About an hour had passed and mostly everyone had left the park,and the sun began to set" you guys ready to do this thing? unless you're  gonna chicken out"trey questioned looking at Devin,Saige stood right beside him.she was tense, nervous, and honestly a little pissed at trey." no. i'm not backing down.lets go" Devin said confidently.

 the groups split in three, Frankie going in treys car, CJ and Alex riding on the boys scooter and Cece and Devin riding with Saige. it was pretty quiet the whole ride, Devin observed everything in the girls car, the smiskis that she had hiding on her dash and her sonnys angels that sat in the cup holders that were lined with crochet flowers that Frankie had made for the girl, in trades for a  custom bracelet. Saiges car was like a look into her mind.every little thing she liked was in there.

as saige was following behind Trey's car,she lost him for a moment. but living in Gravesend her entire life she knew her way around, so when she was taking a turn down the long road the only thing lighting her way was her shitty headlights. it could've been that she was spooked by the whole haunted story talk but she could feel something off, the air was tight and warm, it made her hair stand up."are you okay?"devin asked, and saige snapped out of her intense stare into the road"yeah, sorry  just...focused."she said fixing her harsh, tense features and shifting her hands on the wheel.

"so, saige. i saw on Insta you're selling  your homemade jewelry. that's so cool" cece leaned forwards between the two front seats."yeah,its just a hobby really but ya'know the shop only pays so much."saige said making a slight look into the rear-view mirror at cece.cece watched devin look at saige with his lips slightly parted and his eyes practically glowing at her."don't you think that's cool devin?"cece cleared her throat , trying to push devin to say something 

"Yeah,it's really cool... i think its cool...bussin"he hummed the last of his sentence  and siage smiled at his nervous and awkward demeanor"thanks dev"she said in a settled tone.devins stomach fluttered in nervous turn. both cause of the way that she said his name and also because they had just arrived at the gate.

 saige shut her car down  and stuffed her keys in her jeans. everyone got out of the car and stood for a moment. saige felt a chill up her arm, she shuttered staring at the locked gate, trey landed next to her with bolt cutters in hand, she raised her eyebrows at she reached forwards to  the gate "are you an idiot?"she asked  and trey scoffed" you have a better idea?" he asked, "yes. well just pick the lock" she said  pulling a pin off of her key-chain and holding it up in a bragging way to trey."that way we don't damage property"

 saige kneeled down to get a better angle on the lock while trey and devin stood by each of her shoulders"you just have a pair of bolt cutters in your trunk?"Devin questioned , trey squinted his eyes" who doesn't?" he responded. saige jiggled the pin around and finally she clicked the last pin in and the lock popped. devin looked at her"so. how do you know how to pick locks?"devin asked as she undid the chain around the gate. " uh, well when you're car hates you. and you have to break into your car at least twice a day  you learn to pick a lock or two." she tucked her pin back in her pocket and looked up at devin, who shrugged with a quiet "hm"

saige pushed the gates open taking a few  steps forwards,getting that same constricting feeling around her head as she did on the drive here.everyone began the walk down the creepy area.she was paying so much attention to the environment that saige almost didn't realize who or what brushed her hand until she looked up.devin smiled at saige,saige moved her hand softly against his as they walked,making it seem like it was happening totally on accident, but she knew  full well what she was doing.i mean saige was still nervous as hell but still...she had her moments.

"so, what the real deal with this place?"Alex asked"well the legend is that the military did creepy medical experiments here."trey stated"what with all the lights?"CJ asked"they uh, they put in all the security after what happened. make sure no other kids die" trey said and Cece tilted her head slightly"and how do you know all that?"Cece asked 

"there's this 20/20 episode on YouTube from the 90's that tells about it" he confirmed and saige squinted her eyes" you watch 20/20?" she questioned and trey nodded" only that episode really. they interviewed my dad. pretty cool actually" he spun around facing the girl quickly as they met the end of the long hall like structure a bigger gate covered the entrance. saige  picked the lock, she noticed there was a bit of a tug on it. like it was harder to move, a magnet of some sort pulling on it. it left a weird feeling on her hands,a buzz in her nerves.

"you alright?" Devin asked as she stood back up, she took a deep breath in and nodded" yeah, yeah, just a tough lock." she said and he kept his eyes on her.  she was uneasy, her hands clammy and stomach churning." the room where it all happened"trey said and saige gulped"at the end of the tunnel" she said as she pulled open the gate staring down the dark tunnel.

" its not too late to back out" trey said as he held a flashlight out to the dirty blonde haired boy saige watched Devin's eyes go over treys shoulder straight at her and then back at trey. Devin took the flashlight tightly in his hand ripping it from the older boys grasp " ok" trey walked away with his eyebrows raised

 saige walked up to Devin with folded arms " you don't have to do this" she said with her eyebrows curved down and pressed lips " I'm not scared..." he cleared his throat "I didn't say that you were scared. if i'm being honest Devin, I'm scared. that place doesn't have good energy" she hummed " I agree with saige. this is stupid" Cece said walking up to the two" look, its a tunnel. I'm gonna walk in take a few pictures and walk out." he shrugged

saige rolled her eyes"and when a ghost gets your ass?"she questioned " there are no ghosts..."Devin said with a small smirked smile.saige suppressed her smile,and rolled her eyes  her stomach bursting into a small cup of butterflies" I don't approve of this but just... be  safe" Cece  said and Devin nodded as she walked away.

"this is stupid.more importantly you are stupid... so be safe and don't do anything  dumb in there."saige pointed a firm finger into his shoulder ,raising her eyebrows and slightly smiling,  she couldn't help to keep it down,she din't know if it was the nerves or I it was Devin but her cheeks had began to hurt from how much she had smiled in the past few hours

" i'll be fine. I have my good luck charm." Devin tugged on the clip with a smile.

she shook her head " I'm serious,don't die" she said and stepped back from him.

as Devin entered the tunnel saige stomach dropped from its fluttery state. god this was bad. everything felt horrible.  she paced  as everyone around was pretty quiet just waiting for the boy to come back out. saige put her hands to her lips nervously " this is the dumbest thing I think he's ever done" Cece hummed  saige tilted her head" yeah, close second is when he swore he could fly and broke his wrist." saige said with a small laugh and Cece look at the girl rolling her eyes a bit with a scoffed laugh " he's such an idiot"Cece sighed

"agreed" saige nodded. it was quiet for a few seconds, too quiet. saiges body was practically left without a soul when she saw a big flash  a few feet away. she ran over to see an incriminating scene of trey and his bolt cutters in hand.

 " what the fuck is wrong with you!" she shouted as she watched the transformer blow in the distance . trey laughed as all the lights went clean off. the bright place becoming dark, and therefore even more eerie. " I was just fucking with him, saige calm down."he said and saiges eyebrows raised " you're such an asshole. this isn't funny." saige scoffed and trey rolled his eyes.

Frankie walked up to the two and began to lecture trey when sage tried to flip the breaker. it was old and trey busted it, and without a flashlight she could barely see what she was doing. she hopped down and walked over to cece " so much for not destroying property." saige hummed as the two stared down the barbell of the tunnel.

" I don't have a good feeling about this." the blonde girl hummed and saiges turned her head to her "Devin!" Cece screamed. saiges throat went dry when there wasn't a response. she took a deep breath in " stay here. i'm going in"saige  took a stride forwards "saige-" cece said before huffing and following the girl.

 saige and Cece  walked fast but careful through the empty tunnel. the two girls topped in their tracks when they saw Devin lying on the floor." oh my God" saige said as she helped Cece get Devin up off the floor. his eyes were flooded with back goo. Devin blinked his eyes open weakly" hey, hey. you okay?" saige asked  as they reached the rest of the group. even though he could stand by himself saige kept an arm around him. Devin groaned"i'm fine" he said   and saige pulled his face  up carefully with her fingers " you don't look fine" she hummed swiping her thumb over his cheek and smearing the black goo"I just fell."he hummed in embarrassment 

"you don't just fall for no reason, dev. and this isn't normal..." she held her  thumb In front of his eyes. he squinted " its like oil..." he hummed 

" coming out of your eyes? come on." she said  pulling him in Cece grabbed his other side  helping him.

saige was gonna rush the boy to the hospital, but he refused. saige dropped Cece and Devin off at home, after Cece ensured the girl she would keep a close eye on him. saige woke up the next morning  and the first thing she did was get ready and walk down the block to the brewers. knocking on the door.

 Cece opened the door and stepped aside letting her in." hey." she sighed " hey" Cece said shutting the door.  Devin turned his head and looked at saige with a small smile "hey, saige what're you doing here?"he asked  and saige  tilted her head " dude..."

"he doesn't remember much still"Cece said and saige frowned. " no, I remember... I remember the tunnel and going in... and then that's it." Devin said with a sigh.  the two girls stared at him with similar if not the same look plastered to their faces " what're you two looking at me like that?" he questioned 

" because it was scary Devin." saige said " like really scary."Cece nodded

 Devin's mouth opened and shut"i'm -I'm sorry?" he said, he didn't really know what else to say. " are you?"Cece shouted and saige took a step back. She was friends with the two for years so she had seen her fair share of sibling fights"cause I'm sick of you doing stuff like this.what are you trying to prove?"the girl said in a sharp tone. Devin threw his hands up and let them flop back down"I just said that i'm sorry!"he shouted, sitting  forwards in his chair"like,what... i'm sorry that we are not all straight A- debate students bound for brown with our whole lives figured out." Devin stabbed and although saige was awkwardly pacing around staring at various things around the room as if any of it was interesting her she heard that and it stung.

 she obviously had hobbies but she was never the greatest at school. she didn't have much of a plan after high school. and it scared the shit out of her.

" oh, hi, saige" Anthony said as he trotted down stairs " hey,Mr.brewer"she smiled "hey! so the home called, grandma had a pretty rough night.so I gotta go, actually. you guys should come with" Anthony got his kids attention."oo, no can do. first day of debate camp is today. so that is on you"Cece said before walking past Devin and to the door" oh my God have fun"saige waved "thanks bye" Cece waved 

 Devin sat with his lips parted open and in disbelief. when saige  plopped on the couch  facing him "sorry you had to see that" Devin sighed and saige shrugged" you guys have had worse fights In front of me."she said with a small smile.

Devin breathed out a small laugh"yeah." he sighed"why did you come over here anyways?" Devin asked and saige furrowed her brows " wow...wasn't aware my presence wasn't welcome" saige said and Devin blinked a few times his heart racing" i- didn't th-" he started and saige laughed " i'm messing with you" she said and Devin laughed " right, I knew that."he said and saige shook her head " no you didn't" she said" no, I didn't" he agreed.

 it felt like old times, the way saiges heart was beating just faster than normal and she smiled at everything he said.the way that Devin's palms drew clammy and his pupils grew wide every time she looked his way.

" well, to answer your question I came over to check on you." she said and Devin's eyes grew wide" you did?" he asked and suddenly saige heart raced, she nodded" yeah." she gulped and Devin nodded a growing smile on his lips " cool, cool.b-" he hummed and saige held her finger up to him and turned her head to opposing way "don't say bussin" she shook her head with a small smile.

after  Anthony and Devin left saige went home.

after the previous night she couldn't help but still feel a buzz on her hands.something was wrong, maybe it was from the fuse box. or maybe her various tedious projects had finally caught up to her hands. but it felt like  more than that,it was more than that. saige sat at her desk with her big magnifying glass and overhead light shining onto her hands as she mended two pieces of metal together.

this was normally the time she was most focused, but she couldn't help but feel something behind her. she tried to shake the feeling , just say it was in her head.

 the leaves creeped over her window, vines wrapping upwards around the gutter that sat right next to it. she put the soldering iron down carefully and whipped her head around. she squinted at the window, feeling as though something was there but it was clear...

 she sighed and turned back to her project."I am seriously losing my mind" she muttered to herself.
