Realization

A/N

I'm really, REALLY sorry that this didn't come out earlier. It took me two weeks to even think of how I wanted this to start exactly.

Nick was still in shock, leaning over the railing of the building's rooftop to catch what had just happened. It wasn't every day had a hero saved you singularly, and although that problem meant something terrible was going to happen, he still couldn't help being dazed. He had never considered something like this would happen before.

Before he can say or do anything else, however, the piece of the railing his right hand was on suddenly disappeared. Within a blink of an eye, it was no longer there.

The right side of his body lost balance, his arm dragging him downwards into the hole in the building. He quickly grabbed another part of the wall before regaining balance. Nick backed away from the railing, and rather quickly too, because a soon as he rushed away from it, the floor he was standing on previously disappeared, leaving a perfectly spherical hole in the building rooftop. Why was Fool's Gold so adamant in attacking him?

The ground continued to disappear as he ran father and father away from that end of the building, only for him to have is back against the other side. He looked around, noticing the roof exit nearby. If he could just make it there, he would have a lot more to work with. Now the only problem was the giant whole in front of it, making it impossible for him to walk there; he would need a running start.

Nick took off without much thought, running towards the exit. When he was about to reach the door, however, a spike blocked his exit. It was similar to ones that littered the streets, although smaller in size. He was trapped, his only escape was to the jump off the roof to his death. The other buildings were too far away from him to jump and any other solution wasn't possible for someone like him.

"WATCH OUT!" He realized he was standing perfectly still, the yell snapping him out of his thoughts before he jumped to the left. Right on queue, a spike erupted from where he was standing previously, a trail of smaller ones staring from behind him.

-------------------------------------------------

Uni wasn't sure how he and Dawn managed to find an alternate route through the city (and he refused to say that the alternate route required going through the sewers and climbing a couple of stairs) but he was sure that something weird was going on.

He can't see much with his blind fold on, but being able to literally see with your mind really did help. If he could read and draw with his mental sight, that would be great, but his actual eyesight terrible.

There was a singular civilian on the roof of the building, next to the one he and Dawn were standing on, the floor having multiple holes and a few spikes. The two were there scouting out for Ashlie when he noticed him. He wasn't sure why this particular civilian was being harassed, but he ran out of the way when Uni yelled at him.

"We need to help him. I'm not sure how, though," his partner commented. "Actually, do you think you can lift him over here?" Uni's telekinesis worked on people and animals, but rescuing people was usually what Ashlie did with her flight.

"I might be able to, the distance looks short enough," he said before rising his voice. "HEY!" The civilian's attention turn towards the duo, taking almost immediate notice of who they were.

"Stay right where you-!" Dawn's speech was cut off when something flew towards them, pushing him to the ground and knocking the breath out of his chest. His armor made an uncomfortable crashing noise as it hit the roof top. In the corner of his eye, he could see Fool's Gold preparing another attack on them as Ashlie was trying to set him on fire. The two were flying nearby, Ashlie's fire breath burning the tips of his clothing.

"Aw shit, it's him. Distract him with her while I save the civilian," Uni commanded. Dawn nodded before getting up and running towards the edge of the roof. His electricity sparked between his fingers as he launched a beam at the villain, purposely going a little off to instead stall him so Ashlie could catch up.

Uni turned his attention back towards the civilian before putting his full concentration back onto him. He took a deep breath, his hands glowing a soft orange. The sounds of crackling flames and the low hum of Dawn's armor keeping his powers in check increased in volume while the breeze of wind started to feel like a strong gust. He didn't know where it was, but a slight scent of flowers as well as the burning clothes of Fool's Gold was burned into his head. He couldn't see anything - his mental sight was completely blocked out - but by the time his sight returned, the civilian was already standing in front of him, shock written all over his face. The sounds died down and wind returned a breeze. He couldn't smell anything anymore.

"Both of you! Duck!" Dawn's call grabbed his attention. Uni quickly pivoted towards him. A sharp object, similar to the giant spikes, flew at them from Fool's Gold's direction. He quickly tackled the civilian, narrowly avoiding the attack. However, when the object landed and stuck in the ground, it was directly behind where the civilian stood before. The two of them got up before the hero pushed the civilian behind him. It was almost like.... Uni turned on his ear piece.

"Uh, Matt? We've got a problem here,"
