eyes flicked upward to the clock. Just twenty more minutes until his shift is over and this alpha refused to show.
"Does it have to do with the fancy tablet Elliott left?" Izzy remarked.
Jaxon looked at her. "How you know its Elliott's?"
Izzy placed a hand on her cheek. "I don't know. I have two eyes, so I can see. You got four eyes and can't see the hearts Elliott shows for you."
Jaxon hissed through his teeth. "Lef' me alone then." Jaxon cursed.
Izzy shrugged. "Ooo, accent time. This got to be serious."
"I'm serious, Izzy. I got this under control." Jaxon calmed.
The dark-skinned omega looked at her budding new friend with a soft look. Her shoulders sagged and she pursed her lips. "Fine, but you know I'm here." With that said, Izzy pushed away from the desk and rolled back to her own.
A small part of him knows that Izzy is just trying to help. Izzy seems like a lot, because she is a lot but she's genuine and he can't imagine her just asking for her own gossipy interest.
The clock on the wall ticked and ticked with a steady pace. Most of the patrons moving along as the library comes to a close. Izzy returned with the large, empty cart behind her. Her large brown eyes watched her friend with worry. She barely understands how a boy could be so stubborn. Again, what does she know about boys and their tightly strung and wound-up feelings? In one full motion, she hoisted herself up on the desk. The focused omega didn't even spare her a glance. Eyes locked onto the empty space. Izzy pets through the neatly styled, ink-black hair.
"Izzy..." Jaxon started.
"Hey...I know what you are going to say. But trust me, I am not going to bring up the scent bond again.~~~" Izzy paused. "After, now. I am totally not mentioning the thing that shall not be discussed."
The brown-skinned male threw a tired glance up at the pink-haired girl. "Do you think that?" His voice trailed off.
"Think what?"
Jaxon bowed his head. "Nothing..."
Izzy's hand continued to stroke his head. "Don't do that, Jaxon. You had something to say. You know, after living with twelve older sisters, I like to think myself as a relationship guru."
Jaxon reeled back. "Twelve sisters?"
Izzy laughed and batted her hand. "My parents were traditionalist. Make the pack as big as they could."
"Shit...and I thought my Tantie had a lot of chicken."
Izzy shrugged. "Don't think yourself so smart, Jax."
"Don't call me that."
Izzy kept going, "My point is, if you want to talk about you and Elliot, I'm here for you." Izzy poked his side. "Unless you would rather discuss this with André."
Jaxon jumped. "Fuck no. André would just talk a heap of stupidness. Plus, he wouldn't understand. Relationships aren't his thing."
"He's your best friend; I think he would at least try to."
"André...just no. I would rather go and speak to the alpha himself before bring it up to 'Dré." Jaxon has known André since their parents introduce them to each other when they were toddlers. He knew that short-tempered omega like he knew himself. "He'll get too caught up in his feelings about it."
Izzy nodded. "Then let's do that. You talk to Elliott." Jaxon opened his mouth to protest but Izzy shot him a look. "It's clear that he has something for you. He's probably hiding from you or something along those lines. Best bet: hide under the desk and when he comes, Boom! You got him where you wanted him."
Jaxon blinked. "That can't possibly work."
~~~~
This might just work.
Jaxon dipped himself under the very table the tablet rests on. There was basically no one left in the library. Izzy promised to message him if Elliott is a no-show so he doesn't waste any more time on this plan. Jaxon was ready to come out on his own when the sound of footsteps alerted his senses. A pair of feet walked slowly around the table. Expensive leather shoes with perfectly tailored pants.
It had to be him. Or...a professor.
Jaxon gripped the two legs. A high-pitched yelp of surprise echoed off the bookcases. The figure tumbled to the ground and Jaxon pulled his body out from under the table.
"You!" Jaxon started. Just as he hoped, the blonde alpha, Elliott, scrambled on the floor. Tablet in hand and legs scrambling to get back upright. "You have some explaining to do."
The alpha's chest heaved as he regained his composure. "Jaxon..Hey. I can explain!"
"Start talking."
Elliott forced a gulp of air down to his lungs. Eyes scanning the irritated omega's features. "I am guessing you saw the tablet."
"I saw more than that. What's with the pictures? You mad? or are you one of those stalker types."
Elliot held his hands up. "No, no, no. No No I am not any of those things. I just...I..." A sweat droplet rolled down his cheek.
"Out with it!"
"God, those lips are so beautiful up close." Elliott all but whispered. A sheen of red caked his cheeks as the realisation he said that out loud hit him. He averted his eyes, like it burned him. 'How could I be so stupid.' His mind chastised. "Sorry...I...I didn't mean..." Elliott's voice trailed off when he finally met Jaxon's eyes again.
Jaxon blinked at the alpha. Lips slightly parted like he was going to say something but never got a chance to. He wasn't angry. Disgusted with the very sight of the alpha? No.
"Look...Elliott...just speak." Jaxon finally said. "What's with the drawings."
"They didn't all start off as you did. They were flowers, birds, and tiny little trees. But the more I sat here and drew,. Seeing you? I couldn't stop myself. You are just so beautiful." Elliott started to pace. Hands moving without clear direction. "From the day on the bus, I couldn't help it. Your scent, your hair, brown skin, perfect eyelashes... " His eyes locked back with Jaxon's. It was like a breath of fresh air. "Those lips. It makes me want to hold you and never let go. But I can't. You are not mine and I know that you are your own person. Not because your an omega and I'm an alpha that I can lay claim on you but you are driving me mad! I just..." Elliott was completely red in the face. His blonde hairline seemed even brighter than before. "Look, I will leave you alone. Pretend that I never said any of this." With that, Elliott rushed out of the library like the devil was on his tail.
Jaxon's eyes followed the blondes path until long after he has left. Izzy rushed into the room.
"Jaxon..You okay?"
Jaxon wets his lips. Fine prickles ran up and down his skin. His face felt indescribably warm to the touch. He's not sick, that's for sure. His heat was well enough away. The only probable answer is...
"Izzy...mind telling me a bit more about scent bonds?"
The young girl looked at boy for a breath. "What do you want to know?", she questioned.
Jaxon was reeling. He is trying tirelessly to bring his emotions back under control. A round, pounding sound vibrated against his eardrums like a carnival speaker. His body was so incredibly hot as his palms were sweaty. The young omega didn't know what to make of it. It wasn't natural the way that male made him feel.
Wetting his lips for about the third time, he said to Izzy, "Just, I don't understand. I can't-"
Izzy's hands held him close. A soft press of their bodies together in a sweet embrace. Pink nails become lost in a see of black. The tall male dwarfed in the smaller omega's hold.
"Should I call André?" Izzy whispered.
"No...I should be fine." Jaxon muttered against her shoulder. Her sweet scent calmed his frazzled nerves.
Izzy pulled away. Her eyes locking with Jaxon's. "If you want, we have the whole library for ourselves. We could do some research."
Jaxon nodded. "Sounds good."
~~~~
"I think I found something!" Izzy announced as she hopped down from the ladder.
It was getting late. The late-night chilling winds swirl around outside the library's door. Dimmed light so as not to give away their presence to campus security. Jaxon shifted his coat on tighter as he adjusted himself to look at the book Izzy so eagerly presented for him.
"So, it's kind of artisanal, but it talks about how scent bonds are formed." Izzy flipped through the yellowing pages of the book. The young male eyes burned looking at the words on the page. The letters were always jumbled and twisted beyond comprehension.
"Scent bonds, also known as Vinculum Amoris in Latin, are formed between Alpha and Omega pairs that exhibit chemical compatibility. Upon first scenting, it establishes a connection that closely resembles the tie formed between physically mated couples. "
Jaxon furrowed his eyebrows. "So, he and me are bonded or something?"
"Not quite." Izzy countered. Her eyes going back to the book. "Nevertheless, in contrast to conventional bonded pairings, these Scent Bonds have the potential to be fatal for both the Alpha and Omega individuals if the link is not reciprocated. This may occur as a result of rejection, abandonment, or death."
"What if I don't like him. It doesn't say it has to be sexual. We could just be cool with each other." Jaxon said.
Izzy hummed. "Are you sure? You really don't like Mr. Blonde and blue eyes."
"I'm sure of it." Jaxon confirmed.
Izzy tapped his warming cheek. "So, is that why you haven't told André about him? Why don't you go and tell your dear best friend about your stalker boy?"
"Because André will flip out. He will make sure that Elliott never shows his face again!"
"And...you don't want that now, do you?"
Jaxon had to admit that she's good.
"Fine. I think I have a thing for the man. It's not like its going to work out. Me and him are two different set of people. Scent Bond or not."
Izzy cracked a smile at Jaxon. "Don't worry, Jax'. Things may just surprise you." Fixing the collar of his coat, she led the omega to his feet. "Let's get out of here. It's getting pretty cold."
"Yeha. Let's head out." Jaxon mumbled. He reached for the book, but Izzy was quick to swipe it from its spot. "Izzy..."
"Don't worry. I'll keep this for safekeeping!"
