3: Under Attack
Margaret Proctor has just made history by being the first witch to make an alliance with not only wolves but with vampires as well. She knew that she had to go through the Council first but she always said that it was better to ask forgiveness, not permission. And it wasn't like she was forming an alliance with the Volturi.
"Why would witches want to form an alliance with vampires and wolves?" Alice asked.
"Same reason why your family has a treaty with the Quileuttes. To maintain the peace." Margaret said. "Witches have been hunted by humans and vampires alike, mostly in part of the Volturi. And we all want to coexist in the world with humans without drawing too much attention to ourselves."
Margaret had always dreamed of a world were they no longer had to live in the shadows in fear. She had lived in the shadows for most of her childhood while living in the shadows was all her children knew. Margaret was tired of running and hiding. She wanted to give the young witches in the coven a chance at a normal life.
Just as Margaret was about to talk once again, the front door burst open and two young men rushed through the door. Margaret was glad to see her sons but her demeanor changed when she saw that her youngest son's leg was bleeding and had an arrow going through it. "What happened?" She questioned as she watched the boys make their way passed her and into the dining room.
"We were checking the perimeter and putting up some more protective charms up when..." the blonde boy said as he leaned the brunette boy against the table.
"When I was shot by an arrow!" The brunette boy groaned out in pain. Evelyn moved over to her brothers, "Alex, help James up onto the table." She said taking a step back watching as Alex helped their brother to lay onto the the table.
Margaret turned her attention to the others of the coven, "Girls, I want you to search the perimeter and reinforce the protective barrier. The Cullen's and the pack can help as well while we tend to James."
With that, the girls made their way out of the house one by one with the Cullen's and the pack following close behind. Seylah, Paul and Carlisle stayed behind.
Once on the table, Evelyn looked at her brother's leg. Seeing a hand move to the arrow, she didn't waste any time to grab the wrist, stopping them. "Don't touch it." She said looking at Alex.
"Why not?" Alex huffed as he pulled his wrist free.
Evelyn didn't take her eyes off the arrow, "The whole thing could be laced with some type of poison. A poison that could kill whoever touches it."
Evelyn had been so focused on her brother, she didn't notice Carlisle was now beside her. She watched as Carlisle examined James's leg carefully. "Let's hope that it didn't hit any critical veins." Evelyn spoke before feeling faint.
A set of arms caught Evelyn before she collapsed, "Her leg is bleeding? Why is it bleeding?" The voice asked which Evelyn worked out belonged to Paul.
"Evelyn and James are twins, they can feel each other's pain. Whatever happens to one happens to the other." Margaret spoke.
Evelyn groaned softly as she stood upright and leaned against the table. Raising her hand, she looked at James, "I'm sorry for this." And as soon as the words left her lips, she flicked her wrist and watched as the arrow shot out of James's leg.
James screamed out in pain as Evelyn used telekinesis to remove the arrow from his leg. "S-Son of a bitch!" James groaned out.
As soon as the arrow was out of James' leg, Carlisle applied pressure to the wound. "Is there anything I could use to stitch up his leg?"
Evelyn nodded as she moved away from the table and into the kitchen. After a few minutes, she emerged with a jar in one hand and rags in another. "A poultice for the inflammation and aching." she said as she set the jar on the table beside James' leg as she handed Carlisle one the rags while setting the others down next to the jar.
Opening the jar which let out a strong smell causing everyone to let out soft groans. Evelyn scooped some of the poultice in her hand before spreading the green paste onto both sides of the wound.
"Leave that for about ten minutes and check to see if the swelling went down and if it did, you can sew him up." Taking one the cloths that laid beside the jar, Evelyn gently folded it in half before wrapping it around the underside of his leg before doing the same with the other rag and placing it on top of his leg.
All of a sudden, the door burst open. "Coast is clear. All we could find was some bear traps, best guest is a hunter got a little close to the property line." Alex informed as he walked inside. "Grams and the girls are reinforcing the barrier just in case. The wolves and the Cullens should be here any second."
Twenty minutes later, all of the Cullens went home. Carlisle stayed behind to keep an eye on James. The pack found their way outside, the witches didn't know why they were still hanging around the house.
"You tended to James' wound quite well for someone your age." Carlisle voiced, not taking his eyes off the wound on top of James' leg as he stitched it up.
"Thank you. Growing up the way we did, always hiding and running, my mother was afraid that running to the ER every time something went wrong would lead us to getting caught..." Evelyn started as she watched as Carlisle stitched up her brothers leg. "...it was easier for us to use nature to help us try and cure any ailment that came our way. That and I may have stolen medical journals and books from the library."
"I can imagine what you and the rest of the coven have learned from your seclusion." Carlisle spoke softly. "How's your leg?"
"It's fine. I am use to it. We both are." Evelyn said. "As twins, James and I have a connection and that connection is amplified due to us being witches."
~~~~~~
Carlisle walked out of the house, a few paces in front of Evelyn and Margaret, "I will stop by in the morning to check on James."
Margaret nodded, "We'll be expecting you." she said as she watched the vampire walk to his car. "Not so fast." she told Evelyn when she noticed that her daughter had turned too go back inside.
"What?" Evelyn asked looking at her mother.
"There's just one thing that has to be done." Margaret told her as she raised her hand and signaled towards the wolves. Sam and Paul made their way over to the porch.
"What's going on?" Evelyn questioned turning to look at her mother. She knew that her mother was up to something but she didn't know what it was.
Placing a hand on Evelyn's back, "It has come to my attention that Paul has imprinted on you." Margaret leaned down slightly to look at her daughter. She knew that the news of being Paul's imprint, a person which she only met a few days ago.
"That day that Seylah and I went to La Push." Evelyn voiced loud enough for just her mother and the two wolves in front of them to hear. Being Paul's imprint would be the reason why he stayed behind when the others went to check the perimeter.
Margaret knew that she didn't have to try so hard to keep Evelyn safe or worry so much. Paul would be there to protect Evelyn no matter what. They were made for each other. "You can go with them. Get to know Paul."
Evelyn looked at her mother, it was a rare occurrence that her mother let anyone leave unless they were with a fellow witch but her mother knew that she was in safe hands with the wolves. "Really?" She reassured wanting to make sure she heard her mother correctly.
With a simple nod, Margaret smiled at Evelyn. "If you are going to be late or spend the night, call first."
Margaret turned and started to walk back into the house, when she reached the door, she stopped and turned slightly and glanced at Paul, "Imprint or not, you hurt her in anyway, you'll live to regret it." Margaret said with a faint smile before disappearing into the house.
Evelyn blushed in embarrassment before turning to look at Sam and Paul. She could tell by the look on Paul's face that he was scared, "She's not joking. Wish she was."
Sam couldn't help but chuckle when he heard Paul's thoughts, "I'll let you two talk." He said looking between Paul and Evelyn before walking away from the house.
Evelyn watched as Sam walked away from them and the house before turning her attention back to Paul, "Care to tell me what it means to be an imprint?" Evelyn smiled as she walked down the steps.
Took me longer than I wanted to write this chapter but August has been a busy month for me. I had plans for this chapter but I got carried away with wanting to finish it that the plan went out the window. Which is why this chapter ended up being shorter. I wanted to create some drama and establish some relationships between the witches, the pack and the Cullens. Tell me what you think.
