Situation Challenge February 2018
A poem about a beach ball you found on the beach- origin/appearance/reason
Walking on the beach
One drab and sunless day
I spied an object in the sand
Not too far away
A ball constructed of light plastic
With colours blue and green
Just a forlorn and lonely object
Awaiting to be seen
I picked it up and looked around
Nothing much to see
Just a lot of beach and a couple of trees,
The water, sky and me
How is it this was left behind
It must have been in play
Was there a weeping child somewhere
Or someone else who didn't care
I considered what to do with it
Bounced it in my hand
Nothing positive came to mind
So I dropped it in the sand
It wasn't mine, I turned to go
Arrested by a thought
What if it's not what it appeared to be
Indeed, what if it was not
I decided to have another look
Of curiosity I had no lack
And as I peered, my senses froze
The ball was looking back
