Wishful Thinking

every football season

Lucy finds a reason

to see that Charlie takes a fall

each time he tries to kick the ball

no matter what he tries he's stumped

she moves the ball, he winds up dumped

she says she won't and holds it straight

he runs and kicks but it's too late

another miss another fly

ends up staring at the sky

why can't he benefit from lessons learned

instead of winding up getting burned

He knows there has to be a way

to figure out a clever play

to outsmart Lucy's mischievous trick

and let him finally get a kick

"Okay, Charlie. Ready when you are."
