Hunt
A/N
I've exhausted all my meme-making potential for the day, so I'm going to update this story. I'm only three chapters in and I'm already super excited to get going. I've adjusted some of the powers, but nothing else has changed from the original idea.
If you were to ask Nick what his favorite thing about his work was, it would be what his two friends brought to the table everyday.
In reality, he didn't particularly enjoy his work, but it was sufficient enough. He didn't know what he was going to do with his life, so maybe working for a few years would help him out? Maybe, but it was really Ashlie and Jon that motivated him to move on. The mundane life that he had, while not ideal, was something that he could say that he somewhat enjoyed. He knew almost everything that happened in it.
This, however, was not something he would have ever expected from it.
The muggy afternoon ended when Ashlie left in an attempt to get home before the attack got too serious. The other employees mostly joined her, hoping that the attack wouldn't reach their side of the city. Either they were incredibly lucky or had great foresight, because currently, he was holed up under his desk. It was a normal thing people learned in elementary school: if you're caught in an attack, stay under a desk or evacuate if you can. Unfortunately, the latter wasn't an option, not when there was a literal super powered human destroying everything in its path.
He could only wish that it would be alright.

Ashlie flexed her fingers in anticipation. She still wasn't used to the speed it all happened, but she thoroughly enjoyed the adrenaline rush that came with Scorcher.
"You ready for this?" Uni sat next to her, putting the last minute adjustments to his attire. The long white ribbons on his back weren't floating yet. Ashlie didn't actually know how Uni lived his normal life, only that he was an artist. That was only the man behind the mask too, Sixth Sense was always a bit on the mysterious side. The people seemed to agree, but Ashlie never really asked any of her normal friends how they viewed him.
"I'm always ready for this," she grinned, blowing of a small wisp of flame. He smiled, tightly tying the orange blindfold around his eyes. "So any words on which of our villains it is?"
"I just got a message from Matt on that," Dawn, the third member of their team, informed them as he returned from the back area of the vehicle. He had changed into his costume, which he didn't power on yet. "He says that it's Fool's Gold. And here," he threw the two of them their ear pieces. Matt, their informant from Phoenix Industry, could communicate with the three of them with it, whether it be to call in their healer or to let them know a villain's location. Fool's Gold, on the other hand, was one of their main villains that the Industry had assigned to them. Not much is known about the villain, but they were able to figure out that it was a man that was behind that mask.
"Great, just great. We're almost at the Western Block anyways," Uni dryly commented. That was only a block away from her workplace. Ashlie wondered if her co-workers, more specifically Nick, were already feeling the damage. No matter, they would stop the villain anyways. The vehicle came to a halting stop as soon as he said that.
"Ready?" The doors in the back opened.

Jax was still eager to kill it.
It was different than the other one. Honestly, he didn't even know why his host hadn't realized that the other one was a hero, it was so obvious, but this one had a different feel to it. It could touch him. It could touch his amulet. How?
He had put so many spells on it, so many curses on the damn thing. Jax had even put his own SOUL into it, so that even when he died, he could still reek havoc on the world. But all of his goals, shattered in an instance by some measly human.
Was it his blood? Jax knew that some humans had natural resistance to magic, but nowhere near the amount needed to completely withstand the amulet. It must be an artifact, but the human wasn't wearing anything that stood out as magical.
He didn't care. Jax wanted it dead and that was it. No matter how much his host resisted him, he would succeed. Even if he had to destroy the entire city.
It was so fun to watch the humans scatter, screaming for their lives as they ran away from him. The mask was limiting, but letting everyone know who his host was would only ruin the fun. His host had suppressed him for most of the day, but with the small window he had, Jax had to strike. He aimed his attack at a nearby vehicle, watching it split into a thousand pieces with just the wave of his hand.
Another hit a building, causing a huge hole to appear, people falling out or barely clinging on to remaining building. He needed to build some disposable obstacles fast and his magic would run out soon if he wasted it levitating off the ground.
But of course, his fun couldn't last for long. He needed to find that pest and he needed to exterminate it before it learned of its power. It must be around here.
He snapped his fingers, the remenants of city block coming together, forcing the molecules to bond into a new structure. Giant spikes pierced through the ground, organized in a manner that would make it impossible for anyone to get through by foot. They were tightly knit; keeping out any unskilled fliers. Most of the people had run to avoid the danger, giving him enough space to construct them. That should keep any unexpected visitors out.
He looked towards the amulet as it glowed a soft violet.
"Now, you're going to tell me exactly where I need to go,"
—————————————————————————————————————————————————
Nick had kept quiet when the giant spikes had materialized right outside the building. He had even managed to swallow the shock that came when nearly all of his coworkers scrambled to evacuate.
He knew only one villain that could rearrange molecules and build structures from thin air and he knew that it wasn't ever safe to come out when he was on a rampage. Civilian casualties were usually large and the app on his phone had established the high threat level of the situation.
It was safer for him to stay inside and towards the middle of the building.

His host had been extremely helpful.
Memories were easy enough to access while he was in the amulet, but with his host's completely unwilling cooperation, it was even easier. With a quick scan, he knew immediately where he would find it. He knew its mannerisms and habits, everything his host knew was now his. The building was vaguely familiar, but he shrugged it off. He could sense the humans.
It was almost certainly inside; he just needed to weed it out. It would want to avoid as much attention as it could.
A hole was burned through the structure with another wave of his hand, followed by a second on a third. The remaining civilians on the inside were panicking; he could hear the screaming. A few people on the ground floor lobby had sprinted out and he could sense only two remaining life forms in it.
It was only a matter of time before it came out.
A/N
A bit on the longer side, but this took more time than I thought it would. Next chapter picks up on Ashlie's side of the story, but I might switch it between the three team members.
