I'm mad about the live action Mulan movie. My favorite character in the movie was Mushu, but nope, they took him out and replaced him with a phoenix. My other favorite part was the song I'll Make a Man out of You, but nope, that got removed too. I mean, who would they have to sing it? They took Shang out too.
They didn't just take out Mushu and Shang, 2 characters essential to the plot, and I'll Make a Man out of You, the song that marks the turning point of the plot, out of the live action remake. They took out all the other songs too and replaced them with instrumentals! We're you looking forward forward to hearing a live-action version of Reflection? Haha, too bad!
The movie was drastically changed to match the real story of Mulan (because now all of a sudden Disney cares about historical accuracy). I usually complain about how the live action remakes hardly change anything from the original film, so it seems hypocritical of me to be bashing this one. However, this one is so drastically different from the original that I don't think it should be considered a "remake". Heck, the original movie is rated G (safe for all audiences) and the remake is PG-13 (safe for teens and up)!
It stinks that it still will do good in the box office, but that's always the case with these live action remakes. No matter how terrible the remakes are, they'll still make tons of money because it's Disney and it's nostalgia bait. I guess that's an argument for another time. (Fun fact: my final speech for my speech class was why Disney's animated movies are better than their live action remakes.)
