Prologue ||

The Potters ran one after the other towards the platform 9 and 10, the barrier disappeared and they arrived in platform 9 3/4.

The place was packed up with students from all ages, as they bid goodbye to their families. Owls were flying all over the place, hooting as they went.

"Well, mum, your moment has come at last," Jenna started jokingly, "this is where you finally get rid of us."

But the words had barely left her mouth that Mrs. Potter bent down and brought Jenna in a bone-crushing hug before starting to sob, causing Jenna's hair to go pink from embarrassment.

James, finding his sister's state amusing, broke down into a laughter. But it didn't last too long because Mr. Potter quickly said,

"You think that's funny, do you? Then you'll find this hilarious!" He then went forward and hugged James so hard that it got hard for the boy to breathe as he tried to break free.

When the twins were finally free from their parents' grasps – and Jenna's hair turned back to blue – they said their last goodbyes and went on the Hogwarts express.

"You go and find us a compartment, will you?" said James as they walked through the train. "I'll go and find Sirius."

"Who?" Jennas asked, raising a brow.

"You know, the boy I told you about? The one I met in Madam Malkin's Robes shop in Diagon Alley?"

"Oh, yeah." She nodded. "The one that you said set the needles to fly around the shop and attack costumers?"

"Yeah," James sniggered, remembering the scene. "He was pretty cool. I'm sure you'll like him."

"Alright, then," said Jenna. "I'll go find us a compartment."

And off she went. But even though they were pretty early, everywhere seemed to be either full, or held by an older student who were probably waiting for their friends.

But at last she came upon a compartment with only a girl in it around her age. With her red hair covering her face, the girl was seated over the window, leaning her head against it.

Slowly, Jenna pulled the compartment's door open, looking inside at the girl. But when the girl's head turned around, Jenna saw that she had been crying.

"Hi," said Jenna gently. "Do you mind if my brother and I joined you? He's bringing a friend too, so it might get a little crowded, so if you're waiting for someone I can leave–"

"–No, it's alright." The girl cut her off and smiled kindly.

"Great." Jenna sat down. "I'm Jenna, by the way."

"I'm Lily Evans," said the red-haired girl.

But before Jenna could get the chance to continue the conversation, the girl turned her head back to look out of the window again, obviously wanting to be left alone.

Just then, Jenna saw two figures run past their compartment, and she quickly recognized one of them as her brother.

So jumping to her feet, she opened the compartment's door and shouted after the two boys, "Oi! J.P! Over here!"

The boys stopped immediately, turning around. "Oh, there you are." said James, walking forward with his new friend.

The two of them then came inside, joining Jenna and Lily, but neither of them glanced at the red-haired girl who was again lost in her own little world behind the window.

"Jenna," James gestured to his friend, "this is –"

"–Sirius Black." The boy cut him off with a wink. "At your service."

The boy had piercing gray eyes with hair a little longer than what boys usual had and he was rather dashing for his age.

James continued, "Sirius, this is my sister, Jenna."

"Hi." A grin appearing on Sirius's face, he took Jenna's hand which she had raised, but instead of shaking it, he planted a kiss on it.

"Hey!" James and Jenna yelled together, narrowing their eyes dangerously at him.

Although the incident was soon forgotten as they started talking about their stories of receiving their Hogwarts letter.

"Dad was so happy when the owl brought our letters," said James.

"Yeah!" Jenna nodded eagerly. "I mean, he knew we were gonna get it, but he almost set the couch on fire when it finally arrived."

Just then, the door to the compartment opened and in came a thin boy with dark and greasy hair. By one glance at Lily, he went forward and took the seat before her.

James and Sirius had gone back to talking, but Jenna was paying close attention to what the boy and girl were saying.

"I don't want to talk to you," Lily said in a constricted voice.

"Why not?" The boy asked.

"Tuney h-hates me. Because we saw the letter from Dumbledore."

"But we're going! This is it! We're off to Hogwarts!" The boy said and Lily nodded, mopping her eyes, and then half smiled. "You'd better be in Slytherin."

"Slytherin?" James, who hadn't paid the slightest interest in them until that point, repeated in disgust. "Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" He asked Jenna and she nodded.

But Sirius, who was sitting opposite James and next to Jenna, did not smile. "My whole family have been in Slytherin," he said with a frown.

"Blimey," said James. "And I thought you seemed alright."

Sirius grinned. "Maybe I'll break the tradition. Where are you two heading, if you've had the choice?"

At that question, James and Jenna grinned and then without hesitation, they withdrew their imaginary swords and pointed them up, saying harmonically, "Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart!" They chuckled and James added, "Just like our dad."

The thin boy snorted at that and James turned on him. "Got a problem with that?"

"No," said the boy, though his slight sneer said otherwise. "If you'd rather be brawny than brainy–"

"Where're you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?" interjected Sirius.

James roared with laughter. Lily then stood up angrily, and walked towards the compartment's door. "C'mon, Severus. Let's find another compartment."

"Ooooh..." James and Sirius imitated her lofty voice and James tried to trip Severus as he passed.

"See ya, Snivellus!" Sirius called behind them as the compartment door slammed shut.

"Ooh, she was fiery." James grinned, watching them walk away. But when he glanced back at Jenna and saw her frowning, he said, "What?"

     "That was mean." She said.

"Oh, c'mon J.P," he groaned. "We were just having a little fun."

The atmosphere in the compartment was tense for a little while, but when the train finally got going and the station disappeared from behind the window, the fun began.

***

Soon, as night had fallen upon the sky, they all left the compartment to change into their Hogwarts robes. When the train had stopped and they had gotten out of it along with others, the first thing they saw was a giant man shouting above the crowd of students, "Firs' years! Firs' years this way!"

He then led them on a separate way from the older students, towards the lake and instructed them to share a boat with four people in it.

Jenna, James, and Sirius raced towards the first one, wanting to get to Hogwarts faster that anyone else.

Another boy came forward and tried to get into the boat. He had light brown hair and kind eyes, but underneath them there were dark circles.

He looked tired and worn-out as he tried to get into the boat, but he seemed too weak that he almost tripped. James and Sirius were fighting over who was going to get the better seat, but thankfully Jenna was there to abruptly get a hold on the boy's robes, stopping him from falling into the lake.

"Thanks," the boy said, panting as he took the seat next to Jenna.

"Anytime." Jenna smiled, raising her hand for him to shake. "I'm Jenna."

"I'm Remus. Remus Lupin." said the boy, fishing into his pocket and taking something out of it. "Chocolate?"

He offered to Jenna as a thank you for saving him from falling, but she refused politely, saying she'd had enough sweets on the train.

The giant man, whose name they later learnt that was Hagrid, took a whole boat to himself and when he was sure everyone was seated, he motioned his arm and all boats magically started to move through the lake.

"Yeh'll get yer firs' look at Hogwarts any moment now!" He called in the lead, and sure enough, in a few moments, they saw it.

It was a castle bigger than what one could fit into their imagination and so they all stared up at it in awe, not wanting to ever look away.

When they finally hit the shore and got out of their boats, they all followed Hagrid inside until they stopped at the entrance of a huge hall inside a chamber, where a witch came forward.

She was tall, thin, and stern, and had her hair up in a tight bun. She was not a Professor you could cross, thought Jenna, but surely the most fun if you did so.

Jenna really couldn't get herself to listen to Professor McGonagall's explanation about the houses, seeing as she was busy looking around at the enormous hall.

But the amazement was nothing compared to when the doors of the Great Hall opened at the first-years followed Professor McGonagall inside.

Floating candles were all over the place and the ceiling looked like the night's sky. Four long tables were set, filled with eager students, looking forward to the feast.

When they reached the end of the hall, Professor McGonagall pointed at a stool with an old-looking hat on it and said, "When I call your name, come forward and sit here so the hat can sort you into your houses."

She then took out a large list and started reading the names. "Abbott, Henry." A boy with blond hair walked forward and when he sat, Professor McGonagall placed the hat on his head.

There was long seconds of silence before the hat shouted out, "HUFFLEPUFF!" and the hall applauded as the boy went to sit by the Hufflepuff's table.

"Black, Sirius!" McGonagall called, and Jenna saw the confident boy's face go pale as he made his way over the stool.

The hat took longer to sort him than the last boy, but at last it shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!" Everyone clapped, but Sirius didn't seem too happy.

As he was making his way over, James raised his hand to high-five him, but Sirius ignored him and sat down in silence.

James sent a questioning glance at Jenna. "What's his problem?"

Jenna only shrugged, not caring so much about the boy, and she eagerly went back to watching the sorting ceremony.

A girl and a boy were sorted into Slytherin and one into Ravenclaw, another boy was sorted into Hufflepuff. Lily Evans, Remus Lupin and a blonde girl named Marlene Mckinnon got into Gryffindor as well, and before they knew it, Professor McGonagall called out, "Potter, James!"

His usual arrogant grin didn't leave James's face as he turned to his sister and muttered, "Wanna see which one of us gets sorted into Gryffindor quicker?" and then without waiting for Jenna's reply, he made his way forward and sat on the stool, secretly nervous.

But the hat had barely touched his head that it shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"

You couldn't have wiped the grin off James Potter's face now even if you beat him with a bludger, as he winked at Jenna and walked proudly towards the clapping Gryffindors.

     "Potter, Jenna!" Professor McGonagall called.

All thoughts attacking her at once, Jenna hesitantly walked towards the stool and sat down. She got even more nervous when she caught all eyes staring at her.

She froze on her spot when Professor McGonagall placed the hat on her head.

"Another Potter, eh?" A voice said in her head. "Just as eager to get into Gryffindor as your brother, I see. But I have to say, you have the perfect mind and wit for Ravenclaw. But I see bravery in you, too, as well as boldness. Yes. But where to put you? Hmm... Better be...

     GRYFFINDOR!"
